Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Wow, I haven't posted on this forum in a LONG time, but reading all these impressions convinced me to re-purchase a PS3 and buy this game just to see how much has changed since I last had it (back with the '10 version I believe). I must say, after a hiatus from this franchise, it really is mind-blowingly impressive! The faces are so accurate, and so well animated, that the Uncanny Valley effect is starting to seep in (they did a great job fixing the "crazy eyes" from previous versions). The lighting is absolutely exceptional, and it gives the game a very photo-realistic appearance in many instances. I love how the uniforms and equipment look like they're made of their appropriate material.
I absolutely LOVE the zone plus analog hitting mechanic, and along with the excellent ball physics, I finally feel as though a company has captured the excellent hitting system used in the MVP series of the past. I know it was in last year's version, but I also really enjoy the analog pitching mechanic. It is a very immersive mechanic that truly makes me feel as though I'm rearing back and throwing a pitch. Having to aim to the left or right when trying to paint the corners is a very nice touch, and adds an extra degree of challenge to the system. I enjoy the analog fielding mechanic, although I'm still getting a bit used to the meter and how to properly gauge it (I kind of wish they just used a meter that you had to fill to gauge the strength of your throw).Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Two things that just happened with my RttS player that is strange...end of the season and my minor league contract is up so they reup for 1 yr 11.1 million to be a triple A starter...then in December I get traded to MIA for Hanley Ramirez and I'm still a minor league starter......so odd how RttS is..or how it things. Think it really needs a revamp.est 1978

Anyone feel that it is easy to throw out a runner from right field to first base. I've done it multiple times.Comment

Yes this has been discussed quite a few times actually. It can be used cheeply online, but offline the CPU will never do it and you just have to use a little self control and not do it.Moderator

Turn down fielder speed, arm strength and reaction one notch each. This should solve the problem. I believe the outfielders' arms are too strong in general. Everyone seems to throw like Ichiro.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Well I've spent the last few days playing the Show... so I guess I'll chime in a little more on the impressions I've already had.
For starters, I've never had more fun playing a baseball game. It keeps getting better, and I'm really excited to finally get to my franchise mode. Seriously.
The biggest problem with the game for me, is that it froze like 10 times trying to manage my roster. I don't know what the problem with it was, maybe it's that I did too many trades and overloaded the game. I was testing the trade logic for the year, and the game froze at the manage roster screen when I tried calling players up for spring training. Aside from that, I can't really complain on that end, and it'll probably smooth itself out.
I love the stadium work they've done this year. It feels so authentic. I played my first game in the Marlins new stadium and I am loving it.
For once, the game seems to be pretty balanced competitively. I played this game all weekend with my friend. For the record, in years past, I was always the much better player. My record over our countless matches is so high that sometimes I've had to go to a much higher difficulty and scale my sliders back even more just for him to be able to compete. And even then I usually win because I have great clutch hitting or he has poor clutch pitching.
This year however, was a plesant surprise, he and I are pretty close. No games have been blowouts, and most of our games have resulted in pitching duels. In fact, in one game we were both no hitting each other after 5 innings, which is pretty amazing considering how by the 5th, our game is almost over.
I also have to say, I am loving pulse pitching. It is actually rather easy to get the hang of, and I don't see how I could go back to the meter now.
Yeah, I dislike not being able to choose the speed of the pitch, but in some ways, I'm glad they really simplified it, and made it more about location than speed. Really levels the field for me.
I have yet to really jump online. I tried to do Diamond Dynasty, but the servers wouldn't let me do my stupid logo for my team. So I just gave up to put in another game till opening day.
I'm very satisfied with how the game looks. Very.-the least famous person you've never heard of.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I just got done playing my 2nd game. I was the Braves against the Marlins and Josh Johnson. I lost 7-3. But the good news is that I scored 3 runs all against Johnson and that I had 11 hits with 10 of them being off Johnson. 3 of those hits were doubles. My first extra base hits. The bad news is a struck out 14 times. And I guess Mike Minor's defense ratings are really low. I made 3 errors with him all on routine plays.
I biggest problem is getting the stride timing down and because of that it's making me late on my swing timing. I need to adjust the sliders a bit more.
I noticed how much better the ground balls look with the new ball physics! Really cool!Atlanta Braves

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
With 10 days already in with the game, I just can't enough of the freshness of the game still. The amount of animations in the game are insane and how the presentation is done it really feels you're watching a baseball game in its purest form. This is what I love about this game is the simplicity of it in all its aspects. The only slider changed I made so far is to max pitch speed, that's all and I play in all star with timing hitting and classic pitching. My goodness can't thank enough to the development team and the OS input towards this game every year!Comment

True. I still miss the umpire intros though. They happen in a real Major League broadcast. I can't figure out why SCEA removed that."The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I love it. I've had to mess with the sliders to fit my lack of twitch skills, but it's the best baseball game ever.
Better physics, imperfect pitching, improved sound effects ... I love it.
Two things I would love:
1) Teambuilder type manipulation of the rosters. Cloud could make this incredibly deep.
2) The zone batting icon should be a bit lighter. It can be distracting to us senior citizens to pick up a high fastball in the bright yellow.Comment
