Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Just finished up the AS Break, Both are CPU teams (control all teams).
Phillies Send
Chase Utley - 41 G, .222 Avg. 6 HR, 20 RBI
Phillies are 3rd in the East and are 11.5 out. Rebuilding mode, Utley has been hurt and just came back at the end of the month of June.
On the spreadsheet it says 2 C players for Utley, so here are 2 teams looking for a 2B and in the race for a playoff spot.
Tampa Bay Send
Blake Snell - Class A (SP) Low B Potential
Cody Rogers - Class A (LF) Low D Potential
Would give the Rays who are in 1st place by 2 games, a bat that is much needed.
Phillies send
Chase Utley
Athletics send
Jemile Weeks - Triple A Stats - .263 Avg. 41 H. 51 Games
Raul Alcantara - Single A (SP) - High C Pot.
The A's are 7.5 out in the West.Comment

Aw hell naw. They want waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for him.
Well, I'm high on Lawrie so I would say he would cost a couple A's, which the Phil's don't have. Actually, the only A on OSFM OD is Darin Ruf, so I don't think you could do it. As for Romero, He would only cost Tyler Cloyd straight up.Comment

I don't think Toronto is as high on him as you are WTNY. Lawrie has been a bit of a twitter pain iirc and performance (or lack of) is becoming an issue. AA might be looking to get ready for next year at this point and that makes sense to me.Comment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
But I'm not even high on him. I don't even like Lawire....However, a mid 30s C suspended for PEDs recently, an injury-prone 2B who's a shell of himself, and another INF who's beyond washed up--all for the pleasure of taking on salary? It would be a terrible deal and Anthopoulos would be fired on the spot for doing it.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
LOL, okay maybe it was Cam who was high on him or someone else then? but LOL at the rest of your post! Not sure that this rumor has any tread to it but assuming it does..***iz was suspended for amphetamines-dude probably had a cold or more likely was trying to lose weight. Big difference vs. HGH and I would not call it a PED nor would anyone else knowledgeable of drugs (you need to take more drugs, man!). He could be useful but it isn't like he's a centerpiece.
Utley does spend like 1/3rd of a season on the DL and he still outperforms nearly all of the other second basemen in the league even with that handicap. That is hardly a shell of himself!
Young is all washed up? Maybe he's lost a step and that is why he is basically a 3B now and not UI but last I checked, his bat is just fine.
Yeah, these aren't pieces you are going to keep for years to come but how long is TOR's window going to be open? Long enough for Lawrie to figure it out? IF he ever does, Joey Bats might be retired and who knows where the rest of the team will be. Plus, a ton of prospects went out in deals to jump at this window now where NYY/BOS were perceived to be weak.
You ask any GM in the game and they will tell you that this is not a deal you get fired on the spot for--I bet they'll tell you the opposite, that AA went down this road and he needs to continue down this road in the short term.Last edited by rjackson; 07-06-2013, 03:10 AM. Reason: Utley is a FA after this year so unless TOR gets a 1-2 yr extension this is obviously a false rumorComment

"[the effect of amphetamines] causes resistance to fatigue, elevation of mood, heightened libido, euphoria, and loss of appetite"
For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphetamine
Now as for the deal itself...Utley is 34 has played in 115, 103, 83, and 57 (and counting) games over the past 4 years. So, his durability is obviously going in the wrong direction. He is putting up some nice numbers though .282/.349/.521 is very good. But as you noted, his contract ends after 2013, and he would cost about $6-7MM just to rent for this year.
Michael Young is 36 and it would cost $2-3MM to rent this year. He's at .285/.340/.403.
Ruiz is 34 and would cost another $2MM. He's at .278/.339/.309 and in only 30 games so far. He's not even performing.
So they're taking on $11MM or so on old-player lottery tickets, and at the price of one of the highest potential young infielders in baseball. I don't know if Lawrie will ever put it together, and the injuries and attitude will make it even harder for him, but it would be a mistake to gamble away such a young, talented 23-year old like that.
And to do so to slightly crack open a 1-year opportunity when the team struggled so mightily to get back to .500? The Jays started like crap, and Anthopoulos should well know he probably doesn't have a World Series team on his hands this year. If the Jays were 20 games over .500, this would make more sense. I mean the Jays are 5th in the East for chrissakes. And AA is going to spend a blue chip talent like Lawrie to add guys for this year only? LOL is right.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
WTNY, I am not disagreeing that this would be the better way to run a franchise, but many GMs don't worry about the long run. It is about keeping their jobs as long as they can. AA went down this road and trade deadline deals for him are not about competing this year, I thought I made that clear. He is having two winters essentially, trying to reload for next year. Toronto is not exactly a free agent destination, they have limited resources, and this is a window partially made for them and by them. Therefore, this deal WOULD make sense IF Utley was not a free agent after this year. He is though, and why I think this is a rumor with no real truth to it.Comment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
PS amphetamines, like Sudafed or Ephedrine--banned because of a certain Orioles pitcher dying due to dehydration. I don't need wiki--they were banned for a death not performance enhancement. They did not exactly have HGH in the 60s and we know more about them now. Like, dehydration which is why he died and accelerated heart rates. You take a prescription dose of pseudoephedrine and go on a jog or play basketball and then try telling me it is a PED. It causes you to work twice as hard hence the weight loss and fen-phen rage of the 90s. It is like you ran twice as far as you really did and takes that much more out of you. And don't do it when your heartrate is already accelerated due to fever or illness. You might die, too. If not for that, amphetamines might not even be banned.
Maybe he was just trying to stay awake to study for finals? Oh oh it could have been Viagara, ya know, heightened libido?! LOL swinging his bat around off the field! That is absurdity at its worst!
Ah, Steve Bechler was his name.
Let's not derail this thread further. PM if you want to continue but I hope you get it now.Last edited by rjackson; 07-06-2013, 04:51 AM.Comment
