    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Updated trade targets we are 8.5 out fifth place AL central:

    Trade targets:
July 31 is looming and we have been looking at some external options:

John St. Piere 29 (S) SS Pitt- We need a major league ready shortstop bad. Piere is one of the best fielders in the league has a ton of range and speed. He hits from both sides of the plate and although he is having a down year at .227 we think his speed can be an offensive asset. We have begun preliminary discussions with the third place Pirates.

Edwardo Chaves 22 (S) SS Tex- Okay he is not major league ready and Kelly is our future at short but Chaves is going to be a star. He projects as hitting for both power and average and has plus speed. His defense needs some work so realistically he will need at least another year in the minors. Although Texas has a glut of shortstop prospects and two productive shortstops in the majors they are going to demand a ton for Chaves.

Mich Evers 27 R C Pitt- Another Pirate. Evers is in the majors and is plus defensively and already has a good contact bat. I think in time he will develop power as well. This is a future franchise guy behind the plate and needless to say its going to take a bunch to get him but it may be worth it.

Lane Scott 27 LHP Sea- Scott is having a rough go of it in 2012 at 1-7. He looks like another Lopez a lefty with a lot of promise and a lot of work that needs to be done. Nonetheless the Mariners have indicated a willingness to trade him and we may bite.

Richard Key 31 SS R Oak- Key has bounced from triple A to the big club this year in Oakland and is blocked by the A’s allstar shortstop Roberts. He does not have a great bat and our scouts tell me at this point limited upside but he has experience and one of the top gloves in the game.

      Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

      and finally trades:

      Trades 2012:

      July 18, 2012:

Angels acquire Walt Owens 27 1-2 3.23 3SV “A potential” for Josh Kaveney 22 RHP (B potential), Brian Pate 21 RHP (B potential) and Robby Sanchez 19 RHP (B potential).

A day after the allstar game we made a move sending our setup man Walt Owens to the Angels for double A starting pitchers Josh Kaveney 22, Brian Pate 21 and single A closer Robby Sanchez. All three reported to our double A affiliates.
I’m getting killed for this one with allegations that we have given up on 2012. Although we are in last place trading Owens was difficult. He has underperformed but at 27 we still think he is one of the top setup guys in the league. The Angels are tied for first in the West and needed bullpen help and came to us with an offer we had to take.
Our scouts tell me that Kaveney and Pate will develop into mid rotation starters and that in a year or two Sanchez may be anchoring our pen. Our minor league system is now stocked with pitching depth. I think this is a deal that will look much better in a few years.

      July 20, 2012:

White Sox acquire 2B Howard Kline 23 S (B potential) from Seattle for SP Matt Rutledge 32 4-7 5.52 ERA RP Theo Ratliff 21 (A potential) and RF Nino Vazquez 22 (B potential).

Another move I am getting killed for. Rutledge had put together a string of quality starts before the break and has been an inning eater but when we had the chance to move him for value we grabbed it. Realistically he is a bottom of the rotation starter and with injuries in their rotation Seattle needed him. It was more difficult to part with Ratliff and Vazquez. Vazquez was starting to look like a real player. He has shown considerable pop in triple A moving from a C to B potential in our estimation. Although Ratliff had difficulty this season in the majors he has big time stuff and we are positive is going to be a top reliever.
I would never have made this move for anyone except Kline. Kline still needs time to develop and is defensively challenged but this guy can hit. I look forward to seeing what he can do in a year or two.

      July 24, 2012:

White Sox acquire SS Richard Key 31 (C potential) from Oakland for David Colbane 22 RHP (B potential)

We have been looking for a shortstop for some time and while Oakland extracted a high price in Colbane we think Key is going to be a big addition. He can run and hit a bit but the key is his glove which is one of the best in the league. Apart from shoring up the middle he is going to be a welcome mentor to Kelly we have finally been able to drop down to triple A to continue his development.

      July 28, 2012:

White Sox acquire SP Jose Ardoin 27 4-6 4.34ERA from Texas for Rafael Jimenez C 24 (B potential), George Carter 2B 26 (B potential), Eric Gordon RHP 27 (B potential).

This was a big one and the Owens trade helped it happen. With our minor league system restacked I felt confident dealing some of our kids to the rebuilding Rangers. The key to the deal for Texas was Jimenez (initially we tried to center a deal for Texas SS Eduardo Chavez but Texas would not bite), they needed a catcher badly and look at Jimenez as a future team leader. Jimenez, Carter and Gordon go directly to the big league team and Texas hopes will be building blocks for the future.
We have been drooling over the Texas farm system all season in particular their exhaustive number of under 24 year old flame throwing starting pitchers in triple and double A. They seem to have wanted to deal someone in the 2012 rotation for future position players, in particular a catcher and second baseman, and were getting fed up with the inconsistent Ardoin. For our part we see a 6,2 workhorse with a plus 90’s fastball and a sweeping curve. If we turn things around this year Ardoin is going to be a big part of it and at 27 we think he will be at the top of our rotation for years to come. Although it was difficult parting with our one catching prospect this was a trade I had to make.

