Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
It felt like in past years it did not seem like there was much of a difference between facing an ace or a 4-5 guy. I'd like to see ace pitchers and certain no. 2 pitchers be more dominant and tougher to face. But there always has to be once in a while where they have off games as well. Can any devs comment on this if they feel like 13 is somewhat different in this aspect. ThanksComment

My impression about pitch edit is similar to others. It's not flawless (because of the game's reliance on no movement 4SFB, etc., it's just the system the game uses), but you can definitely see overall improvement. And I was cross-checking with seanjeezy's recent table... he uses an independent data derived from pitch fx, but it's considered a bit more robust than plain vanilla pitch fx.
The credit goes to seanjeezy for the pitch edit table.Last edited by nomo17k; 01-26-2013, 12:50 AM.Comment

Also is there more strike outs this year? Seems like I would only strike out swinging maybe once or twice a game last year. I know I could lower contact slider but it would be better if you were more prone to striking out against a dominant pitcher.Comment

For example if you pull up K.Medlen's year to date pitch count/fx it looks like this in game and on MLB.com.
K.Medlen
1st= 2SFB 89 mph
2nd= CH 80 mph
3= CB 79 mph
4= 4SFB 89
The good news is that this will be a quick fix for me... the ratings will already be in place and all that needs to be done is switch pitch types. However, misclassifications are a big concern of mine, for example f/x saying that Felix threw ~800 something changeups this year when he threw closer to 600... Since Felix's velocity was down the first couple of months, his sinker was commonly being misclassified as his changeup.

Right, but people are mostly responding to the pitch speed differentials though (as in Ramone's examples). Pitch movement is another issue.Comment

If you strike only once or twice per game, then you are not playing at the right difficulty level. Bump it up or two...Comment

Well that seems like the way to go, but in the past I've noticed that when I bump up to HOF or legend I dont see more strikeouts, I instead see a lot more weak contact. I still only strike out one to a few times a game like the other user said. Honestly I sometimes will intentionally take some strikes and even some strikeouts to make my stats seem more accurate in franchise and RTTS. Seems stupid, but I think people on here understand the feeling of wanting things to match up as in real life.Comment

I'm just talking about striking out swinging. When I face an ace I want to feel overmatched at times.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
It's mostly an issue similar to 4SFB... quite a few pitchers throw fastball with tailing action and calling it 4SFB (where movement wise RFB is closer...) but the game doesn't give the movement once it's labeled 4SFB.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
Not to be a debbie downer but therein lies the problem with the f/x system... Medlen gets a considerable amount of run on his changeup so unless the regular changeup now incorporates horizontal movement, the pitch is not accurately represented in-game...

Yeah, overall I find the unfiltered results to be good enough, but for those who are OCD about having every single pitch as accurate as possible (me lol), going the extra mile is soooo much better!Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
I don't know, I always thought the main reason for having a pitch edits set was to correct the overabundance of 4-seam fastballs (which obviously will be corrected by using the f/x system), which coincides with accurately portraying the amount and type of movement a pitcher gets on his pitches...Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

But if you are only striking out once or twice in a game, then your play setting isn't really tuned well for you.Comment

You can call MLB.com and hash all that out with them.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment
