Re: MLB 13 The Show Wishlist

Presentation needs a big facelift, and one aspect of that to me is playoff atmosphere.

Having just won my 2nd consecutive World Series less than 10 minutes ago, I came here simply to complain about how lame the celebration is each time. Here is what I'd like to see.....

-- More crowd cutaways of them going nuts as each out counts closer. Show a replay of fans high-fiving eachother and erupting when 3 outs left goes to 2 outs.

-- Show player reactions after the final out. Just like they do in real life, show a replay of the fielder standing there, and then the fielder jumping and run in to the doggy pile. They have done this in the real life WS wins for many, many years now.

-- Show the WS MVP getting the award, show a clubhouse celebration with campagne, show a player being interview postgame, maybe even getting a pie in the face. Show the camera crew rushing the field.

-- Maybe a little more excitement from the broadcast booth? I want to hear "And the White Sox are 3 outs away from winning the World Series!" or maybe some numbers and stats directly tied to the WS or postseason, like "ALCS MVP Adam Dunn looks to continue his hot streak in the World Series" or "Making his first World Series appearance, Chris Sale looks like shut down the xxxxx" It seems all we hear is them announce we won the WS, and then silence......

-- Another really cool, but little more complex idea would be to have a pop-up window appear 3-4 days after the World Series win and say "The World Series parade is about to start, would you like to stop simulating?" and when you say yes, it takes you to a virtual parade down Michigan Avenue of the players on buses with the World Series trophy, confetti falling, mass amounts of fans on the streets. Now this idea would require making several different versions of a city street to represent the markets, but it would be absolutely awesome to see it.

When I saw the commercials for this game, especially the one where the Cubs win the WS and the fan is crying, I expected that to mean they ramped up their presentation of the WS. But no. It's just as lame as it was in years past. I've heard Madden's celebration is pretty awesome, and NHL does a decent job of this, but The Show really lacks in presentation, and since the WS is the biggest excitement of all, it needs to be done up properly. Make me FEEEEEL like I am actually in the World Series.

Another thing they should add to the game is Draft Workouts. Kinda like NBA 2K Interviews but workouts so like BP, fielding drills, etc..

Don't know if these ideas have been suggested before, but I would like if you were able to set your online rosters ahead of time for righties , lefties and nl ballparks so you don't have to do it everytime you play a game. Also it would be cool if I could press the r2 button to go talk to my pitcher when he's struggling to find the strike zone.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Wishlist

Building on the Free Agency remarks, I think that aspect of Franchise needs a major overhaul.

First off, the process has changed in real life (beginning with this offseason, by the way): http://tinyurl.com/d3xfupn

          That should all be implemented.

Second, maybe I need someone to explain FA to me in the game because I don't get it. Most of the premiere, true FAs never explore their options, for one; so you never have a chance to sign a big name and get that last piece or that building block.

Then, when they actually do entertain offers, the meters mean absolutely nothing. Just about every one of those guys sign with their original team, regardless of the meter. I once had it almost full for a top pitcher (I want to say Lincecum) and it was there for at least a week, well ahead of the other teams interested. The other two clubs were both below the halfway point. And he signed with his original team anyway.

I think there needs to be more interaction during free agency. More counter offers or something. Maybe a chance to change your offer or better the other team's. A message saying "so-and-so is now leaning toward an offer of xx yrs and $xx" maybe? I've had a lot of times where nothing changes for days and then all of a sudden the guy signs somewhere else for no reason.

Also, maybe a hot stove menu during the season or something to indicate who will likely be available in the offseason or who will likely re-sign. That way you know what your options might be and what you can do with your club (say you want to move a player under contract, but need to fill that spot in the offseason, you know that a guy might be available). That happens in real life, that a player says he wants to explore free agency or that he wants to stay where he is. Then the other clubs have an idea of whether or not they should make room for a possible addition.

Free Agency needs some help; maybe we can see it for 2013?

