    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

    Long Post
Kansas City Royals - 2013 - June / Halfway Update

    Record - 43-38
3rd place AL central (10 GB)

We are starting to get things together. June saw us come together as a team. We came into the month in 4th place. 10 games back. We went 17-10. Moved to 3rd place. But still sit 10 games back. We went 9-7 vs division opponents.

First week of the month Wade Davis pulled his shoulder and is out 2-3 weeks. A week later Jeff Francoeur goes down with an ACL sprain. Out 2-3 weeks as well. Next day. Down goes Salvador Perez. Tears his groin and is out 1-2 months.

I signed Roy Oswalt to a 2 year deal to replace Davis. 4-0 4.04 ERA. Problem Solved. Frenchy wasnt playing against righties so that didnt matter. For lefties. I moved Billy Butler to 1st base from DH. Moved Eric Hosmer from 1st to RF. And moved Irving Falu to DH. All are currently on a hot streak. Problem Solved. I called up Max Ramirez to split time with George Kottaras. They are batting a combined .232 with 5 HR and 15 RBI. Not really solved but that will due till Perez comes back.

A few guys arent where id like them to me. Mainly Butler. Hoz, Moose, and Holland. Hollang might be traded. Never seems to do god in franchises.

In the draft we got a couple A prospects. The best was an 18 year old Left Fielder named Henry Marquez. Hr has a 90+ potential. And comes in rated 60. His hitting ratings are already better than any prospect i have. And better than Frenchys. So he could be losing his spot soon. The other is a 21 year old 3rd baseman named Rodney Tillman. Not sure what he is projected to be since i only draft 1st rounder. But he has an A potential. he is scheduled to reach the majors in 2019 at 27. He could be trade bait since i have Moose locking up 3rd for the foreseeable future.

Will be back after July. Will post any notable trades that happen.

Kansas City Royals - 2013 - July Update

      Record - 53-53
      4th place AL central (17.5GB)

July has come and gone. And KC fans wish it had never came. While Detroit fans hope July comes twice on the calendar. We went 11-14 in July. Not to bad. Still at .500. Which is all i hoped for this season. But there is always that hope for the playoffs. And Detroit is destroying anyone in their path to make sure we dont get there. Aside from the Central. Most of the other races are close. And most teams have no where near the 71 wins Detroit has. Closest is White Sox and Angels both with 63. We sit 7.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot. So we are still right in this with 56 games to go. But we have to stop getting hurt.

Roy Oswalt went down in the first week of July with a broken hand. He will miss 1-2 months. Hopefully he is back sooner rather than later. Perez should be back within a week and a half. Most of my batter are cold. Having him back should help keep the line up even.

August has us playing 11 division games. 4 in a series against Detroit. splitting that series would be great. We should know by then end of this month whether we have a real chance to reach the playoffs or need to start looking to next year.

Kansas City Royals - 2013 - August Update

        Record - 66-69
Tied for 4th place in the AL central (23.5GB)

August was no better than July. For both the Royals and Detroit. We know our season is over. Unless a few teams have epic collapses. We wil take September and see what our minor leauguers have to offer. Oswalt never made it back in August. And that potentialy cost us 3-5 wins. Christian Colon will get alot of time at SS and 2B. Duffy and Paulino never showed they had what it takes after TJ surgery to make it back to the majors while we were still in the race. Now they will and will be fighting for spots into next ST. Not much else to say. Detroit will be going for 100+ wins most likely. 3 guys in the top 5 for BA. They were just to much to for all teams this year.

I have September done as well. Dont feel like typing it up right now. But we did better than i expected.

What's everyone's opinion on starting a franchise and not using your favorite team? I really want to use the Mets.

I think a lot of people don't use their favorite team, and even if they did, if you feel like using the Mets, go for it!

              Cleveland
18-11 as of May 4... 2.5 GB (behind Detroit)

Daisuke Matsuzaka has been awesome so far. Currently 3-0 on the season with a 1.92 ERA. He doesn't have many K's (15) but he is getting opposing batters to swing at bad throws and ground/pop out.

