Templated Offers -- BAD and GOOD
    ***BAD***

Yo, Detroit -- what ya'll think is realistic for Austin Jackson? I'm playing with the Cubs. We're interested in almost all of your players really, but everyone good or an A prospect in our roster is obviously, off limits -- but otherwise, please feel free to take your pick.

Not templated, and you want the rep to make your trade for you. Make an offer.

    ***GOOD***

    To: Detroit Tigers Organization
    From: Chicago Cubs Organization

    RE: Turner/Rizzo Negotiation

We are interested in your young pitching prospect, Jacob Turner.

    Cubs Offer:

    Anthony Rizzo, A Potential

    Detroit Gives:

    Jacob Turner, A Potential

Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear back from you with any thoughts or counters you may have to this trade!

    ---

Further information regarding ages, and statistics in your universe that allow the representative to make an educated trade based on what is happening IN YOUR universe are, of course, welcomed. Please just use the template, actually make offers, and provide enough info that your representative can look at the thread and decide what he wants to do... remember, they aren't paid workers, they are volunteers who just love baseball too.

    THANK YOU.

Re: OS Arbitration Panel Project 2012

Also, BWoodring reminded me (thank you) that we do unfortunately need to fill the vacancy left on the Tampa Bay Rays for a representative. If anyone is interested, we'd love to have you.

I'm also taking this opportunity to appoint a "council" for this project for those times I am unable to be here. These have all been dedicated people from the start on the thread, so please follow their lead if something should happen and I am not available. Thank you.

Arbitration Panel Project 2012 - Council

      NoFatGirlz4Me37
      Bwoodring9
      NYYankees42
      DerelictOjama
      ACMilan1999

I assumed you would all be interested in helping out - if you aren't, that's fine too. You've all basically acted in this capacity anyways and have all stayed in communication with me at some point -- just want it to be official so there's far less chance of the thread falling into possible disorder.

This is all I have -- I assume everything should be business-as-usual for the project at this point. Thanks to those like BWoodring who helped point out some things I'd missed in getting things back on track.

      Happy trading, all!

Re: OS Arbitration Panel Project 2012

First of all, pokerplaya, everything you said, seconded, put up for vote, all yeas, it all passes (I suppose I don't speak for everyone, but I see no reason for things not to go that way). I accept a place on the council, and I think it looks good. I do not need to be; if I prove less useful than another, I'll gladly cede anything, just so this works well. Good job keeping cool, all, and let's learn what we learned and move on. I tend to think we should avoid off-topic posts as much as possible, but at this moment I felt like I could jump in and say a few things:

--trading block was a good idea that just was too wide open; the same thing can be accomplished, CAREFULLY, by looking at your franchise universe, and sending specific proposals to multiple teams INDIVIDUALLY. You are the Astros, you have Carlos Lee (and he can't exercise his no-trade clause on you!), so you can say, hey Dodgers, will you give me Zach Lee? And hey, Yankees, will you give me Manny Banuelos? So, one says yes, one says no, you go with the yes; they both waver, you sweeten the deal, or take a slightly lesser guy or a bad contract, you work out your deal. You've still shopped your player some, but you've done it in a way that put the work on you, and kept the thread from getting confusing and making people think, "Am I supposed to do something here?"

--hence the template thing: sometimes I troll this forum all day and night; sometimes I work 100 hour weeks and can barely spare 5 minutes a day here. But if that's all I've got to spare, I promise you, I will come here, hit "next unread post" or whatever and at least quickly scan things. Thus, a bold To: The Chicago Cubs Organization will catch my eye, and I'll at least know I have something to do, even if I can't get to it right then; I'm sure a lot of us are like that. So the template system is not a rule for a rule's sake; it's for ease of use for all of us. The first rule of the Arb Panel is to use the template; the second rule of the Arb Panel is to use the template... if you get me.

--with the understanding that we are all over the place in our own worlds (me in 2013, now in August; pokerplaya dragging along, playing every pitch for a decade--hehe--fun following it!; others waiting for Scott's rosters to drop--god bless that guy! hope there aren't heat or storm related blackouts wherever he is!), know that as the real baseball season moves along, and we see what's happening, things can change. A deal that would have looked unlikely a month ago--Matt Garza to the Braves, for instance--is now a RL rumor, if not reality, so, hey, I'd say, don't be afraid to ask for what you want; even if you get a no at first, a yes might be just a few games away, depending on the way the ball bounces. I know we've had discussions about what we don't see happening--the Trouts and Harpers changing hands--but I think if we look at what happens IRL over the next month, we will all see some trades that will make us on this thread want to say, "What? I never would have OK'd that deal!" So, fantasy, reality, these are fuzzy things; one general principle I've learned, never say never, except when you want to point out that you should never say never.

--and finally, I know this is silly, but in my little fantasy world, I'm pretending that I'm waiting for Frank Wren to call me, and we're going to try to work a deal. Oh, wait, there he is, hold on... (Hey, Frank, I was expecting to hear from you... hold on just a sec, I got some guys on the other line...) Well, there you go. Let's make some deals, and have some fun, guys! (All right, I'm back, Frank. Tell me, how is Arodys's rehab going?)

            To: Phillies
            From: Giants
            Subject: Chase Utley

Starting a new chise with Scott's rosters and after the drop off in your overall record and your willingness to shed salary, we are wondering whether you would be willing to make a deal for Utley.

Here's an offer that we can start from:
            Phillies give:
            Utley

            Giants give:
            SP Kyle Crick (B Pot)
            SP Clayton Tanner (C pot)
            RF Nate Schierholtz

OOC: I'm just a bit confused here. You said our record is dropping, but you haven't started your franchise yet because of Scott's roster. I get that the Phillies are a train wreck in real life right now, but unless they are doing just as poorly in YOUR franchise, I don't think the Phillies will start unloading contracts. With that, to my GM voice:

If we are struggling, Utley would probably not be one of the first players we would move. Despite his health struggles, the fans in Philadelphia absolutely adore him. If our record is as bad as you say it is, the Philadelphia fans will be upset, and moving Utley would make them even more angry. Hamels, Victorino, and Domonic Brown would be the first to be moved if we are struggling, and Brown would probably be traded even if we aren't doing poorly. We can see Utley being dealt down the road, but unless we are overwhelmed with an offer right now, Chase probably won't be moved.

                  Respectfully,
                  THE Philadelphia Phillies

Ok, I guess that makes sense, but Utley wouldn't be moved if we're struggling. If we are struggling in YOUR franchise by July, feel free to contact us if you're interested in Hamels, Victorino, or maybe Brown. I personally think Victorino would make a lot of sense for your team with its lack of offense.

Yes, it can still be accomplished -- just through the framework of offers. It was far too open-ended and reps were having to do way too much work.

Yeah, the template is there to draw attention to the posts as being a negotiation, and not just normal discussion.

And that's the biggest part of the thread... being able to get a human look no matter how far you have advanced!
I'm just an old guy sports gamer...

I believe that we can reach a deal here as Joel Hanrahan would certainly bolster our bullpen and Matusz is expendable in my eyes. I propose the following:

                              Orioles receive:
                              Joel Hanrahan

                              Pirates receive:
                              Brian Matusz
                              Mychal Givens
                              Tyler Townsend

With Machado/Hardy at SS and the plethora of potential first basemen we have we feel as if we can comfortably trade away both Givens and Townsend.

Thanks for your response. I think we're pretty close. We really had our eye on Strop. Would you be willing to swap him for Townsend? If McGehee were added, would you do a combo of Strop/Wheeler/Givens?

                                Best,
