Is there anyway I can do the LA/BOS megatrade mid season without having to start again? I keep getting the message saying the Dodgers are over their player salary budget....

Someone made a thread about that asking how to do it. You do indeed have to start a new season unless you have unlimited salary cap and trade override on. When you make a new franchise, make sure you have those 2 things on. The salary cap is important, IDK if the trade override is, but it's probably needed.

        Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Had another great game in my Nationals franchise against the Braves.

Zimmermann vs. Beachy started off really poorly, giving up 4 runs in the first and looking off all game. I took him out in the 3rd for a pinch hitter and put Gorzelanny, who is usually great, in. I scored 3 in the 4th to make the score 4-3, and was hoping I'd be able to tie it up soon. The Braves had other plans, putting up a 4 spot in the 6th with back to back home runs from Heyward and Chipper. I got one back with Harper in the bottom of the 6th, but wasn't expecting much else out of my team.

In the 7th we finally got to Beachy, getting lucky with an error by Jack Wilson which allowed us to keep runners on base and score. After tying the game at 8, the 8th inning was uneventful. I put in Cole Kimball, a rookie who's been doing well in relief for me, in the 9th thinking he'll be able to get out of the inning with no damages. First pitch, McCann takes over the left field wall for a solo HR, giving the Braves the lead back. I was so frustrated that a game like this would be one I end up losing, but made it out of the inning down 1.

Johnny Venters comes in for the save, and quickly retires Desmond and Werth. I wasn't excited about batting with Harper against the lefty, and assumed it would be a short AB to end the game. First pitch, hits it opposite field, and just clears the wall! I wasn't able to score again but thankfully took the game to extras.

Bottom of the 10th, with 2 outs, Anthony Rendon, the rookie who's in for Zimmerman while he's hurt, gets a triple. I have to pinch hit for Kimball with Rick Ankiel whose been having an awful year at the plate. The first pitch he gets he lines to right for a walk-off single and an amazing come back win! This game was so full of craziness and excitement, I'm glad I was able to stay with it and somehow pull it off.

Right now I stand at 31-22, 1.5 games back of the Phillies on June 2nd.

My offense is absolutely putrid right now. In a four-game series with the Rockies, I scored a total of 2 runs. I'm to the point I'm questioning how I hold the controller when I hit. Just an awful awful slump. Bourn is the only player that can get on base it seems.

Salvaged the final game of the series 1-0 behind a masterpiece from Beachy. This after losing 1-0 the night before. Heading to New York now for a 3-game series with the Mets. Hopefully I can get the bats going. I've got a 3.5 game lead over the Phillies with the Marlins 6 back.

Slumbs are hard to swallow at times. Have had also very though slumbs during my 2012 Franchise. Best thing is to hold on and try your best to break out of the mess. And when its happen, its a wonderful thing. Dont try to change everything!!

Does anyone in this thread run their franchise games in Manager Mode. The GM/manager aspect of Franchise appeals to me a lot more than actually playing the games, so I'm wondering how satisfying it is to play in MM.

I would sim the games and just do roster stuff, but I don't trust the CPU to use effective strategy or make use of the bench/bullpen effectively.

I completely understand what you are going through. In my Indians franchise, 2nd yr, I'm towards the end of July and my offense is having trouble getting it together.

I went one game where I led off three straight innings with a double and I was not able to score. That ish was frustrating!! I'm barely losing games. I guess that's baseball and what makes this game awesome.

And to think I was ready to put The Show down because Madden was released smh.

I've had those stretches, too. Just when you think the difficulty you're on is too easy, you get humbled quickly.

I'm hitting .260 as a team right now, which isn't bad. Not having Ike Davis in my lineup has really hurt in the HR category, though. I hit a grand total of 1 in a 3-game series in Toronto, but the good news out of that series is that I won all 3 games for the sweep!

Still 10.5 back of the Braves (best record in MLB right now), but only .5 games out of 3rd place in the NL East at 18-23. Hopefully when Ike returns next week, things will pick up.

Slumps suck, but at the same time they're baseball. And it's so realistic. Pitching with Beachy, I felt like I had to make every pitch perfect, because I just knew my offense wouldn't be able to cover for any mistake I made on the mound.

I decided to sim until the end of the season, before my DBacks were knocked out of the NLDS by the Phillies. I had an expensive offseason, tying down Ian Kennedy among others such as Drew and Hudson to a long term deal, as well as re-signing pretty much everyone I could, except for Luis Mendoza, who I claimed off waivers earlier in the year, Lyle Overbay who I didn't offer a deal to, and JJ Putz. I wanted to keep JJ putz but after already spending a lot, I couldn't match his 3yr/$17m offer from St. Louis (who have had a monster off
An offseason, also adding Edwin Jackson and Ichiro).

John McDonald, Henry Blanco and Willie Bloomquist were my only retirements.

So going into spring training, I have openings at closer, back up shortstop an back up catcher.

For closer, I'd love to trade for Brian Wilson, but it seems unlikely, leaving my internal candidates of Bryan Shaw, David Hernandez, Sam Demel and Anthony Meo.

At shortstop, my number 1 target would be Elvis Andrus I'll most likely just look to pick up a cheap free agent as backup to Stephen Drew.

And backup catcher is very much between Konrad Scmidt and Austin Romine, a prospect I picked up in the deal that sent Joe Saunders tothe Yankees last year.

Just experienced one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played with any title, and I can't keep it to myself.

I've had this game for a little more than two weeks. Playing a 29-game season using Bedwardsroy's/PJSnell's awesome historical rosters.

                          Reds (me) at Red Sox

I took a 3-0 lead off Cy Young (never realized he was so portly, but he's got a cool old-school delivery) after Pete Rose hits a two-run inside-the-park homer (Yaz tried for the diving catch in LF and missed. Ball rolled to the wall and Charlie Hustle rounded the bases. Loved the cutscene showing Rose being congratulated by teammates and coaches in the dugout.

Red Sox tied it at 3-3 in the sixth when my starter (Jim Maloney?) faltered. Sox put Papelbon in in the seventh (one of the commentators says he thinks it's too early for him). He stays for the eighth, when George Foster leads off with a prodigious homer to center field to break the tie.

Then, in the ninth, pinch-hitter Tony Perez homers over the Green Monster to put the Reds up 5-3. Clay Carroll closes it out in the ninth.

                          That. Was. Fun.

It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

Currently I have a fantasy drafted Cardinals team going in it's second year. I drafted Stephen Strasburg, Aroldis Chapman and Mike Trout in my first 3 rounds. Strasburg carried the rotation as much as he could, and the offense was really poor (Trout, Encarnacion, Lawrie, Rasmus). I eventually traded off every blue jay player on my roster in annoyance and picked up Berkman, Michael Young, Jed Lowrie, Tom Milone, Anibal Sanchez and Marco Scutaro. Plus I really stacked my bullpen (Sean Burnett, Mike Adams, David Robertson and Antonio Bastardo). made it in to the playoffs in the wild card spot but lost in the NLCS. I lost a couple players to free agency but improved my bullpen with Jeremy Affeldt. Now I'm in my second year and traded away an under performing Lance Berkman for Adam Lind (who's having a surprisingly awesome year) and traded away Josh Tomlin for Matt Latos and Billy Hamilton (awesome deal). I also traded off Ian Stewart who wasn't doing too badly for Will Middlebrooks. I lightened my load of relievers by trading away Burnett and an underperforming A potential SS prospect for Starlin Castro and Danny Valencia because I was lacking infield. So my current batting order is consisting of 1 player on my original draft (Mike Trout). I need a vacation.

Mariners decided to give me a wake up call, lol.

Lost 7-1 and 12-5 in the final two games of that series.
