Cool - I like the look of Story.

Looks like the CPU would consider this deal as well, so I'll make the offer. Hopefully, I don't regret this LOL

    Edit:

What might be a good match for someone like SP Mark Rogers from MIL or SP Doug Fister from DET? Ooh Yankees have that Pineda kid that kicked my butt on the block Kyle Gibson (MIN, SP) is on the block as well. Since I might be having a spot on the rotation and still don't like Niemann...

Matt Joyce is hot lately - any of them could go for him before he goes back to his .150 hitting ways? LOL

I don't know if they want to sell low on him at this point IRL. I think that it is funny though

Eh, from the Cubs fans' opinions I've read and heard, it seems like the possibility is there. Obviously it'd take quite a bit

          Arismendy Alcantara?

The problem with Story is he's not MLB ready, so he'd still be stuck with Yunel Escobar starting at SS.

You have been reading the opinions of the wrong Cubs fans.

Even if Castro does get dealt, which has a vanishingly small chance of happening for the next 1-2 years, it ain't going to be for a guy like Hellickson. It would be for a top 100 SP prospect at minimum.

Rolling with 30-team control and this just got proposed between the Cubs and the Orioles:

Taylor Teagarden (.214 AVG, 6 HR, 25 RBI)
            Jake Arrieta (1-4, 5.10 ERA, 56 SO)
            Steve Johnson (1-1, 5.08 ERA, 26 SO)

            FOR

Alberto Gonzalez (.197 AVG, 1 HR, 6 RBI)
            Edwin Jackson (3-4, 3.43 ERA, 55 SO)
            Arodys Vizcaino (2-1, 5.66 ERA, 23 SO) - Double-A

Should I let this trade go through or intervene?

Yeah, I think that's who he meant. That's the only guy I could find anyway.

Story's decent as a hitter (at least in OSFM v2) and actually has more power (by about 8-10 points), just doesn't have the Vision (not that Escobar's 90 was helping him any...). Biggest gamble will be defensively right now. But, again, Escobar has been anything but reliable with the glove.

I'm going to start him if they take the trade. I don't think it can be any worse!

I do have Taylor Guerrieri... he had one of those "Top 50" stickers on him (now it's an R sticker since I called him up).

Yeah I realized that late last night. I have no idea why I always do that.

Story will be ready soon, you could probably get away with rushing him.

Don't let IRL bias creep in. Remember that Hellickson is beasting in his game. Only reason why this is plausible.

OK, so Story was overrated in OSFM v2? I see. I guess that was before he took a nose dive in the minors this year. He is nowhere close to ready irl. But, if he has the attributes in the game, by all means.

If Castro has a .350 OBP in your chise, then Guerrieri is only a start. It'll take another 2-3 blue chippers to make it reasonable. Wil Myers, Chris Archer (lol) and those types of guys.

Well Hellickson's moved, but I have those three...

And I'd move them for Castro...

But the CPU won't go for it so...alas

Looking at some of these half-decent starters on the block.

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

                        TB Trades:
2B/LF Ryan Roberts (C-, .231 in 13 AB [mostly bench player for me])
OF Matt Joyce (B-, .255/.324/.418 in 94 AB)

                        KC Trades:
SP Felipe Paulino (C+, 4.73 ERA in 53 IP, 4.12 dERA, 4.33 FIP)

KC wants a LF and they want Roberts for whatever reason (they won't trade without him), though Joyce is the better player that probably would, you know, help them if he plays to his ratings for them. Paulino is a decent looking pitcher, would be nice insurance in case Guerrieri/Hahn are just overmatched and might also let me get Niemann off the team because I can't pitch with him for whatever reason (just like Haren on the Nats).

                        Thoughts?

That's actually a pretty nice trade. Just change Joyce to an RF before you do it. Roberts could replace Getz and Joyce would be a massive improvement on Frenchy if used right. Paulino is a nice little pitcher too. I like it.

Sorry for so many questions - can you tell I hate the idea of ripping off the CPU, especially in my dynasty thread (in my "purely offline" ones, I don't care quite as much).

Would it make sense to deal a SP straight for a RP?

If I understand my sabermetrics right, the SP is almost always going to be more valuable than any RP besides a solid closer (leverage and such). Otherwise, the innings difference alone gives even an average SP more value.

Assuming that's correct, would it make sense for me to trade Niemann for RP Nate Jones (CWS)? I want Venters, but Braves want a mint for him (Moore? Seriously? LOL) but CWS would do Niemann for Jones 1-on-1. Nats would do the same for Henry Rodriguez.

I tried sorting through lefties not sure if I see any that make sense (most are valued C- though some are valued a B-level and Niemann is only C+).

Just wondering if my thought process is right.

Also, going forward, what's a good general guideline? In yr 2 and beyond, obviously things change, fictional players, etc. Plus, maybe I can stop hogging the thread lol

It depends on the reliever and the starter. A marginal downward trending guy like Niemann for Jones is fine. In a vacuum, you're right, but if you have SP depth and need an RP, it's fine.
