Having a pretty good season. although Kemp has been in a slump. I'm thinking about getting Stanton and Pujols for some more sluggers.

Got a set with the O's coming up. They have giving me trouble this year, giving me half of my losses. And last game was rather close 17-7.

How is possibly any fun at all? I'd much rather get beaten down the computer and want to break my controller than be 92-2 batting near .500 with 3 players and having an all-star at every position...

                    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Just had an amazing game in my fantasy draft Marlins 'chise. We were in Philly, the 1-4 Marlins facing the 3-1 Phils who just beat us 5-11 the night before, but this night was ours.

Evan Longoria put together the greatest offensive night I've ever had with a player. Coming into the 6th game of the year he had only 1 home run, he left with 5. That's right, he hit 4 home runs in the game en route to an 11-4 rout of the Phils. It should have been 11-2 but horrible relief pitching in the 9th gave up 2.

After he had two HR's, in his 4th at-bat I thought, why not go for one more, so I influenced up, did a power swing, and took the first pitch of the at-bat out of the park. Same thing in his 5th at-bat, why not go for the records? Influence up, power swing, 2nd pitch of the at-bat out for his record tying 4th homer of the game!

                      (Stealing Ben's bullet-point format here )

                      • I started the season off terribly with an 8-16 record in the first month of the season.

                      • Thankfully I was able to turn things around and get the ball rolling with an 18-8 month of May.

                      • The Yankees, coming off an off-season in which Jeter, A-Rod, and Rivera all retired, were able to maintain their dominance despite those losses. It probably helped that they had a stacked rotation that included C.C. Sabathia, Roy Halladay (!!!), Chris Carpenter, and Tim Hudson.

                      • Going into the All-Star break, I dug myself out of that early season hole and was in a race with the Yankees for the division crown.

                      • The Rays were looking to get rid of David Price with him being in the final year of his deal, so I offered them J.P. Arencibia, Ervin Santana, and Eric Thames and they accepted. It was a big risk on my part because Travis D'Arnaud hadn't even been brought up beforehand, so I was in the thick of a playoff race with a rookie catcher coming into the lineup in the middle of the season.

                      • I suffered a huge hit to my lineup in the first week of September when Carl Crawford went down with a fractured arm against the Rays, which essentially ended his season.

                      • Closing in on the end of the season, the Yankees had a 3 game lead on me for the AL East crown. On the AL Wildcard side of things, the White Sox were a game back of me for that spot. File this under obvious foreshadowing.

                      • The final series of the season for me came down to a division-deciding series against the Yankees. To win the AL East, I had to sweep the series on the road. I won the first game 4-2 on the arm of Drew Hutchison keeping the Yankees to just 5 hits. The second game was a matchup of each team's ace, with Romero and Sabathia on the mound. It was a scoreless game for the first 5 innings, but eventually the Yankees pulled away with a 3-0 shutout, ending my hopes of winning the AL East and also putting me on the brink of missing the playoffs as the White Sox took their first 2 games against the Twins. Facing a must-win situation, I of course had to try and overcome Roy Halladay. Luckily, things went the same way they did against Halladay as they did in last year's playoffs when he was pitching for the Rangers and I jumped all over him, taking the game 11-2.

                      • However, the White Sox had to make things interesting by sweeping the Twins to close out their season, leaving us with a 1 game playoff to decide who would take that AL wildcard spot. It was a super-tense game to start, but a 4 run 4th inning for me proved to be enough to clinch a second-straight playoff appearance and I won 4-2.

                      • So after sweating out an end-of-season playoff race, what was my reward for making the playoffs? A matchup against the deadliest team I think I've ever seen a franchise mode produce: the 118 win Detroit Tigers! Not only did they win 118 games, their rotation featured 4 20-game winners, the reigning AL Cy Young winner in Justin Verlander (20-4, 1.87 ERA), and the reigning AL MVP in Prince Fielder (.332/69 HRs/191 RBI). I was hoping to get a chance at revenge against the Tigers, but man....

                      • Miraculously, I somehow steal Game 1 5-4. Game 2 doesn't go so well, as the Tigers destroy Brandon Morrow and win 8-3. The swing game of the series, Game 3, goes my way as well and somehow I have the Tigers on the brink of elimination again. Of course, the entirety of Game 4 has me constantly thinking back to last year. Despite that, I manage to hold on to a 2-1 lead and eliminate the 118-win Tigers, getting my revenge and eliminating one of the best regular season teams ever, as I make my second consecutive ALCS.

                      • In the ALCS, I'm matched up with the Yankees and take Game 1 1-0 in New York. Game 2 doesn't go so well and the Yankees tie the series at 1. They then carry that momentum the rest of the series and sweep all 3 games in Toronto, 2 of which had the Jays failing to hold on to a lead and losing by 1 run.

                      • In the World Series, the Marlins beat out the Yankees in 7 games.

