Gyorko, Cabrera, Headley, Sale, Luebke as a core isn't bad, now that I think about it.
Honestly, I don't see them moving Sale. It's well known the Sox have trouble drawing fans even with name players and a good team. They don't have the luxury of rebuilding like you or I might propose. With Konerko on the way out and the team in disarray, I think they need a player to draw fans like Sale.

Only way I could see it happening is if they are either super concerned long term about his arm action OR if they can bring back another young, but established MLB stud like Stanton or Harvey.

Otherwise, although it may actually be best for them to deal him and the Padres are a good fit, I don't think their business model will allow that.

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

After winning the World Series in year 1 with the Cardinals, I would like to try and acquire Profar from Texas (missed playoffs). I already have Asdrubal Cabrera and I would be willing to trade him and also would be willing to put up some sort of package including Matt Holliday, David Freese, Jaime Garcia, and Lance Lynn. Any thoughts on what would be a fair trade in this situation?

      Cabrera: .312, 99 RBIs, and 16 HRS
      Holliday: .281, 85 RBIs, and 31 HRs
      Freese: .288, 71 RBIs, and 17 HRs
      Lynn: 11-6 and 3.67 ERA
      Garcia: Injured all season

Profar: .278, 33 RBIs, and 4 HRs in 299 at bats

If you want Profar, it takes Taveras or Wainwright.

I see where you're coming from, and I understand Profar's value, but how can a largely unproven SS even be close to Wainwright's worth? Not criticizing, just curious.

Because he's been the best SS prospect in a very long time.

If the rangers missed the playoffs, then they might be trading their older players anyways and they'd want too keep Profar no matter how their season is.

You should deal Wainwright and Keep Tavares. Wainwright is 32 in your franchise now and probably only has 3 All star caliber seasons left in him (factoring for The Show's Regression System) Profar is a great investment who will develop into a great player. The Cardinals also have plenty of pitching. Deal Wainwright.

Alright, I will look into a Wainwright - Profar deal. Can I get anything else out of Texas in this deal?

He's posting a 77 wRC+ at the age of 20. Just because he's not Mike Trout doesn't mean he's not insanely valuable, he's the best prospect in baseball.

He probably doesn't even need to hit, he's got an excellent glove and great speed.

                        Maybe some depth guy.

I think you could get another decent piece along with Profar for Waino. He's still one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball and should be in the hunt for NL Cy Young this year. Waino isn't exactly old, either. Profar IS valuable, BUT, Waino is more valuable.

I think you could easily toss in a second guy like Wilmer Font, Rougned Odor, Leury Garcia, Martin Perez etc...

The problem with the original proposal, A-Cab + Jaime Garcia/Freese/etc... is you are trying to give the Rangers a couple of mid-level guys for a premium prospect. Put it this way, would you trade Taveras for Matt Harrison + David Murphy/Mitch Moreland? You'd probably want a premium guy back like Darvish, Andrus, Beltre back instead, see what I mean?

Also, since the Rangers would still have Andrus, I don't see giving them A-Cab being all that useful--he's a pretty expensive backup SS.

At most, I would go Garcia.

                            And also, A-Cab+Garcia > Harrison + Murphy. Just a nit-pick. I like analogy though.

I completely understand, and I just want to maximize my return on Wainwright. It's a good problem to have, but I have such a severe logjam in my OF/IF that I really need to dump one of the players I listed. Could I pair either Holliday or Freese with Wainwright and get another decent prospect or maybe Ogando? I know Ogando is very valuable in Texas but I think he would be great as a bottom of the rotation or long reliever for me.

Think about the other team. Why would the Rangers need Freese?

Holliday for Ogando is probably a bad trade for you.
