Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Only fix for this problem is turn down fielder arm strength n reaction it helps to score more runs from second on base hits.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
No that doesn't work. L2 steals I'll baserunners. Last year you could hit the O button and Up on the directional pad and only the guy at first would steal???????Comment

This is definitely an issue that needs to be patched. It's happening to the CPU also. The runner turns into slow motion as he rounds the bag. This kills the vast majority of chances to score on a single and hurts scoring in general.
If this is as designed that is a little disappointing. The base running for the most part was always realistic in terms of results before, with runners advancing as expected in various situations. It's killed for the time being.Last edited by Drew127; 03-07-2013, 11:49 PM.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Thanks for the videos, DM.That is exactly what is happening to me.
It's not every time like you've said, but probably about half of the time or so. If its happening with the CPU controlling the runners than it is a bug/glitch.
It would be nice if the people from SCEA actually look at someone's complaint before calling a bug "a new momentum based base running animation core."
Hope its something they get to in the first batch of patches.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Not having the game yet i've been following all the talk on here till I get it Monday, and this problem has me the most concerned, even more than the first strike % and ratings drops after spring training.
I see it in all the videos ive been watching, check out this one
Angels bottom of the 1st. I feel Trout could have/would have gone to 3rd on the 2nd hit. And worse than that I feel he should have scored on Puljols single.
Is everyone seeing this? Do the slider adjustments fix it? It takes lots of the realism out of the game when the guy just stands at 3rd when he should be scoring... How come more people arent talking about this?Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
I think there is some correlation between baserunning ability, and the slowdown effect.
I noticed it last night, and got mowed down at the plate with Saltalamacchia, but his br ability is fairly low. He was on second, there was a ball hit to right center, and I immediately pressed the L1 button to get him to take off, I kept it pressed until he passed third base but he did this weird, quick-sand, quagmire-induced animation that just looked like he had gone to slo-mo, and was thrown out by ten feet. When I played the replay back, I could clearly see that he was having some trouble physiologically and his legs seemed to fail him...
Fast forward to the 5th inning, and Pedroia is on second, similar ball into the gap, and this time, no sign of slowdown, and I pressed the L1 button at the same time, and with the same duration.
So, I know this is a small sample to test from, but is it possible that baserunners with low BR ability might be afflicted by the quicksand and slow down?
If so, I think i kind of like the idea, as this would make pinch running REAAAAALy important late in the game, based on getting a guy out there with a high BRA. Also, it is going to make sending the runner a lot more dependant on his base running skills...
If it is a glitch, too bad... If it is on purpose, I salute thee.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
They definitely changed base running mechanics and it sounds positive for the most part. Russel said how you have to decide early to take another bag or not, and one of the videos shows how they adjusted the animations.
My issue is not with user baserunners but the CPU. Watching that video and others it seems the CPU is at a strong disadvantage and is not taking bases they should be taking, and more important scoring when they should be. Thats just my rough opinion Id like to hear what others think about the CPU base runners it just looks strange to me but I havent played and I dont know if sliders fix it or notComment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
When I have a runner at second and ball is hit in the outfield, I press L1 quickly to get him moving, and then press up on the L-stick, then X to send him home. I've seen the slowdown around 3rd as well. So from what Russell said earlier, do I need to have him cued to go home before he gets halfway to 3rd in order to prevent the slowdown? That's pretty tough to do when I'm following the track of the ball and then have to do the button presses the send him home (L-stick up and then x). Is there a quicker way to send him home?Last edited by aukevin; 03-08-2013, 02:27 PM.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
I'm with you. They should be talking about this, it is a rather large fundamental issue with the game if this problem is as significant as I've witnessed so far. Hopefully some of it can be resolved with sliders. Gotta keep playing to see what can be done about it.
Simply put, if Mike Trout is on second base he should be scoring on a base hit the vast majority of the time. I've seen runners like him making the turn at third and getting about a quarter of the way to home plate before putting on the brakes and retrieving. Very frustrating to see.Last edited by Drew127; 03-08-2013, 11:35 AM.Comment

Does adjusting the Base runner speed slider affect the speed of players who are stealing also? I don't see how you can really adjust that without breaking another part of the game if that's the case. The only option I see is fielder arm strength which seems to be something most people do lower to get rid of the station-to-station base runners.
I could never play this game online where sliders are unusable it should work properly default imoComment

In neither example in your post before this should Trout have tried for the extra base. Both plays would have been close and when you look at the context for the next batter, risking the out would have been dumb.
I had a play last night with Billy Butler rounding 3rd like crap but he has bad attributes like Salty. I also believe they've added something this year for poor base runners. I won't say there isn't any tweaking that could be done, but the notion that something is broken is still premature.Comment

I don't believe that is happening enough from what i've seen but I agree it needs more attention which is why im bringing it up people are more concerned about colors being wrong or peoples body types than this which I feel is more importantComment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Well this just cost me a game-winning hit.... awesome!
Got a hit to left-center with a runner on second that would have won it but he slowed down so much rounding third that they barely got it home in time to get him out...Comment
