<Shrug> Nothing wrong with saying what you think as a representative. But yah, if you read his quoted part, the Tigers expressed interest when he placed Rodriguez on the trading block in his franchise.

Really, all I do as a representative is give my input on whether I think it is a fair deal from my team's perspective. Especially with the statistics he sent me (Tigs at 22-25, Scherzer on the block, other starters not performing) -- I think Ilitch would greenlight just about any move there involving those guys.

You're not off-base bro, but I wrote a guide of sorts and PistolPete added it to the first post, if you think you need a refresher.

EDIT: You can also interject if you think the Astros give up too much or something, the idea is to help the player in his franchise make a fair deal without ripping himself or the CPU off given the situation.

RE: Negotiations involving Ryan Dempster and other players

        June 3, 2012

As we enter June, let me first say, congratulations on your big lead in the AL Central! Too early to say anything for sure, but it looks like the best Cleveland can do is shoot for the wildcard, unless they make some big changes fast. But I notice that you've had some injuries to your pitching staff (shame about losing Smyly for a couple of months--he was throwing well!), the back end of your rotation really hasn't been getting the job done, and it looks like you may be trying to trade Scherzer. As you know, we've had a bit of a tough year, and playing at a .333 clip isn't getting us anywhere. So we've made the difficult decision to start looking toward the future, and deciding who fits with our plans and who doesn't. I will forward you more information shortly, I just wanted to get the ball rolling by gauging your general interest in Ryan Dempster, as we've decided to give Travis Wood a shot at the rotation. Ryan hasn't had the best year so far (2-5, 4.85 ERA in 10/11 starts), but as a veteran pitcher who has been through a few battles, could certainly help you in your playoff run. Our needs are mainly for younger players, so a straight Dempster-for-prospect deal would be fine (our main needs are C & 2b, and SP & OF to a lesser extent), but we would also be interested in augmenting your already impressive lineup with another veteran or two--Geovanny Soto might make a nice, dependable backup catcher for you, and Alfonso Soriano could fit into your plans as a DH/right handed power bat (we could certainly talk about eating some of his salary), Reed Johnson and David DeJesus could be discussed--or one of our veteran relief pitchers--Carlos Marmol, since being removed from the closer's role, has pitched well in middle relief. We could also discuss one or two of our younger prospects, like RP Tony Zych or CF Matthew Szcur, if you wanted to talk about a larger deal involving two or three prospects on your end. Let me know if you are interested in discussing this matter further.

Derek Oja, Special Assistant to Theo Epstein & Jed Hoyer (They would have contacted you themselves, but they're off partying on a yacht on the Lake...)

        ---------------------------------------------------------

Ok, I know you Tigers guys need more specifics (records, player performances, ask for specific prospects, etc) but I'm away from my ps3 for the evening and am stuck at the point where I really need to start rebuilding these Cubbies, and I figured I'd see what kind of interest there might be. I'll throw in more specifics later, but basically, Verlander is great, 2 of your other guys are great (can't remember which), but everyone else the Tigers have trotted out in the 4 or 5 spot has either gotten killed or hurt. Scherzer is on the Trading Block (I'm doing 30 team, they haven't tried to trade him yet), Smyly (and one of the other younger pitchers) got big time hurt, and the Tigers in my franchise are the ONLY team in early June that lists "SP" as a need. So, I will throw more specifics at you when I can, but basically, what, if any, kind of deal can you see the Tigers making for Dempster? Soto and Soriano are yours to be had if you want them, and any of the other players I mentioned, too. I'll try to analyze whether the Tigers in my universe need them or not--I did add VMart to the 40 man at some point, but I left it up to them to promote him or not, don't know who else has been hurt, etc. I know Prince & Miggy are tearing it up. More specifics to come.
I saw this and haven't forgotten derelict, but you were going to get back with more info on what the teams were doing, right? That near 5.00 era on Dempster is quite scary...

                Hello,
I hope that your organization had a good offseason. You guys had a great series against the Rangers, they were tough. They beat us also, so we know how you feel, but they got upset by the Cardinals in the 2011 World Series. Great signing with Prince, you guys probably have the best corner infield with him and Cabrera! To get to the point of this email, We were inquiring about Jacob Turner. We like his stuff. Even though He had a tough time after his callup with a 8.53 era in his only 3 games of the 2011 season, we believe he has the stuff to be a star in the big leagues for years to come. We would like you to send us a deal for what you are asking for, and we can negotiate from there.

                Sincerely,
Kirk Plum, GM TAMPA BAY RAYS

I did send you more info, but it got buried, it's post 173, here's a link:

                  http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043700386

But now reading it I see that I forgot to give Dempster's exact stats (the numbers I originally gave were from my head, so they weren't exact), so:
                  12 gp, 3-6, 5.08, 12 gs, 5 qs, 1 cg, 67.1 IP, 7 hra, 62k, 21 bb, 1.40, .277 vs rh, .271 vs lh (3-0 at Wrigley, 2-4 away)

The last 3 starts have been brutal, 1-2, 14 ip, 10 R, 9 ER; three weeks ago he threw a gem against the White Sox, 8.1, 8h, 2er, 5k, 2bb, at at that point his era stood at 4.38 and he had 5 qs out of his first 9 starts, so it's really been a bad 3 week stretch. Other players stats: Maholm is 3-5, 3.86, 6/11 qs; Marmol is 0-1, 3.00, 13/16 sv; Reed Johnson is .198/.221/.222, 0hr, 5 rbi, 2sb; I can give you minors stats on some of the other guys, etc.

But the fact you didn't see my second, informational post points out that we're going to need some kind of organizational system around here--was that NYYankees with the color coding idea? Don't know if that fixes the problem, but we're building up some posts here, and since you, pokerplaya, are at the center of both building our universe AND several trade offers for you specifically, it's easy to see how even someone who is sure they've read EVERY post can miss something. And no worries or hurries, I'm not moving too fast in my franchise at this point.

Not necessarily that I didn't see it, more that I remembered I had two long posts and wasn't exactly sure if *I* had posted.

At this point, there were quite a few people that didn't know how to bold, to try to introduce a color scheme and then have it followed doesn't have a chance of working on the internet.

I'll take a look at all the posts again in the next 24hours or so -- lot of information build up after the long weekend... and to be honest -- I've never been that personally wowed with Dempster. He's been solid this year and all, but he's never been someone that I've said "wow, I want him on my squad." -- I'll look deeper, though -- for sure.

I will look into your idea when I get back to my office tonight, but I would indicate up-front that Turner would require a kings ransom, as we regard him as the jewel of our minor league system. I think any deal that would interest our organization would greatly impact your ability to win now, without looking at any specifics.

We are looking for an "A" Prospect 2nd baseman... I'm not looking at rosters at the moment. The Raburn/Santiago platoon is not currently working for me...

I will look into your idea when I get back to my office tonight, but I would indicate up-front that Turner would require a kings ransom, as we regard him as the jewel of our minor league system. I think any deal that would interest our organization would greatly impact your ability to win now, without looking at any specifics.

Thank you for your quick response. Please, once you get back to your office, shoot us an email. We would like to know what we are looking at for him. We believe we have a strong team, as evidenced by our recent playoff appearances, and our recent World Series appearance. We believe we have the depth to be able to give you a fair offer, but would like you to tell us what you are looking for, that way we can negotiate with you guys or decide if now isn't the right time for a move. Please send us an offer as soon as possible, and we wish you the best of luck as the season is starting this week!

                                Best regards,
Kirk Plum, GM AND PRESIDENT OF TB RAYS