            My two cents..

            1. Broadcasting
SCEA has nearly everything down pat in MLB 12 The Show, the gameplay is spot on, the cutscenes/presentations are excellent, the modes are great, my only gripe is its commentary, an aspect that is in dire need of overhaul. As for the real broadcast packages, I think SCEA should do what EA Sports did for Madden 13, go out and sign a deal with FoxSports for the game's presentation elements.

            2. Road to the Show
You have no idea how much I despise the goal advancement system. To put it simply, your Triple Crown/Gold Glove/perennial MVP candidate should not be benched in favor of a D-potential 28 year old batting .170 because he failed his goals.

            3. Franchise mode
The 1 year contracts drive me crazy, I would agree with everything you said here.

            4. Diamond Dynasty
Not a fan of this, I guess any changes to the mode won't really affect me.

            5. Rosters
To be perfectly honest, roster makers in the community always make better rosters than the roster editors in the actual game company.

My wish is for the RTTS , Goals , Training, Crazy Player Trades get rid of them. Have a higher base skill set number for all position players then let your on field actions determine the rest of your skill set numbers, let these numbers and your on the field stats mean a lot more for the team you are with ( long term success or not ) Giving you more power to negotiate a better contract .

Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth! The game needs way more customization. Every player just feels the same IMO. If there was one thing 2k did well, it was customization. I also want the ability to give my RTTS player a giant Brian Wilson beard, not some scrawny beard.

The Show has a lot of the little things about baseball right. I would like too see some things different since the consumers have only one option for there baseball fix in 2013 and the unknown future.

                  1) Better pitching throw animations, because right now they just look awkward when u are throwing too the plate.
                  2) The commentary is still stale, they really need too upgrade and look at how the MLB2K series has done there's.
                  3) Presentation, it has gotten better over the years, but they still behind the 8 ball on this one and really need too focus on added too the immersion. Especially close too the end of the game and if its close.
                  4) Stats, just seeing the previous years stats aren't cool in my opinion. They need too showcase the players whole career. Also show more in-game stats and comparisons between players.

Thanks for the input. Another thing I thought of for the wishlist is fix ALL the uniform issues. A couple main ones I can think of is the Nationals road uni, they should have red socks/undershirt, not blue. And the rangers home alternate should have red undershirt/socks/helmet, not blue

Re: MLB 13 The Show Wishlist

I'm a big offline Franchise player. And I agree with Free Agency problems... but even more so, I hate the trade logic. I'm in the offseason right now... I have been so frustrated with stupid trades, that I've turned CPU trades off. But in the offseason, they still trade. As a matter of fact, in one day, the Angels traded literally all but 3 players in their starting lineup in one day.
Got Beachy for Bunday, Granderson for Bourjos, Ackley for Howie Kendrick, Hederson Alvarez for Nick Maronde, Josh Tomlin for Henderson Alvarez, Jered Weaver for Max Scherzer, Alex Gordon for 3 minor leaguers, Brett Gardner for Fleix Pie and 2 minor leaguers, Bryce Harper for 3 minor leaguers, Matt Harvey for a minor leaguer, Brett Wallace for 3 minor leaguers, Mark Rogers for Garrett Richards, Michael Pineda for Mark Rogers, Clayton Kershaw for Zack Greinke, Jesus Guzman for 3 minor leaguers, Eric Hosmer for Brett Wallace.
That's all in one day. Then In the next 5 days traded away 4 of those SP's only to get one of them back a couple days after, and traded Harper for Stubbs.
They still have Trout in CF... plus Granderson and Stubbs. Plus 3 great left fielders as well.

A few things need done with this trade logic. Teams shouldn't trade for All Star players in positions that are already filled on their team by another All Star. ESPECIALLY National League teams. There's no need for that. The CPU needs to be smarter about the trades they are making. Especially when it's just a Cy Young candidate traded for another Cy Young candidate. You didn't change anything. You just swapped players. (Sure, there are times this makes sense in age or contract situations... but this isn't like that)

It's dumb when All Star players get 230 at bats in a season because the Yankees were the only team with cap room to trade to.

