Okay...so why are Hall of Famers like Jeter and Mariano, when not even playing in a game, becoming more useless than triple-A players after only a month of baseball?

How are you supposed to get through a full season of playing in franchise with ANYBODY above the age of 30 and have them still skilled enough to be a major league starter?

I can see them getting that low by August-Sept but after ST? When they should be at their prime playing shape? That just doesn't make sense...

      I have completed 3 sims..
      Jeter .310, .292, .299
      Mo 2.23 40, 2.56 42, 2.31 45

Hardly AAA....don't look at the OVL for dictating the level of play a player is capable of. The individual attributes are more important.

Then what does OVR even represent if individual ratings are more important? Confused.

This is what I figured would happen. And after re-reading my post, I think it may seem as if I'm thinking these older players shouldn't regress...that isn't the case. I was just struck by the fact they regressed heavily after 30 or so odd games in Spring Training of the 1st season in a Franchise. If the players have the same results that they should, I have 0 complaints about this. Hell I personally haven't even seen this in the 4 or 5 years of sims I've done.

OVR is a collection of stats that gives a general idea of a player's ability. The individual stats tell you the whole picture. Example: Look at Jeter who you said dropped 20 points, what are his contact ratings? I'd be willing to bet they are still more than serviceable. Defense is weighted into the equation of OVR, especially for an SS...Jeter is arguably the worst defensive SS in the league right now. Stuff to consider

BOTH their overall AND individual ratings are going down.

The OVERALL is going down because the INDIVIDUAL attributes are each going down up to 15 points after a month.

Is that comment necessary? The OP and posters made perfectly reasonable posts, they were confused at the speed of a player's decline and it was addressed. You didn't need to get sarcastic about it.

Can you get more specific about which numbers are going down?

Plus it sounds like they are up for an argument.

                        Do I have your permission?

                        Thanks in advance.

Then why are you giving them material to have that argument? If I was starting my franchise and one of my fave players dropped 20 points after Spring training I might be somewhat peeved too. But Russell addressed it, other poster's chimed in and then you got sarcastic about it all.

This actually sounds really cool... weren't we clamoring for drastic in-season progression/regression for a while now? The fact that it seems to be random is neat, think of it as a guy flipping the switch in spring training...

Having the same exact issue with the Rangers, did a full season Sim and saw Beltre drop to around 80 and Joe Nathan dropped down big time into the 60s... my Double A closer technically would have been better than Nathan at that point.

Bring him up then...time to go young. Just like real life now..If you are going to pay that salary you need to make tough decisions. What do you think the Yankees are thinking right now with A-ROD and his contract? No worries about Jeter?? Mo after major reconstructive knee surgery in his 40's??? Players see real slips in real life. The game is emulating that now.

No longer are players going to continue to put up prime year numbers right before they retire.
