can't really blame the Reds management either since their decision has been spot-on so far

Thanks guys! How about Broxton? He has been lights out so far with a sub 2.2 ERA. Not sure where to send him yet, but I will take a look when I get home.

There's been a lot of discussion about Denard Span going to the Reds as a left-handed bat off the bench. Awful idea. A) We've got Xavier Paul; B) Span has a big contract; C) We're deep in OF's; and D) Span's just a fair player. We gain nothing. What we need is a lefty in the bullpen because Bill Bray sucks anymore.

The reason Span is being talked about so much is because the Reds lack a true leadoff hitter. He gives them something they don't have, he's also a plus defender with speed.

Also, I don't see the problem with slotting him in the OF with Stubbs and Bruce. I don't see Paul or Ludwick as blocks for Span. And having seen a lot of Span because of him being in the AL Central for so long, I'd play Span over Ludwick or Paul all day. He's an underrated talent. Not to mention the fact that he isn't super expensive at 3M this season...and I'd bet Minny would eat some of that salary as well.

I do. I've heard this argument before. A "true leadoff hitter" is usually only going to matter a couple of times in a ballgame. True, Drew Stubbs may only be hitting .231 right now, but he's got 12 HR's. He hit the ball okay the last week, so his average should pick up soon. I hope...

Oh, and did I mention the fact that we're in first place over the Pirates and the Cardinals? We need someone else instead of Bray to be a lefty setup man, but otherwise I think we're set to win the whole enchilada.

You're telling me that trading for a a lefty set up guy will make you a better team than the Angels, their rotation, Mike Trout, Albert, and Trumbo?

Bugle, did you just die? Cause I know how much you hate relievers lol.

Actually, we already are a better team than the Angels. We're in first place in the NL Central; the Angels? Third place in the AL Weak. Outside of Jered Weaver, your pitching is mediocre.

Don't underestimate setup guys, my friend. They don't get a lot of press, but they are so valuable.

That hurt big time plus him saying that Span isn't a good option for the team, i didn't know he was enjoying Drew Stubbs and his sub .300 OBP. If you think one reliever is gonna help your crazy it will earn you .5 wins in the second half at that. Span could double that even playing poorly.

Those "couple times" in a ballgame are a couple wins that could be the difference from an early exit in October to a WS title.

And I could care less about average and HR power in my leadoff hitter. The stat I want is OBP. If a guy is getting on base, working the count (slightly anecdotal I know), and has speed...he's doing his job perfectly in that leadoff spot. Stubbs has 3x as many Ks as BBs this season (30 BB to 93 K) and an OBP of .300 even. Span has walked 9 fewer times than he's struck out (39 BB to 48 K) and has an OBP of .354.

If your honestly telling me that an increase of 54 points in OBP from your leadoff hitter won't help you score runs...I'm gonna chalk this one up to ignorance and move on.

Plus, I'm not suggesting to replace Stubbs with Span. Keep Stubbs in the lineup just move him down, dump Ludwick or Paul and play Span in LF.

And I'm gonna ignore that comment about Bill Bray being the weak link holding this team back from greatness, cuz that one is literally one of the funniest I've read on this site.

Weakest division in baseball my backside. The Pirates and the Cardinals (and Gawd how I hate to admit this) and the Cardinals are decent teams.
