Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread

Got the game today and having a blast with it. Gameplay is what you'd expect with The Show and graphics remind me of the very first Show game on the PS3. Playing with default AS sliders with pitch speed down 2 clicks. in one of the options there was a choice of "beginner", "Experienced" and "expert". I chose expert. Don't know if that really means anything in regards to actual gameplay or not. Seeing all kinds of hit variety and since I'm an old guy the "softball" visual to the ball in play doesn't bother me at all. In fact I'm grateful for it. Here's something that had me pleasantly surprised: Played a game Cards (me) vs Rangers and I used auto baserunning. Frucal drew a walk and on the fourth pitch to Beltran he stole second. First time one of my players have ever stole a base without me manually sending him.

Does anyone know if the sliders react the same between the PS3 and the Vita versions, or do we need two separate slider sets to achieve the same general results?

I think they are, which is impressive.

I had to bail on pulse pitching on the vita. Love it on PS3, but way to hard for me on the smaller screen. So I went back to meter. Such a new yet fun experience. Want to play around with it more.

My PS3 is now solely occupied by my 5 year old. I take her to many doctors appts and chemo, and alot of times I am there waiting for 4-5 hours either reading or browsing the internet. The Vita allows me to play a game I love during those times and keeps my mind occupied. Also being able to play in bed without worrying about keeping her awake with the big TV is a blessing and I hate to leave her side to play in basement . Thank you Sony for making the Vita and the Show as its helping me get through some tough times.

Just in case you didn't know...

While pitching you can use the touch screen to pick your pitch and to place it. This helps a great deal with aiming.

I find that the longer I am playing on the Vita version the more I completely forget I am using a handheld. I played RTTS for like an hour while at work today and completely forgot where I was.

Any update on this? That doesn't work for me, and it's not in the manual.

Love this game so far. Only thing I haven't seen is a home run where it's a definite home run and camera just views it from behind home plate. Don't know if they got rid of this with presentation. Either way still an awesome game.

They didn't. I've hit and given up at least seven or so already. It's still there. Maybe you just have to hit it a bit further (I don't mean that as a backhanded suggestion, just saying that's probably all it takes).

All the improvements over the PSP versions of this game are evident. But I cannot stress how important an improvement cross platform saves are. The PSP version was fun, but for all the versions I bought on PSP, I barely played any of them. I had no reason. I don't play exhibition games except in order to test settings and sliders. Didn't want to start a RTTS because I already had one going on PS3 and wouldn't ever make any progress. But having the ability to play the same RTTS/franchise on both is an absolute game changer. It gives me a reason to actually play the Vita version. I've probably played more of MLB 12 on the Vita in 2 days than I would on any PSP version for the whole season.

I picked this up on Tuesday and I am in love.. I might have to get the PS3 version as well if I find it for sale for $39.

Anyway, the Vita totally impresses me and this game runs very well on it. I made a RTTS Pitcher and Im grinding it out in AA getting used to Pulse Pitching and which settings to use. I still suck at batting.. I just cant hit well on the Show, I have no patients and cant ID the pitches so I swing and miss at everything... I did OK last year with zone hitting and pitch guessing after awhile but I guess when I start playing full games I will get it down again.

My only real issue is fielding! with my pitcher if I get a ball hit to me I always toss it to 3rd because on every other game I have ever played 1st base is the right O button.. defaults for this and I cant figure out how to change it yet O is 3rd base.. its an inverted look at the field and it drives me nuts.

Placed my order for the Vita and should have it by Monday. The #1 reason for the purchase: cross platform saves.

As others have said: game changer

Seriously? Aiming pitches has been one of the real downfalls of this game for me. I'll try this today.

I managed to eliminate the left analog stick mostly by utilizing timing only hitting, but this was still a reason I was thinking of abandoning it on Vita. I don't have the most precise left thumb in the world.