                      • Now going into the off-season, I have a ton of big decisions to make. I have the likes of David Price, Adam Lind, Sergio Santos, Colby Rasmus, Yunel Escobar, Antonio Bastardo and Jason Frasor all looking to be re-signed. Luckily last year my budget was increased 3%, and this year it was increased by 4%, so I have some more flexibility. I'm just not sure if I should try and re-sign everyone or let some guys go to make room for some of my young up-and-comers.
Thanks for sharing. That was a fun read. I was going to just thumbs up it, but I figured you'd miss it, seeing that it's not on the last page anymore.

I'm looking forward to your offseason recap.

Just a little update on my Braves franchise. I am sucking pretty bad. My record 11-27 13GB of the first place Miami Marlins. I keep telling myself " its a race, not a sprint".

Just lost two tough games versus the first place Marlins. 1-0 and 5-4. They were a great games. I am getting hits now, just not with RISP. Bummer.

Up next is the Rays for three..

                              May 31st Notes

May was a much better month for the Pirates. Their record for the month was 19-9 overall, going 13-2 vs. the NL Central. This was helped by a 7-game winning streak to end May, including sweeps of the Cubs and Reds.

The offensive production has improved quite a bit, the Pirates surprising rank 10th in Batting Average, 13th in Home Runs and 11th in Slugging Percentage. A large part of this offensive success comes from Andrew McCutchen officially entering "Beast Mode", increasing his OPS to 1.023. Walker has been a consisten force in the middle of the lineup, while Barajas and McGehee have also been making some noise. Alvarez has been heating up after a slow start, both Nieuwenhuis and McLouth have been solid, and if Tabata starts hitting consistently this team may make some noise. A more realistic probability is that they finish the season in the bottom half in most offensive categories.

While the hitting has been quite good, the pitching is a little more up-and-down. Bedard has been pretty consistent and Burnett had a very good May, but Morton's disappointing season has continued and Correia may be better suited for the bullpen. Recently called up VandenHurk has won all 3 games he's started, but he's a bit of an unknown quality and there are questions about the quality of his repertoire. Hanrahan has been absolutely lights-out closing out games, and Resop and Meek have both been reliable late-inning options. The rest of the bullpen is a little cobbled together and there are a number of question marks.

                              SP Jameson Taillon - 6-2, 3.58 ERA, 70.1 IP, 77 H, 55 K, 15 BB
                              CP Stetson Allie - 0-0, 1.57 ERA, 23 IP, 20 H, 17 K, 5 BB, 23/23 SV

                              Injuries
SS Clint Barmes on 15-day DL with Torn Finger Ligament, out another 1-2 months
SS Jordy Mercer on 15-day DL with Fractured Shin, out another 2-3 weeks
LF Brandon Boggs on 15-day DL with Shoulder Separation, out another week or so
RP Duke Welker on 15-day DL with Fractured Wrist, out another 1-2 months
RF Josh Bell on 15-day DL with Torn Calf, out another month or so
1B Jeff Clement on 60-day DL with Broken Collarbone, out another 1-2 weeks

                              Trades
5/11 - Traded SP James McDonald to Houston for SS Marwin Gonzalez (C Potential) and LF Jacob Goebbert (C Potential). The Astros pick up a solid starting pitcher who could be in their rotation for quite a while. The Pirates saw Gonzalez as a possible future starter, but with the injury to Barmes he'll get a chance to start now.
5/30 - Traded 1B Garrett Jones and RP Juan Cruz to Colorado for SP Christian Friedrich (C Potential) and SP Parker Frazier (C Potential). The Rockies are in 1st in the NL West and Cruz will fill an immediate need in the bullpen, and they hope that Jones can be a long-term answer at 1B if Helton retires. Jones had been struggling at the start of the season, but started tearing the cover off the ball a week or two before the trade. Friedrich had been a reliever in Colorado (4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 K, 0 BB) but will probably start for Pittsburgh. Frazier's future is probably in the bullpen.

                                (small) Update:
                                • Michael Young is officially a Phillie! It took a little more than I wanted (Joe Blanton, a B prospect, and a C prospect). I get the feeling if I had held off until the Twins were officially out of contention, I might have gotten a better deal. Oh well.
                                • Ty Wigginton has been released.
                                • Worley has a nasty 1.56 ERA right now. Definitely one of the two biggest breakouts in my franchise, right next to JMJ.
                                • Mets lead the division by 1.0 game, around the halfway mark of April.
Hey guys, sorry about the gap between posts, I've been on vacation and then have been playing the NCAA demo for the last two days. Played a few games this morning, so here we go...

                                Notes:
                                • The Phillies have gotten off to a smoking hot start, kicking off the season with a 22-9 record. They are currently 4.5 games ahead of the Marlins and Braves for first place.
                                • The Phil's 22 wins are the most in the MLB.
                                • Roy Halladay shrugs early season issues, and goes on to win his next 4 games with a 2.03 ERA.
                                • Hamels has struggled, posting a ERA of 4.03.
                                • Dominic Brown has struggled in his "rookie" season, hitting .247 with 0 HR's. Hes been kicked down to 8th in the order, swapping spots with a hot hitting Galvis (.336, 4 HR's).
                                • The Michael Young trade has worked out well for me, as he is hitting .325 with a .992 fielding %.