Which brings me to more Free Agency issues...

Unlike the one person who was frustrated with players staying with their original team... most players DO resign with their original team. Not every offseason will have Pujols and Fielder. Does Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke really compare to Pujols and Fielder? Not really. BUT... I'd like to think I could offer my short stop a little less money than the next guy and he would be loyal to me. (IF the team is doing well. I'd completely understand if the team wasn't winning.)

Deciding a players salary needs work. It shouldn't be based on Overall. It should factor in the position, and certain skill sets. Power equals bigger paychecks. Speed doesn't. I got guys who are hitting .246 on my bench asking for 3.5M. That figure is outrageous. That doesn't happen unless you're a veteran. I understand the defensive short stop who doesn't hit well getting 3 to 5 million a year... but not a 25 yr old (C pot) player who has never gotten more than 200 at bats in a season. So if the contract salary has to depend on the overall... just make speed less of an impact on the overall of a player. It truly only makes sense. I mean, Joey Gathright was super fast.. but couldn't get on base to use it. So what good is it? Speed doesn't make a bad player good, just a good player better. It shouldn't have a large impact on a player. The result could be cool... having players in the minors who actually can run. Minor leaguers should be able to field and run better than they can. I got guys hitting .400 in triple A that I can't bring up because they're slow CF's or horrible defending infielders. Big money comes from big offense. A small market team could put together a real nice defensive speedy team (like the Rays do) if we could get these contracts to not be swollen. A 3 year shortstop with a career AVG of .268 wants 10.3M from me this year. I understand he's A potential... but I think around 6M would be just fine. (Not that I'd pay that either... I'm being forced to let him go because I'm playing with the Pirates and he's not McCutchen or Alvarez.) But I'm just saying he's not worth that much.

Also with contracts... front load, back load, even... all those options should be added in.

Also... why can't we sign these players to contract extensions before their contract expires? This would help the 1 yr contract problem that a lot of you brought up. You'd be able to work out extensions for players you would be afraid of losing. It would also give you a feel for how much that player is going to be asking for in the offeason... had I known this SS was going to ask for 10M... I would have traded him at the deadline to get a return for him. Even though I was in first place, I had Josh Rutledge and Josh Harrison on the bench who could have gotten me through the back half of the year. When you're playing with a small market team, those things just have to be done sometimes. It's not like that player was a difference maker. He was hitting .268 at the deadline... ended at .279.

It's the logic of the game that makes this stuff not work. If the Yankees have 6 all star caliber starting pitchers... they wouldn't go after a 7th.. they'd go after the best reliever. Or a catcher who's better than Martin or something.

Also with the trades, usually 2 or 3 trades are made before July. It was a shocker to hear about the Boston and Chicago trade this year. Because it happened so early. Yet, this game there are trades all season. No one waits for the last minute to see who's buying and who's selling. They just trade all star for all star. It just doesn't happen much. It's usually all star for future all star.

This, to me, is much more frustrating than having different commentators for each team. By the way, a more realistic idea for doing that is having a set for AL games and a different set for NL games. This way it's only 2 different ones. Or maybe even one set for Regular Season and a different set for Postseason games. Kinda like the Joe Buck idea.. but he is more fitting for those big game atmospheres. Personally, I love Matty V. I think his voice is perfect for a video game because it sounds more natural. Madden commentating gets worse every year. I actually miss John Madden. haha. With that said, I agree that Matty V is getting tired on us all. Maybe just have him do the postseason this year or regular season.. this way they only have to do one more pair of voices. But Dave Campbell has got to go. For real! lol

Offline Franchise is what makes this game the best game in the world, imo. I've tried Out of the Park Baseball. It's good... and in depth.. but I wanna see more visuals and be able to play games. That's what MLB the Show has.