Getting a bit nervous about Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana as they are both in the midst of a terrible six-game slump.

We won out last game 1-0 over the Twins with our only run coming the in the first inning after Swisher doubled in Bobby Brock (a rookie we traded for to play left field).

Looking to trade Brett Myers soon - don't really care what we get for him either... he has allowed ten HRs so far over the course of 4 starts.

                Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Just completed my 1 of 162 Braves franchise game for the Show 13. I won it in walk off homerun fashion. (me) Hudson vs. Lee What a duel? Huddie 7IP 2ER 2K, Lee 6IP 1ER 4K.
Phillies jump out to a 2-0 lead, top of the 2nd. I got 1 run back. Btm 7th McCann gets a 1B, CJ#23 up next crushes a 2R HR, by me using the (normal) swing. Jumped out to a 3-2 lead.
I bring in O'flaherty top 8th. He gave up 1 run. So its all tie 3-3 in the 9th.

Uggla leads off with a 2B. McCann gets a 1B. He goes 3 for 3 all singles. Uggs advances to third with no outs. CJ#23 strikes out. Andy S. strikes out. I bring in Juan Francisco. He's down in the count 1-2. Durbin is pitching for the Phillies. Durbin decides to challenge Francisco with fastball inside, belt high. I get around on the pitch. A walk off 3R home run by Francisco. Nice team walk off presentation by the way. I won 6-3!

                My lineup is:
                1. BJ Upton
                2. Heyward
                3. Justin Upton
                4. Freeman
                5. McCann
                6. Uggla
                7. CJ/ Francisco vs. righties or whoever gets hott
                8. Simmons
                9. Pitcher

                Rotation
                1. Hudson
                2. Maholm
                3. Medlen
                4. Minor
                5. Beachy

I think its fine. I just never use a division rival of my favorite team in franchise modes. I'm a Yankees fan using the Reds.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

I think not going with your favorite team is actually the way to go. It expands your horizons as a baseball fan a bit.

Personally, though I am a die-hard Cubs Fan, a Cubs 'chise never has been able to hold my attention. I really don't know why, but if I had to speculate, I think it's because doing poorly with the Cubs just feels all too much like real life , but having a bunch of success and winning just feels so foreign, and then it's tough to transition back to being a real world Cubs Fan.

But whatever the reason, I always have more success 'chising with teams other than my favorite.

How early is too early to make trades to your team? What's the earliest you have made a trade and or trades in your franchise after you have started opening day?

I am the Cardinals and about done with the first month of the season and already looking to go younger and get rid of some high priced players to make room for more money. Just curious on how long you guys hold off on trades. Or do you strike when the iron is hot.
What's with this chick? Does she have beer flavored nipples?

I always struggle with the favorite team thing in my dynasties.

On the one hand, I genuinely enjoy playing with my favorite teams. I mean, they are my favorite teams after all. And it's nice winning with them, especially when they're down in real life. And I do sometimes feel like I'm cheating on them if I play with another team, especially if they're struggling in the game.

On the other hand, the "pressure" is off so to speak playing with another team. It's easier to just enjoy the game, if that makes sense, because you're not emotionally attached.

I started one with the Braves since they're my team. But I'm so tempted to start over with the Pirates.

Yankees fan here and I have used The Royals, Marlins and Dodgers before. Normally I always play The Yankees in modern day and certain classic seasons (did the 94 season from Knight and was heart broken again losing to the White Sox in the ALCS), but I am a closet Royals fans to be honest. I always have loved George Brett, Willie Wilson, Saberhagen, Henke, Montgomery, Appier, Stillwell etc.

I guess from all those classic post seasons vs The Yankees I grew a huge amount of respect for the KC Blue.

I will use them in the 1984 set again when it comes out.....love that 84 team.

PJ is doing that 88 set and The Dodgers were such an amazing team that year.....love that whole season and how it finished.

Taillon should get the callup soon. I'm looking for a closer and a leadoff hitter as well still.
