    Haha...
We are aiming for the MLB Opening Day...however, we may re-import all the players onto SCEA's first update as it will have Darvish and Ramirez on it.

Just how does the scouting and draft processes work? I'm used to doing 2K's draft mechanics. How is The Show's different?

    You're welcome and thank you.
    I don't remember 2K's so I'll just give you a rundown of The Show's.

    You get 4 scouts.
    One Eastern US-Central US-Western US-International.
Scouts all have different areas of players in which their scouting abilities are lacking or they excel in(SP-RP-INF-OF...)
There is also a pool of scouts that you can hire(by firing your current) if you like. All scouts have a salary that is attached to them.(you can fire/hire during season...unlike managers and coaches which are only in off season).
For scouting players...there is a regional scouting page...(with the areas mentioned above).....and the list of players in those pools. You can target specific players and/or areas of focus(OF-SP etc)
You will receive e-mails from your scouts about the players and it will tell you if they learned all they can. You will see them as "targets" at draft day.
You don't always see the players that you focus in every draft(they don't always enter the draft.....but usually will in subsequent drafts). The more time you stay on them....the more you learn.

The actual allotment of players in the past has left something to be desired. Hopefully we see better pools of players showing up than in previous versions.(for instance...in order to keep the A potential players from getting too good too fast....they would be pretty low rated. I always noted each player drafted and once they signed with the team...I edited them anyway, but most people don't do that...so...)

The draft is 5 rounds(only 90 players in each team's system...so they couldn't really go further than that)

You then have to sign your players to contracts.

You don't see those players in your system until the following year in your franchise.

While it's not bad.....the scouting(in general...not just prospects) and drafts are definitely something that could use a lot of attention for 13.
I think '12 will be better in these areas than '11....just because of some minor tweaks.

Once you have a player....you get to see his MLB level scouting report(when you look at his card...it represents what it would be vs. MLB level players).

There is also a Rule V draft in the game....

    That's about it!

Awesome! Thanks for that. It's pretty cool that anybody you draft may or may not be available to you or any of your affiliates right away. That's generally what happens anyway.

One last thing, me thinks... about how often do you find a serviceable to good players in the drafts? Drafting a major player shouldn't occur too often but the disparity shown in draft picks in any game has irked me to the point where I don't even look to the draft to build anymore.

I understand that pitches don't progress, but when you find a pitcher with plus velocity, there should at least be some with A, B, or C potential. The only way you would get one last year is if you edited the player yourself.

Still, good news they are starting the ratings higher.
That renders one of the areas for training useless, bullpen session. I thought it was a glitch but there may be a reason for it. It will be interesting to see if it remains the same in the new version of the game.

I used to pay close attention to individual pitches until I realized they don't progress and are not as important as bb/9, k/9 and h/9.

You can use bullpen sessions to increase a pitchers control I believe.
It is the one area of individual pitches that does progress....albeit slightly.

That may be true but after I read this I focused only on training up these attributes.

K/9, H/9, and BB/9 are the most important attributes for pitching and matter in-game. Those three attributes as well as your pitch types will influence home runs, but the rest is up to the batter. In other words, if you hang a meatball over the plate it won't matter how good your HR/9 attribute is. And if you fool a batter with a pitch way outside, it won't matter how bad your HR/9 attribute is. All the HR/9 factors are taken into account by the other attributes in combination with the pitch type and location. In simulation the attribute accounts for these factors in one number rather than splitting them into detailed components.

For hitting Con, Pwr, and PVis are the most important. There is Dis which affects check swing skill, but obviously as far as taking balls and strikes that's 100% up to the user. All things being equal, it's the pitcher's BB/9 (i.e. accuracy) which is going to determine how many walks are going to happen.

So even though both pitching and hitting have 4 primary attributes, only 3 of them are dominant in-game because batters primarily control HRs and pitchers primarily control Walks. The pitcher and batter's influence against these are handled by factors like pitch types, the user's swing decision, and other overlapping attributes.
