Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

    c. 40 games in, CPU teams offer the following:

SF is 1.5 GB and wishes to send:

A POT 66 OVR SP Kyle Crick: 1-2 8.59 ERA in AA ball
B POT 64 OVR SP Clayton Blackburn: No states, A ball
    B POT 61 OVR C Andrew Susac: .274 1 HR 10 RBI 95 AB in AA ball

    To

ATL 5.5 GB in exchange for:
D POT 64 OVR LF Jose Costanza: .269 3 HR 14 RBI 108 AB in AAA ball

I can't see the logic here, but is there some nugget of truth in this deal that I'm not seeing? SF has 3 SP on the DL, so parting with arms, even in the minors seems odd, esp. in exchange for a LF when Blanco is hitting .282 w/ 2 HR and 18 RBI and there are no OF injuries in SF.

Yeah this trade makes no sense to me.

        There is none.

I've been using the pending transactions log more actively to monitor these things when they're proposed and rather than waiting until they're through.

In many cases, I fail to see the logic.

CWS offer RP Nate Jones to CHI for SP Shawn Camp, RF Scott Hairston, and SS Javier Baez, despite being okay at SS in the MLB, serviceable in AAA and with some potential in AA.

Perhaps they could send Jones to CHI for a guy like Villanueva if they really want to add SP. That seems like a more even trade that would add punch to CHI's bullpen, which they could use.

CWS has a stable full of cold pitchers with miserable ERAs and are 10.5 GB. I could see them wanting to sell a bit, but not for age in return.

          Thoughts on that one?

Not even remotely even, if you mean the Baez one. The Villanueva/Jones is fair but unrealistic.

Yeah, the Baez one was clearly out of bounds; even I could tell that.

The other deal seems like a plea for pitching by the CWS a bit early in the year to conclude that the starters are toast and there's no hope outside of a big trade. I would give it another 15-20 games if I were them so that's what I'm going to make them do.

BTW, with that Villanueva trade, is the lack of realism the particular CHI pitcher, or that CHI wouldn't really be moving starters for bullpen arms?

                Uh, he kinda is lol.
Hes an A and he's been traded elsewhere already & Rasmus is pretty good so like I said I don't expect to get him. I checked out Alex Gordan but I realized I can't acquire any of these guys because they all have huge contracts and I don't have the space or " the budget impact will be to great" for that so I'm going to wait until free agency and see what I can get there

For one, Villanueva just signed a new deal, two, the White Sox would probably want prospects back whereas the Cubs don't want to give prospects so it's not a fit, three, the White Sox and Cubs making a deal would be... interesting... and four, it seems like a lateral move in terms of talent.

                  It's certainly fair, though.

I don't see what the problem here is guys, seems like a nice trade to me, I'd be all for it lol.

It's mid July in my D-backs franchise and I'm looking at acquiring a backup catcher to replace Wil Nieves who might aswell have fallen off a cliff.

I was looking at Josh Thole from Toronto, who is currently hitting .316/.391/.421 down in AAA.

What sort of prospects could the Blue Jays do with down on the farm?

                        OK. Thank you.

I've thought while reading this thread that it would be extremely useful if a global summary post were created that laid out the basic philosophy of each team, like how they value talent, likely buy/sell priorities in general terms (like deepening a certain position, stockpiling prospects, adding veterans, etc.).

I would be willing to organize and publish such a thread if those in the know about their teams or several/most teams would be willing to lend a hand. And if not, obviously no problem, but for franchise players like me who check the thread and spreadsheet but have trouble differentiating between fair and realistic, this would be helpful. I have a hunch I'm not the only one .

I know this is more of AC's question, but what about Evan Gattis on the Braves? Gattis is a logical fit as he is stick behind McCann, and Betancourt is the future C. How is Gattis doing?

That's a decent shout, didn't even think of Gattis.

He's 1-3 in the majors, in AAA his triple slash is .299/.383/.459 with 6 HR and 22 RBI. (Factor in he's hitting lefties at .432, compared to just .248 against righties).
