The budget system is different this year. I think there is a better balance, but the amount of money you have to spend will be determined by the amount you want to invest in coaches/scouts and also your success in your franchise.

You have a shared payroll. So lets say the Braves start with 100million. If You only invest 5 million in all of your coaches and scouts(they will be bad) then you have 95 available for player payroll. If you are winning the budget goes up. if you lose the budget goes down.



I think the top tier players should demand a little more, but I feel the system as a whole is markedly better.

I took a team at one point that was small market and after renewals and arbitration could not sign any free agents because my budget was too tight.

Ok cool, yeah I'm just hoping the free agents/top tier players' salaries will be more accurate. By accurate, I don't mean correct to real life, but percentage wise, equivalent. I understand the different methods of spending the team budget, through a mix of scouting, player development and actual players. I'm just hoping that a free agent like B.J. Upton doesn't sign for 5 years/15 million, etc.

In my write up in CD impressions I hit on this. Although the system is not perfect its very ingenious. The cpu uses quality of league. If the FA list and available players is flooded with players of BJ Uptons ability and position, then they will offer and give less money.

Is the trade logic less absolutely absurd?

In the franchise video today, there was a "Cleveland trades RP B. Shaw, 2B R. Rayburn, to TOR for..." and it didn't show who.

Are the coaches/managers salaries more accurate? Last year you had to spend 5 mil to hire a decent manager.

Also did they fix the issue with coaches attribute effects - ie a hitting coach making a better pitching coach after he is fired and vice versa?

Ha! That's supply and demand at work! I don't understand your concern then, to be honest, but I didn't get to play around with it either...

I saw tabarnes mention in the impressions thread, I believe, that RP are still a little overvalued and he brought that up to them. Also, he said that some players get traded multiple times in the same seasion (though I could see that if a taxi squad type has no options left--think Brent Lillibridge last year--but I don't know if that was the case). tabarnes said it's cool if it is within a few days (like TEX getting Simmons and flipping him for Upton which never happened but was rumored) but they weren't or something. Otherwise, there was "significant" improvement. Hopefully I got that right.

I didn't have a concern with the system, I actually think its great. I just thought that contacts in general were a little on the light side comparable to ratings and potential. Again its all relative.

Yes. They are now separated by position, and will also display the winners from the three previous years.

Damn that I just gave him a big contract B.Harper wants 13 million a year. Or I can give him arbitration at 11.2. Somethings got to give.

russell's dilemma is exactly why the new scouting system is awesome and building a good farm system is imperative.

like the yankees this year you see how hard it is to make positive changes going forward if you are hampered by money issues.
having those cheap team control prospects in the wings is a must.
hence making it a priority to stock the farm with as many great prospects as possible..

There salaries to start are similar to what they were last year. It's when players are free agents, I would like to see the Elite Free Agent players get the 15million plus deal. When we were there some of the elite players were getting like 5-7million. Just didn't seem to be enough separation between the elite and the B and C guys, but like I said the Devs acknowledged they heard are concerns and would look into it so I'll have to see the final version to pass complete judgement. In the future years there were guys making 19mil a season so there will be those big deals...

Can't believe I forgot to ask about this... Knight/Heroes/Tabarnes - Regarding player potential and the age curve being reworked, say I have a 29 year old player who is a C potential and I edit him to a B overall... Will he stay a B until age 31? What about the opposite, where a B potential player in his prime is only a C overall, will he remain a C?

Well there is no longer a B or C player anymore It is all ratings based. That is a good question and I never tried it.

Even without being rated above the potential players don't automatically drop at 31, That may be the statistical average, but some may slip earlier and others later.

I wish I would have checked that specific question while there. Maybe Knight saw something?
