I'm still not persuaded by the "Brantly will cost more in the long run, just believe me" argument. When do the Marlins play longterm? The way I see it they just look for anyone over $2M or about to be next year and deal them for cheap labor.

Not buying that whole argument. Take the guy FURTHER away from arb because he's cheaper...lol

If JPA gets 1/3/5 in arb, and Brantly gets 3/5/7 two years after that, is that still gonna be 'lol?'

I'm not toooo familiar with Jays prospects, but the last three look like underpays to me.

Probably is, I dunno, those aren't the trades I really care about.

I'm fine the both the Braves and Dodgers deals, and like I said earlier, I think McCann fits your team nicely.

I think I'm gonna for for McCann.

After that I'd rank the Avila and Betancourt ones. Don't think that's enough for Jason Castro.

He isn't rated the best in my set.

    Bold as usual.

So your still saying I'm just agreeing with AC because we're buddies? I read over the trade several times and came to the conclusion that the trade made sense. I'm not blindly agreeing with AC, I'm knowingly agreeing with AC. Like I said, I'm unbiased to who makes the trade. Anyone who made that trade I would've agreed with. So don't make conclusions like "oh they're buddies, so of course they'll agree on each other's trades." Trust me, me and AC don't always like each others trades.

I also believe that JPA+Lugo=Brantly. Sure, Brantly is better than JPA, but he is a catcher. Alot of teams have above average catchers they can look at. It's not like the Marlins will NEVER be able to find another Brantly. Brantly at peak would probably be like Hanigan. That aint saying alot. I think you're overvaluing Brantly incredibly. I like the trade because it's fair and realistic. Don't make conclusions that aren't true.

I still think it's better for the Marlins to keep Brantly, consume his 2 pre-arb years, and then deal him. That's kinda their mo, amirite? amirong?

You have my full support (lol, at the sound of that) in going for McCann. Super realistic and very fair I think, too.

Whether or not you considered it fully or not, two words: cost control. JPA entering arbitration next year and having 20+ HR power will get him a nice little raise. Teams STILL pay too much for the long ball.

This scenario is NOT realistic based on the fact that the Fish keeping the better catcher, and cheaper catcher, up to 2016 is 100000000% more realistic. And we haven't even discussed the fact that the Fish just got him in a deal for Anibal Sanchez last year. He hasn't even played a full season there (not that it matters to them, but he's so cheap there's little to no incentive to deal him).

Cost control? What about cost control for the long run. As we said 7272839 times, BRANTLY WILL COST MORE.

The fish get the best player in the end with Lugo. Have tou seen his scouting report? He is a great prospect that will benefit the Marlins in the end. They lost Dominguez to the Astros, so they would want another, better prospect in return.

Okay, final trade, Mitch Nay + John Stilson + Brad Lincoln for Brian McCann + Aaron Northcraft. Gattis is hitting .321 so Mccann is ever so slightly expendable haha.

I'm not sure. What does the spreadsheet say about Rios? Any prospects you'd prefer to/not to deal? The White Sox could just about use ANY position.

The problem is you're penciling Brantley in for 20 years. How real baseball teams work is, they go a year or 2 at a time. Especially a team like the Marlins that barely make ends meet. So, what long-term are you talking about? Does it come down to 20 years of Brantly vs. 20 years of JPA? I think that's the biggest hole in your argument...we're just talking up until 2016 here. Then the Fish can reevaluate, and save more money, and get contracted, and Loria can get a new franchise to ruin, etc...

And you don't know Brantly will command a higher salary. JPA actually hits for more power and that traditionally comes with a higher cost. Brantly, in case you hadn't noticed, is actually struggling quite a bit this year, which won't help his 2016 arbitration case, so let's not forecast a 8 year deal for $50M to avoid arb quite yet.

I think it's perfectly fine. I've been a big supporter of McCann (ok, and Lucroy too) to your team. I really think you could use the lefty bat AND he is actually not gonna hurt you behind the dish. Could maybe get 4-5 more solid years from him. Lincoln = Norcraft, maybe Lincoln = a bit more too. Nay + Stilson = McCann, with Gattis playing well and you taking on $$$. This would be a "Braves-type" move for sure.

In that case, Chase Anderson, Keon Broxton, or A.J. Pollock make the most sense. Your choice, imo.

I was thinking Keon Broxton, so Keon Broxton for Alex Rios would work?

Only thing is I already have 3 other lefties in my lineup haha, luckily McCann doesn't need to be platooned and I have plenty of switch hitters and such. I demoted JPA. He went 0-5 with 4 SO in his first game haha.

Yeah, but most of the thunder on your team is right-handed with Bautista and Encarnacion. I think McCann's a nice add there particularly.