Also... I wanna see box scores in the postseason. When I'm playing more of a GM franchise and I only want to play deciding games or w/e... I wanna see what's going on so I can know how to set my lineup if I need to make a change.
Also, in box scores, more in depth. Let me know when it says HR: McCutchen, Walker, Alvarez 2
Gimme more like HR: McCutchen (15), Walker (9), Alvarez 2(20,21)

I'm not asking to say what inning and how many on and off what pitcher... just gimme the total. Let me know he has 85 RBI's after those 2. I dunno.

                      I'm done for tonight.

Commentary certainly needs upgrading. It's extremely repetitive and stale and just uninteligent.

Situational awareness on defense! I swear the next time my outfielder takes his sweet time getting the ball back in when a baserunner is rounding 2nd or 3rd I might blow a gasket.

Have a more "connected" franchise mode. Have the players have agents and add general managers to the other teams.

For example, during the winter meetings, have a list for what you want and what you'll give up, and have GM's and agents contact you about acquisitions.

I think that would make franchise much more exciting.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Wishlist

IMHO, what I would love to see is some "life" in this game. I do love the game, but, it is just soooo clinical. What I mean is I want to see some dust fly off a glove when the ball is caught or when the ball hits the bat. Maybe some humidity in the air, some dirt or dust or gnats flying around. Baseball is a dirty game. This game seems so clean. I wanna see more emotion. Screaming after a huge game tying hit, or a clutch stolen base. See the 2012 Oakland A's for any reference you need.

I also wanna see some more of the "violence" of the game represented. By that I mean, the slow windup of a pitcher to the super fast whip action of his arm, or a batter coil then unleash a fast swing, hips first. Maybe a little camera shake on a hard swing and miss. Something. Some how, I want to feel what a catcher feels when someone is rounding third about to take them out. Maybe a new camera angle for close plays, something to heighten the moment. I think adding a little more to the running animations will help this too. Move the shoulders and the arms more. Make the guys really "dig" for that extra base. And to this point, I want a "sprint" button for fielders. I loved this in MVP 06.

I would also like to see pitches have different break points. What I mean by that is if a guy has a particularly nasty slider, dont just represent this by movement so it moves more, maybe have it break closer to the plate so it is harder to pick up. Same with fastballs. Make weak fast balls have its break at, lets say, 1/3 of the way to the plate. Then a better fastball, break or jump halfway to the plate. If its a great pitch, with nasty late break or a "second stage" maybe start its hop 2/3 to the plate. Then, you can base how much it moves from that break point. I think that would closer represent a pitchers true arsenal.

Although this last year was a big improvement, I still want to see better swing follow throughs on "normal" hits and more swing variety ala Pro Yakuu Spirits. Its the little things, like a lefty fighting off a nasty sinker from a righty, out on his front foot and flicking it just over the 3rd baseman. The little Ichiro run out on his swing. I would also like the camera to stay on the batter longer to see the ball off the bat after its hit. I really love this in PYS. Makes me feel like I really hit the ball and can track its flight and if its gunna be a double or triple out of the box.

Camera work is great, but, I would love to see the catcher and umpire when I zoom out from the behind the batter view. I would also like to see maybe a split screen view of the pitcher and a base runner when there is a really good baserunner on, like they do on tv, and only when your varying your look, like when your waiting him out. Obviously, if you are quick to the plate, you wont see that, but, a little cut to it when your really bearing down on him would be cool. Maybe show the pitcher taking a deep breathe, like hes worried about the runner. Also, I would like to see the pitchers head actually look over to a runner at second. I would also like to see some cut scenes to the crowd in a big game or situation. Bring that emotion out.

