Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

Well, it has not been a smooth start to MLB 13 for me. I installed the game data no prob, the game loaded up and then froze at the menu.

So, I reset, restart, and try again. Notice that the disc seems to be working pretty hard (despite the 10gb install) and the menu music is skipping.

I load up a game (Sox vs Indians at Fenway) and am impressed with how crisp everything looks (I agree with earlier impressions that the game seems sharper, better lighted, etc), but a couple of outs into the top of the 1st I realize that I'm only hearing Matt on commentary. I check my audio settings to be sure and chalk it up to not much to be said (though early in games in often when these guys are most "chatty"). Meanwhile, my PS3 still seems to be working harder than normal and I'm getting occasional hiccups during pitches, etc.

From there, it was all downhill. In between innings music skips like a scratched CD, everything but ambient sound (crowd, effects) cuts off in the bottom half, and when I go to quit to the main menu, the game locks up the PS3 again.

I know this is not so much an actual game impression, but I noticed others had some similar issues with menu music skipping, some in-game skipping, and the PS3 working hard, so I figured I'd share. I've deleted the game data and am reinstalling now. I hope that's all it was (a bad install) and not my PS3 crapping out.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

Just got done checking the game out!
Have to say after watching all the early gameplay videos from those who got there early copies had me a little disappointed.

It looked like the same game as last year.. All i can say is you have to play it to feel the difference. The fielding animations and the game itself is soooo much smoother and just feels right.
To be honest it doesn't even feel like the show to me. Hard to explain but it just feels like a fresh experience .

Loving the new throw meter and how the plays at first look just right in regards to how the close the runner is to being safe or out.. Absolutely perfect!

Thanks dev team! Gona be a great year,, SOXFAN try the 5 gig install , load times are still quick i have seen zero problems

Yeah, thanks. I'll definitely do that if attempt 2 at 10gb doesn't work (It's in the middle of it and seems to be going faster than it should be-which makes me think it's not being installed properly). We'll see.

EDIT: Well, attempt #2 at the 10gb install is a bust (still having audio cutting out and game freezes). I'm taking a stab at the 5GB install, but my gut tells me that my PS3 is on its deathbed.

        Perfect damn timing.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

I've noticed some weird lag on strikeouts (I downloaded my game off PSN) Guy strikes out and when he's swinging through the game stop for a brief second and then keeps going.

On a positive note I'm definitely seeing some hit variety and ball physics I can't say I've noticed in the past. I've had a few singles that are bouncing 3-5 times on their way to just barely getting by a glove and going into the outfield. Loving it so far.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

I'm seeing the 'pitching stutter' on almost every pitch in RTTS.

              This is really bad.

              Almost game breaking thus far.

(I downloaded the game if that makes a difference)

EDIT: Out of about 12 pitches in my first RTTS game, 10 of them had a stutter to them.

              This is unacceptable.

Nice, just got home from work and can download the new roster update. However, the message that their putting the finishing touches on the servers so they won't be up till 9 PST seems pretty laughable to me. They've had how many months/years since they never work well to get them fixed and their saying pushing it back another 12 hours will really make a difference. I'm a cynical jerk to begin with but to me that says the online will stink again this year and all the mainstream sites will pump out reviews without ever testing the online play.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

                  Downloaded version. First the good:

                  - I don't know if this is a product of the download or not, but the menus fly in this game. I've never seen simming this fast in the Show. So that's nice!

                  - The game looks "crisper," and I'm not sure why. The colors seem deeper or something.

                  - Hit physics actually do seem improved. I had a nice gapper and a couple non-scorching base hits in the first few innings. This might be the first time I don't have to zero out "solid hits."

                  - I'm destroying the ball on default All-Star. I'm keeping this in the "good" ledger for now, as I'm facing a crappy pitcher.

