We were just wondering if you had come with an offer yet? We might be willing to part with James Shields, but we would have to gain another top prospect in return. (ie Mat Latos trade. The Reds traded their top prospect, with their 3rd best, one of their other top prospects, and Volquez, who is a good 3-5 in a rotation.

We appreciate your response and can understand that you don't 100% agree with our trade proposal.

We also like your counter offer but we, as an organization don't feel like the proposal is exactly where we want it. We like Upton and Rymes but with us willing to give up so much potential in Bourn, Minor, and Vizcaino. We feel like where not getting much in return being that were giving so much in return. There is a lot of potential in our offer.

Burke Bradenhop holds a 3-1 record in 30 Games and has 32 SO in 44.0IP

We also have strong interest in SS Sean Rodriguez, but we feel like you are not willing to part ways with him.

so here is our Counter Offer

      Atlanta Receives:
      CF B.J. Upton
      2B Will Rymes
      RP Burke Badenhop

      Tampa Receives:
      CF Michael Bourn
      SP Mike Minor
      RP Arodys Vizcaino
      To: Atlanta Braves GM
      From: Tampa Bay Rays GM

RE: Upton & Bourn counter offer

We would be willing to part ways with Bradenhop, as we will get a prospect who has a much higher ceiling, and is much younger. We believe Upton and Rhymes is a fair trade for Bourn, since Bourn is struggling. You receive a good CF, who hasnt reached his ceiling, but his ceiling might be a little below Bourns. We believe Bradenhop for Minor and Vizcaino is a good deal, because you can get a pitcher that helps you guys out now, while we receive a guy that can take the reigns from Farnsworth at closer, and we receive a strikeout pitcher in Minor. Minor is also in a better situation here, since you guys have so mich top talent pitching. He has more room to grow here, without being the odd man out, like he would be in your organization. Since we are towards the worst in the league in Ks, he will help out. He also might give us enough ammo, so that we can unload Shields, as this is his final year, and we don't think we will have the budget to resign him. We gladly accept your offer.

      TB receives:
      Bourn
      Minor
      Vizcaino

      Atl receives:
      Upton
      Bradenhop
      Rhymes

It has been a pleasure dealing with you, and we hope to do business with you in the future.

      Best regards,
Kirk Plum, GM AND PRESIDENT, TB RAYS

          Re: Kyle Farmsworth now available!!!

We would like to inform all teams that since the blockbuster trade that we did, acquiring Bourn, Minor, and Vizcaino, that CP Kyle Farnsworth is now available. He had a great 2011 with 25 saves and a 2.18 era. Vizcaino will now be taking over the reigns at CP. we believe any contender NEEDS to make this trade, as he will be a tremendous help, as he is an imposing figure coming out of the bullpen. We would be interested in a young catcher, since are starting catcher is Jose Molina. He is serviceable, but he is 36. All interested teams send us offers as soon as possible, becuae this hot commodity won't last long!

Sure, I can see the possibility of my Cubs trading for, not so much Bourn, but Jurrjens (real life aside, his numbers in the game aren't bad; he could be a good reclamation project; and I'm probably not gonna have to pay top dollar for him at this point), but unless you address a trade offer to a specific club, I guess we're all just going to look at it and basically say, "Well, I don't immediately see a need for that guy, so I guess I just won't do anything," whereas if you make a specific offer to the Cubs (in my instance) of Bourn and/or Jurrjens, then I would feel personally responsible to respond, even if the answer was no. I'm not even sure if the open-ended way I offered Dempster to the Tigers was the right way to do it--it might turn out to be easiest if the starting point is an actual offer, which can then be accepted, turned down, or negotiated from that starting point. I guess we'll see how it develops. I guess we'll see what the Tigers have to say on the matter...

We're still figuring out how this thing works; soon enough I think a set of procedures, if not straight rules, will come into focus.
I think that was more the problem with me trying to figure out how to respond to your Demspter inquiry... and also another reason why it isn't a bad thing to have multiple representatives for each team. I feel obligated to respond to it, even though he isn't someone I would pursue with the Tigers.. in your instance and without looking back I think I remember you said Drew Smyly was severely injured, at least 2 months of rehab... but with the Tigers organizational depth I'd just say.. Adam Wilk, Jacob Turner, Andy Oliver, Paulino.. all guys that the team WOULD start, even if it was only a spot start, or a provisional few start stretch. I don't see the Tigers paying a big price to bring in a guy who if I recall correctly was 2-5 with a 4.88 ERA at the time of the negotiation in your franchise... it's all subjective, but I guess that is part of the fun in it.

For instance, I have negotiations at least being spoken of with the Rays right now. One, he has asked about Jacob Turner, and told me to look at the Rays roster and tell what I'd be interested in... when in actuality, I don't think the Tigers are ever going to think of trading Turner at this point -- and if they did the cost would be so prohibitive that most teams wouldn't do it. I'll still look at the roster -- but I'm going to have to make a huge offer to really show what I think the Tigers would consider.

Which is what I think for most teams... if you're going to get the jewel of a team's minor league system, you're going to pay through the nose...

I think it also depends on what you're giving up. The reds gave up their crown jewel and some other top prospects for mat Latos. They had Joey votto blocking him, so it was a trade that made sense. The tigers have Cabrera blocking nick c., and they have lots of MLB sp depth, which kind of blocks turner. I'm not saying they would do a deal, but it makes more sense if a player is blocked. Also in the tigers case, they could get another ace like shields, who could help them win now, because a lot of their stars are in their late 20s to thirties. They only have so much time they can win with them.

