I do think the Astros are a team that will sneak up on you. I starting to love their lineup. The pitching is what I got to utilize better. Example David Carpenter is better in the 8th rather than the 7th. Reason being his stuff is absolutely filthy. I tried many combination but that's where I will settle with. On the offensive end Johnson, Martinez, Castro, Lee are solid. I also discover Synder in the minors will be called upon when Lee is gone. Love his game! Also as I mention earlier Cosart is plain nasty. So Astros have pieces but you gotta use them right. So excited to call up some guys to enrich our future.

anybody's better then Lyon in the 8th but im gunna be fair and give him every opportunity to fail before i pull the plug.....Carpenter fits in nicely as the 7th-inning guy to start the year with.....i wouldn't put him in a pressure situation just yet......i despise Johnson, all but ready to trade Lee.....counting on Martinez and Castro to have big years...Snyder is awful.....Cosart, Singleton, and Villar are all under my Christmas tree waiting to be unwrapped at some point in 2012

Yeah I'm gonna have to rebuild the whole pen. Not even sure Frankie stays as CP with fireballer Parnell waiting in the wings.

I enjoyed pitching with David Carpenter as well and he was solid in the 7-8th innings. Potential trade target for me

What slider settings are you guys using on the injury bar? You want the injury bug to bite but not that hard

                Re: Da Astros

Hey guys, ive really enjoyed reading this thread so i thought id share how my astros franchise is going so far. As of May 15 im in 4th place in the nl cental with a record of 15-20.
Currently my lineup is 1 altuve starting at second (batting in the mid 200s after an awful start) 2 schaffer playing cf (batting high 200s after very hot start and is tied for the lead in stolen bases in nl with 11) 3 My mvp so far carlos lee (batting .333 with 8hr and 21 rbi) 4 jd martinez playing lf (batting around 280 with 4 hr and 16 rbi got off to a horrid start but has been scorching hot the past 3 weeks) 5 castro playing catcher (had the worst first month avg wise, has been better this past week and right now is batting 180 with 2 hr and 9 rbi, i primarily kept starting him bc hes amazing defensively) 6 lowrie playing ss (love him as my ss, good defense switch hitter batting 250 with 4 hr, hes been hot as of late) 7 marwin gonzalez playing 3rd base (recently got thr starting job and is playing great batting over 300 with 3 hr and great defense) 9 bogusevic playing rf (has had a bad start now batting 200 with no hr but has picked it up a bit the last week) my bench includes snyder at catcher who hasnt been bad, fernando martinez as an outfielder who has been very good when he plays, shuck, downs, and scott moore who i recently called up after demoting brett wallace.
Some key injuries ive had have been to chris johnson who was great for me in the 5th spot batting close to 300 and 2 hr, hell got a ball to the face which fractured his cheekbone and sent him to the 15 day dl, hes back in 1 week. Also paredes broke his ankle the second week of the season and hes now on the 60 day dl.
My starting rotation has been the strong point of my team. Wandy has a losing record but has been a solid ace with an era of 3.79 and inning eater. Bud Norris has been greaat with with a 2.8 era and plenty ks. JA Happ has been the surprise of the rotation, he 3-1 with a 1.89 era. Lyles so far certainly looks like a future ace, he has a 4-0 record with a 2.5 era and recently outperformed halladay for a w. In the 5th spot sosa had an awful start to the season which is reflected in his record, he is 1-5, but has had a great last 3 starts lowering his era to 4.89.
Most of the bullpen has sucked and are the reason for many losses. Myers is near the leaders in saves but has blown 3 saves and has an era of about 5.8.

