I didn't mean to imply that you referred to BABIP as luck, that was just a generalized statement I felt like I needed to throw in there due to massively popular misperception. However, the point that your regression to the mean is flawed is valid. Nobody can argue his fb/hr is sustainable, but to assume his barrelling skills are average for the sake of regression? Think about what that means. I dunno about teying to pick something realistic for him though. It is arbitrary but could be right.

35 makes a great way of stating a gap and come trade deadline time, who really knows what the market is like? It could theoretically go the other way as well. Non-deadline deals, I will agree with his assessment on bending.

I like your arguments though and I'll drop it from this thread. It has been fun!

My opinion on the Cargo argument:

A) The Spreadsheet value is fine. Of course you may want to throw an A over one of the B's if you like to overpay in big trades and for the teams best player, ya they might request an A in return so if ya want him you might have to fork it over.

B) You guys look way to much into stats and these sabermetrics lol. I mean really the dude is producing, and in the game his 80+ contact and power are the same no matter what ballpark so he will be the same in any ballpark in the game. In terms of real life I have a love/hate relationship with it because people get to in love with it and forget, no matter how the sabermetrics look and how good you may be at projecting/calculating all these dumb stats, the players actually have to go and hit the ball, which I find people today are getting away from. Some people need to watch the games and enjoy it, rather than comparing the different sabermetrics to determine how it went. It is a nice tool though when use appropriately.

For this argument I feel its been used a bit to heavily to the point where we are lowering somones sabermetric value down to a lower mean....but thats not what hes doing so the argument may be kind of dumb. In real life hes raking and has 5 tools and if the Rockies were to trade him then ya your forking over an A or hes staying. I understand someone not wanting to give an A due to certain home/away splits but you think the Rockies care about that? So if your bringing that opinion to the trade front when looking to acquire Cargo, I think should pack your things and aim for a cheaper player if you dont wanna pay the goods...my 2 cents

not really...I see you used the sabermetrics to determine his value away from Coors Field which I get and I respect, but I doubt the Rockies are going to sit and do out all these stats and then regress him to the mean and say wow we have to take less lol. Especially if hes hitting

Again...Just my OPINION...everyone is entitled to one

Srsly, I said that I always felt like there was a gap and 35 nailed it. I think with supply and demand, you can still get into some variance but your average CarGo season is valued about right if you are the Rox and are selling. I get it now.

I still feel like purple racism is keeping Larry Walker out of the hall though.
