Exactly what I was going to say. I mean, it's an option to allow the CPU to control it if somebody doesn't want to go into marketing, advertising, etc. Thats why they have season mode. I absolutely love their franchise.

I'm about to elapse the $1,000,000,000 mark in 2015. If life were that easy.
This is the only reason I still play MVP today. Anways, they do need to make financials matter a bit more to get people involved. Imagine if you had to trim your payroll because you finished $5 million in the red (you would have to take out the loan option though)? Would you gamble and sign that $15 million ace to get you over the hump? Or would you go dumpster diving to keep costs low? Or rebuild your minor league system? I mean, this would add immense replay value to franchise mode.

I know it isn't easy to code all of that in but I wish they forced us to be a bit more conscious on our spending.

Refresh my memory. What exactly did MVP have in this department? I set a lot of the dynasty mode options to Auto or Off, because I found the mode overwhelming/annoying and just wanted to play baseball. Then again, I was 17 and did not have a strong understanding of (read: "interest in") baseball logistics.

Well, just a quick rundown so we won't get too far off topic. But this is how it worked: You choose your initial budget ($0, $2 million, or $5 million) to start off with. After that, all the money you generate must be used to build your roster, stadium, vendors, etc. Everything was tied in nicely. If you generated $40 million in revenues and your expenses were $50 million, you can still add to your payroll, but cannot purchase upgrades to your stadium, purchase vendors, etc. Essentially, this will set your franchise back a year or two. What made this mode unique is that every market was accurate. I chose the Nationals and recieved a lousy $30,000 per day from media (tv, ads, etc). If you were the Yankees, you would recieve close to $1 million per day (but your expenses were also high)

Not to mention, it was very difficult. The only way I ever made enough money to upgrade my stadium was to release all my real players and to sign generic scrubs. Then I had to edit them to all 99 in order to win, to make more money.

I never completed that mode. It was too difficult and tedious for me.

LOL, I meant that if they used the MVP model, they would have to take out the loan option because it would be worthless. In the show, the loan is never needed (maybe in year 1 if you want to max out everything).

Perhaps a portion of it....but I'm thinking financials might be a bye bye soon anyway.

This is actual a huge benefit to the series. If we can eliminate all the tedious tasks and calculations then maybe the mode will run a lot smoother. I think they need just a simple budget system and not all the fancy ads, facilities, rehab, etc. All that code just jumbles together and we get issues like billion dollar incomes. Season mode does it right, just implement that into franchise mode to keep it simple and clean.

I always take out 2 loans in the first year and max out everything and then whatever I don't use I pay off very quickly. After the first or 2nd year I've already gotten my loans paid off.

Knight in past games high heats house rules on offseason has made this game whole lot more enjoyable and challenging. Has the ai been tweaked enough that I might be able to finally go without these rules?

I'm curious. What rules are you talking about? Got a link?

I use the Pirates in my franchise. I finally won the division in 2013, lost in the first round of the playoffs and got a 1% increase to the payroll budget.

I went into the off season $2 million dollars under the salary cap, after arbitration I was $11 million over the cap.

Has the amount of payroll increase been changed in the new show '12 version of the game? I'm making a ton of money for the owner, over $200 million accumulated, but the only way to increase the player payroll even slightly seems to be going deep into the playoffs.

                            Thanks.

I was looking for something in my garage a few months ago and stumbled upon Earl Weaver in the original box.