When traading time arrives Carlos Lee, Wandy, and Myers will definitely be traded for prospects.
My cornerstone players who i will be building around are JD, Schaffer, Altuve, Lyles, and Norris.
When it comes to the minors, Singleton dominated AA the first month batting over 400 so now he is in AAA and batting 300, when i trade lee i might consider bringing him up if hes still raking, but hell definitely be my starting 1B next year. Other top prospects in AAA are springer, and cosart. I seperate the top prospects based on ETA.
So far this astros franchise has been the most fun ive had running a team in any game. It will be crazy when it comes time to make some trades and call up top prospects. Ill definitely keep posting updates and checking in on how ur chises are going. GO STROS!

Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed reading up on your season so far. Who do you have performing well in the minors if you get an opening in your rotation or Sosa stinks it up even more?

We've discussed David Carpenter as a solid bullpen piece in this thread. How's he working out for you? Is he your setup guy in the 8th or do you have Lyon there?

Im glad u enjoyed it totte... As far as who I would consider bringing up for a rotation spot, Id have to decide between Kyle Weiland (so far in AAA he has a 2-1 record with a 2.36 era)
, Lucas Harrell (AAA 3-1with a 2.68 era), or Paul Clemens ( AAA 3-3 record and 4.53 era). I like Weiland and Clemens more than Harrrell bc theyre both higher potential and younger than Harrell and since Im not planing to contend this year Id rather give guys with a higher ceiling a shot. BTW Cosart is killing it in AAA, eventhough he has a 3-4 record, his era is at 1.97. He could definitely be an option later in the year.

Carpenter is definitely one of my favorites. At the start of the year when i was setting up the bullpen, i made carpenter my setup man simply bc i love his filthy stuff, but his first few appearences where horrific and he had an era over 10 for a while, so then i demoted him and made wesley wright the setup man. Then after a few low pressure situations he started to pitch better and gained confidence. As of late ive been using both carpenter and wright in the 8th depending on the situation, and it has been working mostly well. I use Lyon as my 7th inning guy. PS Carpenter has a 6.59 era, Wright has a 1.59, and Lyon has a 3.86.

he's had a good year so far too so u never know, if he keeps it up and the other guys dont i might just give him a shot

so i just finished my 2 game series with the Phillies and i just happened to sweep them when in game 1 i faced halladay, and game 2 it was lee. My offense had been pretty anemic up to this series, but in game 1 it was a 10-4 victory over halladay and in game 2 it was my reliable ace wandy (8 innings 3 earned runs) outdueling lee to earn a 5-4 (all 4 runs off of lee). The unlikely hero of the game was Fernando martinez (batting 8th) who had a two run bomb and the game tying rbi triple that knocked off lee in the 7th inning. Also Carlos Lee continued his spectacular season by going 4-4 (3 singles and 1 double). In the 9th Wandy tried to go for a complete game but walked the first batter, Howard, so Myers came in to close it out. He consequently struck out Pence, got Utley to ground into a fielder's choice, and with a runner in second and 2 outs he got victorino to hit a pop up to 3rd, picking up his 13th save. The Stros are now 16-20.
Next up its a series at home v the Brewers with Bud Norris facing Gallardo in the first game.

agreed... there was a stretch hat started when i was playing @ MIlwakee that i couldnt get more than 4 hits in a game, including a game where i lost in 18 innings and my offense just scored 1 run , that was definitely he low point, but now that i figured out how to hit with guys like JD, lowrie, altuve, and casto it can be pretty fun. The key is to be patient.

Also a huge plus is their unis and stadium. For some reason i love the darkish red with black and grey theme, and also Minute Maid is so unique that it makes it really fun playing there.

since it was my birthday today, i didnt get to play many games this weekend but through the first 6 games so far, i'm 4-2, pounding out 4 homers to squeak by the Braves 6-4 in game 1 backing Jordan Lyles's strong outing....took advantage of two *big* innings at the dish to outlast the Bravos 7-4 in game 2 with Weiland having to leave the game after 4 to some shoulder tightness (he's fine...thank god) and the bullpen having to piece together the final 5.....Tim Hudson went 7-strong in game 3 to salvage game 3 thanx to McCann's 4/5 day at the plate and Carpenter not having one of his usual strong outings
