    Re: MLB 13 The Show Q & A Thread

Right now when I'm hitting and I guess a pitch the controller vibrates, the section I picked is highlighted red and the ( ) thingy I move to hit goes directly to the spot. I've seen videos where someone guesses the pitch and what looks like a red ball shows on the screen. How can I change the hitting to that? Do I still use the ( ) to hit?

    Thanks!

I am pretty sure the X button is the #1, but what direction do you go for the rest of them?

Is #2 based on your next best pitch as listed in the Pitch Repertoire?

So would that always be the Circle on the pad, or is it the Square?

I'm pretty sure you're correct. 1 = X, 2 = O, 3 = Triangle, 4 = Square, and Wiggle 4 = R1 although the wiggle can sometimes be difficult to see. You can see the pitcher shake his head "no" if you choose a pitch that doesn't correspond with what the catcher called.

Apologies in advance if I am posting this in a wrong way as I just joined this website to solely ask this question..

I would really like to have my road to the show starting pitcher to have the "generic windup" of/alike Pedro Martinez's delivery. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated as I cannot seem to find the right one. Thank You.

You are correct the best pitch starts at X and works counterclockwise. Now with that said I was under the impression the catcher was using the general guide of calling for pitches:

            One Finger = Fast Ball
            Two Fingers = Curve Ball
            Three Fingers = Slider
Four Fingers and/or Wiggle Fingers = Change Up

So putting 2 fingers down does not necessarily mean he wants your second best pitch but wants a curveball. Unless I am way off base here.

Well see, that is what I was wondering myself. But if you pitch a guy with just a Fastball and a Slider, he still puts down two fingers, which to me, corresponds with the #2 pitch, which in this instance is still a Slider...

Now, let's say your guy has a 2-seamer at the X position, 4 seamer at the Circle, and a curveball at the Triangle. If his splitter is up on L1, and the catcher gives you three fingers, what doe you throw, as he has no slider???

I love the clean-screen with the Pitch thingy off, but get really confused as to what the catcher wants.

If it is like you say, and no matter where the Curveball falls on the Selection buttons, and that is what he wants, that is cool, but it does make more sense to me now why some of the calls the catcher makes are not what I would think would be situationally appropriate.

Maybe he does not want the curveball, he wants the pitch located in slot#2??

I play with the pitch selection display off as well. And you are right in your understanding (Knight, you are off lol)... The number of fingers directly correspond to the pitch repetoire. 1 = X, 2 = O, 3 = Triangle, 4 = Square, and 4~wiggled = R1. Of course, closed fist = pitch out. I usually turn my pitch marker to FADE, so I have an idea of pitch break. I also peek at the select screen to see what a CPU pitcher's repertoire is, and store it in the back of my mind until a new pitcher comes in, and I repeat the process.

Now the location call can be a little confusing, so I usually peek at the players cold zones and throw to the best location. Anyway, generally 1 tap means high in the zone, 3 is for low in the zone... low and away or low and in are pretty distinguishable.

There is actually a more in-depth feature set regarding the battery signals, but I won't butcher it and misquote Woodweaver's explanation lol. It is tied to the CPU giving more complex signs when batting from the broadcast view, or in CPU vs. CPU games.

That was me that is off. I was never enamored with the feature and preferred to call my own game. Thank you for the clarification, I knew you followed that stuff when you were inquiring about it at CD.

Thanks for the clarification on this...

I am playing more and more with the Pitch Selection Display off, so this will help me figure out what the catcher wants, and does explain why a 3-2 Curveball to the #8 hitter just never made sense.

I never knew that there was a location indicator as well, based on your Woodweaver reference. Any idea where that explanation was in the posts from the past??

I notice that the catcher will pat the ground on a splitter, which makes sense, but he only does it after my pitch selection, and I figured it was tied to the pitch selection itself. No one (at least no one I ever knew) threw a splitter at the waist or above (at least on purpose) so I always thought that it was just part of the animation that when pitches that are typically thrown down in the zone are selected, that is what the catcher does.

If the catcher is actually using the hot/cold zones, or previous at bats, to help you decide where to throw the pitches... Then, hot diggity dog!!

Not sure, other than resetting their budget to the initial $5M. I don't know if they can go in and 'un-spend' any funds.