                  And the bad:

                  - The pitch stutter is definitely a thing. I'm pretty sure there are two types of "stutters": one really minor stutter that's barely noticeable, but still there. It's like a single missing frame in an otherwise smooth picture, if that makes sense. This can be played through. But then there's the big, can't-miss-it stutter, which I saw twice in my first inning at the plate. It's bad. I don't want to go overboard yet, but it was driving me nuts, and interfering with my game.

                  - 3rd inning, I absolutely drilled the pitcher in the face with a comebacker. Don't worry though, he's okay.

                  - In addition to the pitch stutter, there is a little jumpiness in the picture throughout. While the game may look nicer, it's definitely not smoother. This is especially noticeable when they show a batter at the beginning of his AB.

                  - While ball physics are better, balls down the line still don't get into the corner.

                  - Sorry, Orioles fans: Dylan Bundy's name audio isn't in the game? Odd.

Vita presentation and gameplay flows much better and has improved more than I could ever have imagined. I was disappointed with the Vita version last year but this looks great.

On the downside the pitching stutter is a huge issue. Hopefully this can get fixed in a patch.

Overall I'm very impressed SCEA, great work! I will try out the PS3 version over the weekend.

Incredible game, i was playing in 1080 p i saw some stuttering only when they were flashing team logo's, i went to 720 game looks identical and still some slight stuttering when doing replays and showing team logo's

The game feels different thats for sure.

I did the download and the game does fly thats for sure

First game i was pirates at home vs cubs. Pitching feels crisper people looks much better and alot more animations i never seen before. I got in some trouble and was down 1 to 0. Pedro comes up with a man and swats a homerun that just kept carrying into the bullpen. He hit anotehr one later. I gave up 10 hits but pitched out of trouble cups outhit me 10 to 7 but i won 6-1

Next game i took my buccos to Houston and could have been alot worse cutch put a homerun in the crawford boxes after a error by astros. Then later Jones hit a homerun and a bases loaded triple onto the hill. Astros lineup isnt scary at all. So i really didnt fear them Took that one 6-0

Liriano went 7 struck out 6 walked one on 105 pitches

Im playing on all star, and game feels right, so far.

After pulling an all nighter im going to the office on no sleep, ....but it was worth it

                      Very fine job

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread

I love the game so far, albeit in limited playing time. Only gripe I have is, as has been mentioned above, the choppiness/lag/stuttering when a batter is approaching the plate. I refuse to call it gamebreaking, because it doesn't affect overall gameplay, but I do hope that SCEA fixes this quickly because it is very annoying.

Classic pitching on legend, I've been able to get more strikeouts than before. AI seems to take more and swing and miss more...which is good.

Pitch speed is definitely slowed down compared to years' past, but that's easily fixed with the slider. I was expecting to have to crank it all the way up to 10 (normally, I wouldn't touch it), but moving it up to 6 made a huge difference.

I'm very pleased with the game overall.

I did the digital download around 1am. I really enjoy playing the game without the sound of my blu ray working it's *** off. The first roster update is available. It seems okay. I set the game up with my preferences and played a couple of exhibition games. Played smooth as silk on 720p, no stutters at all. The hit variety is nice. Nice to have the classic parks included with the game this year. Graphics seem better if that's possible. Pretty happy with the game so far. Snow is falling and I'm ready to dig into this game all day.

I ended up disconnecting from PSN to see if it made a difference with the 'pitch stutter' and it did. It's still a big issue in RTTS though. It went from almost every pitch to only one (average) an at bat.

(That is still WAY too much!)

However, I played a regular 'Play Now' game and hardly noticed it at all. I'm not sure what the heck that means.

But like I said, especially when you're playing RTTS and you're spending most of the time hitting, and this shows up in nearly every AB... it's a serious issue.

I love the game though, like everyone has been saying.. somehow it looks a lot better than last year. The graphics have a real depth to them. It's amazing.

And I love the changes to RTTS, just not the aforementioned problem.

I'm not saying your not having this issue because others are aswell but I have played a ton of RTTS since Friday and I haven't had a pitch stutter once.

I've had stutter from cut scenes etc but never from gameplay.