Should I start a franchise with the A's, Rays or Orioles? I am looking for a young team with a good farm system. I love young pitching. I hate the ColoSsum, even though the A's a intriguing. I plan to sim the first year so I can have a clean start with a good luck at the free agent market. Thanks in advance.

              Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

              hey guys-
does anyone know of users who post updated franchise files for download? or would someone be willing to share their own file? i've been interested in playing through my own franchise with reasonably accurate roster moves/injuries for my team (Jays and/or Pirates) implemented. i usually set these as CPU-controlled for the other 29. but, i usually get frustrated by some detail, like missing minor-leaguers, and start over. now, i find it abit overwhelming to start a new file and try to develop it all the way up to date. i'd really enjoy being able to play out a franchise for my team starting from today, or a recent date.

i'm a newbie at this. id appreciate any help or other suggestions anyone would be willing to give.

                Question on franchise mode,

I see my players' attributes go down one tick after every game. I thought it had something to do with fatigue and after an off day they would return. This is not the case so I'm wondering, why do they go down and how far will they go before it stops?

so.. I have 2 for you guys 1st have you noticed that some teams seem to be able to get better scouts than others? ehat I mean by that is I am running 2 different but concurring franchises at the same time (jays/ pirates) and I have found the jays seem to be able to get the 4 player scouts much easier than the pirates

Also I drafted a 2b at age 20 (4th rd) , A pot, low F grade. I am now in year 5 of his development. he is playing AAA and sucking and still only a D should I give up on him and trade him? any Ideas?

Btw I basically use royals formula with a couple personal twists

If you arent opposed to starting the season with updated rosters you can go into the roster vaults and download the deadline roster's. I cant remember the exact file name but sort by downloads and it shouldn't be hard to find.

My bats weren't showing up this past week (July 16-22) so I decided to make some line up adjustments (order) and now I'm currently up 8-1 in the 5th.

As always, I'll be putting together my July recap once I complete the month.

Opening Day 2013 Red Sox Season
Facing the Yankees and what a game...
All of the runs, except the last run by the Yankees, were all solo homers...
I hit 2 homers by Trevor Plouffe and Carl Crawford and 1 from Pedroia...
I was a triple away from hitting for the cycle with Pedroia...
I had a no-no going with Lester through I think 5 innings until Cano blasted one off me... He also ended up with 2 homers in the game... Teixeira also homered in the game...
Breslow struck out 2 out of 3 batters, the third scoring the 4th run... but still wouldnt be enough...
Bailey came in to shut them down in the 9th... Red Sox win 5-4...

                          Exciting game none-the-less...
Also played Game 2 of the year and pulled out another win with Gonzo and Kalish homering, Hill and Aceves pitching great in relief and Bailey pulling out another save...

                            Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Just finished my first season using Scott's latest rosters.

Finished 1st place in the division, 4 games ahead of the White Sox, but that is far from the highlight of the season, as a triple crown was earned! All season, 3 players were competing for the top spot in average, home runs, and RBI's. Those three were Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, and Josh Hamilton. They repeatedly traded the top spot in each category all season, at the all-star game the leaders were Josh Hamilton, Prince Fielder, and Cabrera respectively. One of them would not be denied though, and they did it in grand fashion. With 15 games left in the season for Detroit, Cabrera had 68 home runs and was poised to take the record from Bonds, especially after hitting 1 home run in each of the next 2 games. However it was not meant to be as Cabrera failed to hit another, but he did finish with the triple crown!

This is the first time I've even seen 60 in a season, let alone 70! I was ecstatic to have the record within my grasps, but I couldn't get over that wall for the last 2 no matter what I did! It was almost as if the game prevented it from happening, I didn't slow down at all in hitting with Cabrera, just no long ball. Has anyone else come that close and just fall short?

Going into the post season, my bullpen is a serious problem, they've done terrible all season. My starters have been good, with Verlander pitching exceptional, finishing 23-2. Hitting has been up and down, only Fielder and Cabrera have been consistently good. Will update with award winners once I get a chance.

Not that anyone cares, but I did begin my season mode last night with the Blue Jays. Mine is predicated 100% on fun. I am going to only bat for my team, and only play games in April and September (until I am eliminated from playoff run).

I am also going to only play on pro and not even bother trying to draw walks. Walks are boring.

I opened the season up last night with a sweep in Cleveland. It was pretty fun.

This should be a good way to actually progress through a franchise. I've never been able to do that in baseball games.

Just began 2014 with the Tigers. Texas has ended each of my last 2 seasons in the ALCS, hopefully with the signing of Josh Johnson I can finally get over the top.

Cabrera and Fielder have been monsters from the start so I'm excited for this season, although I will likely move either Porcello or Scherzer before the deadline.