Well, I'm trying to think from the perspective of Dombrowski, and I know he covets a swing-and-miss lefty... so obviously he'd love to acquire David Price (and so would I) but by the same token I am willing to acknowledge that they would move Castellanos, or at very least I think they are going to convert him to second base full time, at least through all the rumors and talk I hear around Detroit.

This is where it gets kind of hairy... we as representatives are only supposed to work with the PLAYERS of individual franchises to make sure their deals are fair... making them for the player isn't really part of the deal and it's a lot to ask of each representative.

Not saying that I MIND PERSONALLY... just trying to clarify what this was originally supposed to be about -- and that's not ripping off the CPU when you go to trade with them in YOUR franchise. Saying "What do you want from my franchise" isn't really supposed to be deal... make up the package and then propose it to the other team, then you have somethin concrete to negotiate...

Or say "I'm looking for THIS position, in this organizational setup" like I did when I "shopped" Nick C. last night... I would have never expected the Rays to answer, considering their active depth chart lists a Tiger from last year at the top of their 2B depth (Rhymes)... Zobrist is someone I've looked at, but the Tigers would NOT trade Castellanos for him.

Just using it as example (so don't get sore at me msuboy11):

On the whole Jacob Turner trade... you want me to come back to you with an offer. I never proposed trading him, that isn't what I'm supposed to do representing the Tigers. I'm supposed to tell you if a trade is fair when you go to make a trade with the Tigers in YOUR individual franchise.

Now, last night when I put feelers out about Castellanos, that was me as a Tigers PLAYER and not their representative, trying to make a deal in my own franchise. That's the one area of my franchise lineup that I'm trying to shore up is second base.

Just trying to clear things up... this thread wasn't intended to be a full-scale "GM Mode" -- we're just supposed to be helping people make fair trades so they get a HUMAN perspective from the team they are trading with, rather than relying on CPU logic. At least that was the original intent.

We know that we could trade Zobrist, but we have the feeling that may not be enough. We have recently put Farnsworth on the block, but you guys might not need him as much since you have Benoit and Valverde. Carlos Pena could also be had at the right price, but considering you have Fielder and Martinez, you probably don't need him either. We would be open to the possibility of trading Shields, but you'd have to give us more. Please get back to us as soon as possible!

We are contacting you to let you know that we are interested in JP Arencibia. We currently have a 36 year old out of shape catcher behind the plate, so we need to upgrade. We would gladly negotiate with you for him, since you have D'Arnaud waiting in the wings. He is currently hitting .462 at AAA ball, so he is going to get called up soon. We will get the negotiations started.

                            Arencibia
                            Henderson Alvarez

                            Blue Jays receive:
                            Kyle Farnsworth

This may be a little steep price, but it is a starting point.

                            Best regards,
Kirk Plum, GM OF TB RAYS

RE: Jeremy Hellickson on the Block

We realize it is still early in the season, as it is only the 2nd week on May, but we noticed your organization has placed Hellickson on the trading block. We have a high interest in him and feel we can give ou a fair deal. Currently your team sits 7 games back of the Sox in the division, and 4 games back in the wildcard behind the yankees. We noticed your team has been struggling at the plate, hitting only .240 so far this year, good for 27th in the league. We also noticed your team your team is actively searching for a 2nd baseman and catcher. We feel we can offer you a good deal that would benefit both sides. Currently Hellickson sits at 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP, 18 K's, and 15 BB's. We also notcied that Jose Molina, the catcher who has the most AB's on your team, was just placed on the DL. Also, Keppinger, your main 2nd baseman currently, is hitting below .200 with over 100 AB's so far. We are willing to offer you a trade that goes as follows:

                              Pirates Give:
2B Neil Walker - .211 1 HR 8 RBI. Although Neil's stats aren't superb, he is starting to heat up at the plate, currently with a 9 game hit streak and is hitting .372 in his last 10 games with 1 HR and 7 RBIs.
C Rob Barajas - .250 1 HR 7 RBI. Rob has primarily been are backup since we traded for Arencibia, and he still manages to boast a .472 slugging percentage. He still has much pop in his bat, and we think a change of scenery could benefit him.
RP Tony Watson - At only 26, Watson has been very solid for us in our farm system. He has a C potential and has a 3.00 ERA in 12.0 IP with 5 K's and 2 BB's. You have also made it clear you're in need of RP, and we feel Watson can be solid for you and is almost MLB ready right now.

                              Rays Give:
SP Jeremy Hellickson - As stated before, you have put him on the block and made it clear you want a 2nd basemen, Catcher, and a RP. We can offer you all those things and we can plug Jeremy into our rotation right away.
SS Tim Beckham - Tim is what we are looking for in SS for our future, and even though he is hitting .300 in AA we think we are giving enough to receive him in return, plus with Hak Ju Lee waiting in the wings we think Tim would benefit in a different organization.

Feel free to counter offer if you feel necessary.

                              -The Pittsburgh Pirates

I am really excited to start my Franchise so I can start getting involved in this process more. It's nice to finally see trades that make sense and aren't completely ridiculous. Great job so far guys, it has been awesome reading all the proposals and responses so far.
