    Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries

Will CPU batters actually chase pitches as in real life? I can rarely get someone to go for a breaking ball in the dirt (and low sliders for that matter too, which is very very common in baseball). Or other pitches in the dirt, it happens so often during a regular MLB game I would have expected it to be in the game years ago. It can't be that hard to adjust the frequency of this.

Also will batters be able to hit balls well out of the zone, EVER? Its a shame that you cant hit balls at all really in the game as that is also very common. Give a contact penalty or something for balls swung at, but dont make balls at the ankles impossible to hit. They're not and many players are very adept and hitting pitchers well out of the zone and hit them very well.

      Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries

I think this is the proper thread for addressing the following issue/concern.

I think I know what Ramone Russell means when he says there is user control for the baserunner on pickoffs. He means during the initial leadoff time. The problem is, that in order for user control to work properly, the user needs full control from the initial leadoff till the pitch is thrown to homeplate.

What happens is that at random the game freezes the baserunner on the pickoff & nothing you press (the button to move the baserunner back to the base is the L1 [left shoulder] button) will unfreeze the baserunner. He will simply eventually "unfreeze" (something the CPU has total control over) and head back to the bag. If the pickoff thow is even somewhat accurate the baserunner will then be called out.

What would need to be changed (at least as a game option that a user can choose in the pregame) is where the baserunner does not move either off the bag or back to the bag unless the user presses the button to move him. This way if a baserunner is picked off, it is due to the user's fault rather than a random "game-freeze".

In truth I don't see why this would not be implemented. Look at it this way. Imagine if the game decided to randomly freeze an outfielder on a ball hit to him so that he could not chase the ball down. Wouldn't people have a legitimate complaint by referring to this as a bug in the game?

In reality I don't see why this scenario with the baserunner is any different than if the game were to freeze the outfielder thus not allowing him to pursue a ball hit in his direction. A response by the game developers to this complaint that after all one is actually able to move the outfielder before the ball is hit would of course be ridiculous as the issue is about the fielder responding after the ball is hit. Same here. The issue is about the baserunner being able to respond when the pickoff attempt is made. Not before it is made.

Anyway, thanks for offering to bring this up at community day. God willing hopefully they will implement a fix for what should rightly be considered to be a bug (or at the very least, a glitch) in the game.

you know that gloss shine that goes across the pitch choosing area during gameplay. will that be eliminated in the 13 version. it was so distracting. also will we have the option again of only having to guess pitch type to see the proper location.

PS: if you're curious what the gloss shine is you can find it in this video at the 1 minute in mark: hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTXXLM0zDP8

i cant freaking stand it and have no idea why its even included

Haha I know what you mean, it also went over the score bar.
But knowing we can turn everything off now and I'm not seeing it on the new score bar so we should be fine!

In MLB 12' why is it, in CPU vs CPU "demo mode", particularly with runners on base, I finally get to actually see the catcher throwing complex signs down behind the plate, like 4 down, pinky finger out, all kind of stuff. Why is that not in the game?!

well the API is on, I believe it has always been on for me, I get pitch suggestions from the catcher, though I can't shake him off properly. What I'm referring to is the ability for the catcher to throw down, basically realistic signs,

I was watching some demo action and he started showing like 4, 2, fist, pinky outside. All kind of variations, I know I have seen this a few times but never once has this happened in the game. Catcher just throws a basic 1 and thats about it.

In game a catcher will call all pitches and show it through signs....1 or course being the most prominent, since it's the pitchers.....best pitch.
You "shake him off" by simply picking the pitch you want.
There is no "give me another sign" button.

Yea, I don't even have a problem with the shakeoff feature.

But Am I the only one whose ever seen those advanced catcher signs that they throw down on demo mode. It's just so wierd to see a cool feature that exists in the game but you can't even use it.

I don't know what mode you are playing, but the catcher won't give you a four-finger sign unless your pitcher has the 4th pitch in his repertoire.

The reason catchers will give several signs in one sequence is because when a runner is on 2nd base, the catcher doesn't want to make it easy for him to steal signs and relay them to the hitter. I'm a catcher for my high school varsity team so I know that there are several ways to give a simple fastball outside with runners on base.

Also, in MLB The Show, if the user is batting with the camera behind the pitcher, the catcher will give numerous signs because they don't want users looking at the catcher's signs every pitch.

oh ok, i never tried that. i will give it a look, batting with the cam behind the pitcher.

I wish my own catchers would do it when I'm pitching. makes no sense that they don't