Well, Im sure there is more that have thought of through out the year, but, these are what come to mind right now. I can't tell how much I look forward to this game every year and how much time I devote to it. I even drove to another state one time to get it a little early. I think its a great product but, I do want to see some more improvement and I am glad we have this forum to discuss these things. Thanks for reading and your comments or discussion on these "ideas" are appreciated.

I play offline franchise almost exclusively, so that is where my wishlist focuses.

                              1) 25 man A roster which means

                              2) Longer draft rounds
2a) Rookie league / Arizona Fall league for select prospects
2b) Ability to assign new draft picks to A ball right away

                              3) Budget logic is screwed up. I always get about 6-8 years into a franchise and every team has hit the budget cap and trades are next to impossible to pull off
3a) If I have $1.2 billion in cash on hand, my budget can go above $198m

                              4) Create a stadium and relocation of teams (really just looking for custom field creation and choice between 2-3 generic sets of stands similar to Madden

                              5) Sign coaches and players to extensions mid year

                              6) Creation of a Top 100 prospects system for all of the ML players including a top 10 for each team

                              7) Viewable hall of fame with at least all of the players that are inducted during the franchise if rights for the older players cannot be obtained

                              8) Rain delays / rain outs

                              9) Scheduled double headers and makeup double headers for #8

Re: MLB 13 The Show Wishlist

Since MLB Network is the only channel I watch, it would be amazing if the only game I play had the same presentation style. It would add so much more realism to not only the game play but the menus as well. Speaking of menus, how about we get them to change the setup of the main menu. I mean, the list to the side and then team logos on the right? They could do so much with this menu. Maybe when you select your favorite team, the menu is on that team's scoreboard. And just change the overall set-up of the menu. Also, please please please switch from the bar to numerical ratings!

I think the overall game play both visually and the actual playing of the game is the best in all of sports gaming. The physics are true to real life and the controls cannot be improved because they are good right now. Would it be nice to see licensed products? Yes, but that would take more money which could damage another aspect of the game. I'm fine with generic products as long as they keep adding to the accessories and hair styles, like dreads, afros, faux hawks. As for accessories, maybe some more cleat styles, catcher's equipment, and different gloves/mitts.

My favorite mode is RTTS, it's the mode I play the most. And as a High School Varsity Catcher, I would want to be a catcher in my RTTS. But since the game forces the catcher to call every single pitch, of every single game, it is difficult to get through one week in the minor leagues, let alone a minor league career. It would be great if you only needed to play the plays that catchers are involved in. Bunts, pop-ups, steals, and maybe cut-offs/plays at the plate. Bunts, pop-ups, and steals sound straight forward, it could be played like an infielder, you only play the pitch you are involved in. As for cut-offs and plays at the plate, there could be a control scheme for catchers that make the lineup the cut-off, and block the plate depending on the runner's slide. Maybe with the right analog stick, you have to push it down and to the left to block the runner's hook slide.

Another thing that would make this game amazing is a Career mode. No, it is not RTTS because you would already be in The Show! Instead of creating yourself and starting in the minors, you would start as a current MLB player! Imagine playing as a Derek Jeter and finishing his Hall of Fame career, or guys like Miguel Cabrera, Josh Hamilton, Joe Mauer and play through the primes of their careers. I know that if I could play as my favorite player, Joe Mauer, I would never stop playing this game. Or playing as my hometown hero, David Wright trying to win that championship with the Metsies. Or you can go a different route and play as the young guns like a Harper, Trout or Strasburg. You would automatically be in the Major Leagues, and you would still play it as a RTTS, with the Training Points and Performance Evaluator.

When I'm not playing RTTS, I play Franchise mode. I usually end up playing as a terrible team and build them up through the draft, by scouting and trading for prospects. I think the scouting aspect can be improved. I also think the presentation of the menu should be changed to MLB.com and not a newspaper, this is the era where everything is on the internet and not many people read the newspaper as they once did. I liked being able to put different advertisements throughout my stadium, and actually seeing them! And when I install a hot tub, I want to see fans in a hot tub!
