Yeah probably but in MY MLB world the giants and sox gm's decided it was good for them. Anyway what you constitute as fun may be different to mine. It's not like I have constructed a super team. My Indians still suck big time. Have two good pitchers and not a lot of bats. They are now ranked 27th and record is 5-11. Just a starting block for a long road of hopes and dreams.

As the Braves, I am looking to upgrade my CF situation. I think my target will be Franklin Gutierrez of Seattle. He in 28 now, and Seattle is years away from contending, so where they stand, Seattle would be looking for young/cheap guys in return. In your mind, what do you think would be a FAIR/REALISTIC offer for Gutierrez? Tehran and Freddie Freeman are off-limits, and Schafer would probably be part of the deal to play CF for Sea (younger/cheaper than McLouth).

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

In my Yankees franchise (holding me over until the OSFM release), I'm considering trying to upgrade the back end of the rotation. Ivan Nova seems to have a strangle-hold on the #4 spot. I have three options:

          1) "Convert" Joba to a SP (increase stamina, decrease velocity, K/9) and "stretch him out" over the course of ST and have him try to earn the #5 spot.

          2) Trade Joba, Sergio Mitre (maybe) and Austine Romine (B-Pot Catcher) to the Twins for Scott Baker or Kevin Slowey. I could also acquire Joe Blanton from the Phillies with this package, or Barry Zito from the Giants.

I have considered trying to make a deal for a significantly better starter, like Cole Hamels, Francisco Liriano, Wandy Rodriguez, or Ricky Nolasco, but I don't think I want to make that kind of blockbuster trade before the season even starts... or give up the prospects I would need to in order to make that happen...

          3) Go with CC-Hughes-AJ-Nova as my 1-4, and have Brackman (who I pitch very well with) battle with Freddy Garcia for the #5 spot rather than make a trade.

          Thoughts?

I would fire up a few exhibition games and pitch with Baker, Slowey, Blanton, and Zito to see which ones, if any, you pitch well with. In MVP 05, Zito was the man earning 3 straight Cy Young awards. I have no idea how well he pitches on this game, which is why I would suggest trying them all. Last year, I picked up Bonderman in August from FA for next to nothing due to an injury in my rotation and he ended the season with the best month and a half of any of my pitchers. In the meantime, I had to nontender Trevor Cahill because I couldn't get his career ERA under 5. Ratings aren't always everything.

Was thinking of acquiring Adrian Gonzalez in my fantasy franchise..I'd have to give up Morales, Pineda (A pot SP), chih kuo,...Is that too much or should I wait for Kendry Morales to blossom??

That's a really interesting idea! I'll consider it, however, I almost prefer the unpredictability of trading for someone based on their stats/ratings/experience/history and not being certain how well they will play for my team (aka, how well I'll play with them). I'm a stickler for realism (in a fantasy vacuum), so it adds to the "worry" of trading a known commodity for the unknown. Again, thanks for the advice!

If you had to pick one of the 4 to trade for (just for arguments sake), given that package, would you have a preference? Or would you choose one of the other options?

I'm doing a Franchise as the Giants and they *really* need some speed. That's THE vital missing ingredient.

Any suggestions on who to try and swing a trade for?

That is a tough one. Base on the game (2010 version anyway), Baker seems to have good value. He was traded straight up for Cain in my franchise. I guess I would have to know what pitches they are given, but I would lean more towards Zito out of nostalgic reasons and his durability. My luck, that curve would be jacked out a mile once or twice an inning. What I do know is that I don't pitch well with sinkerball types, I pitch ok with slower pitches, but I do best with good fastball/slider combos.

If you want to keep it real, so to speak, find out who is putting up the better numbers, control for lineup, defense and park, and make your decision the way a real GM would.

Zito/Blanton would be the most realistic, as Zito has a ton of money left on his deal and the Phillies were looking to deal Blanton earlier in the offseason...Don't wanna give Bartolo Colon a shot?

Yeah, that's what I was planning to do! (Speaking of Colon) I'll probably start the regular season with what I already have, and see if I need to make a move. Colon got cut already for me, 3.0 IP (in 3 games), 8H, 6ER, 4HR. I don't know what it was, but he clearly wasn't going to cut it. Nova has been amazing, a sub-2.00 ERA over 10 IP, and Garcia has been decent, a 4.00 ERA over 11 IP. I think I'm going to give him a shot.

Thanks for the help! If I end up doing the trade, I'm heavily leaning towards acquiring Blanton, because it's easily the most realistic (especially given that I'm planning to send a very strong catching prospect). That being said... Baker is really the player I want to go after, I just have a good feeling about using him.

                            Great free agent bullpen help:

Manny Corpas and Kelvin Escobar have been great for me. They miss a lot of bats. Signed both to 1 year, 2 million dollar deals before opening day.

So once the OS rosters come out I've decided I'm going to start a franchise with the Angels as I've always been a Hunter and Wells fan so it'll be fun to have them both on the same team. My first order of business will be to bring Prince Fielder to Cali. Any of my prospects are available except for Mike Trout. Any suggestions?

Right now I'm thinking Conger, Bourjos, and possibly a pitching prospect for Fielder...
