To me, Matt Vasgersian in the voice of baseball. To lose him would be losing a big reason why this game is so awesome. Any video game commentary is going to be repetitive and stale no matter who's voice it is, so why not keep the man who's voice is synonymous with baseball?
Joe Buck is TERRIBLE. Whoever suggested he should replace Matt Vasgersian needs to shake themselves.Comment

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
I'm gonna back up Matt V on this one. It's not him that is the problem. It's the lack of commentary in the game that is the problem. Too much dead time. There are sooooo many times when I would sit there and I would think to myself the announcers could be commenting on something right here. Wether it was about the standings on the current season or out of town score board witch they took out this year or something like that. I am just very dissapointed in the way SECA handled the presentation this year.
Is that true, the standing/score OSD's are gone from franchise? Or am I misunderstanding?Last edited by econoodle; 03-11-2013, 08:52 PM.Comment

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
atleast that corpse dave cambell is gone, he always sounded totally wasted too, karros aint much better, but he dont say much. Harry carry woulda been the man to put in the show, and he was usually bombed by the 6th. They coulda had him slurrin his words, and getting counts wrong, thatd be realistic for sho. Vin scully too, thatd be good.Comment

But the biggest problem is that Lyons and Matt V. don't talk to one another, they just talk at the game.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
Ed Farmer(AKA Farm-io) does White Sox Radio, Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is the one that does TV, and is the one with all the catch phrases. "HE GONE!" "CAN O' CORN!" "DANG GUMMIT" " CHOPPER 2 HOPPER " "GO ON...STRETCH...HE LOOKS UP...YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOARD YESSSSSS!!!!!" ect ect ect
Also, I don't understand why people say having the same play by play guy in the game for so long is getting old, while teams in real life have guys 20+ years in the booth?
Bring back Vin Scully before he dies please.
Wouldn't mind the cubs tv crew do it too. They seem perfect for the pureness of baseball direction they go for on commentary.Last edited by CCDaDon; 03-14-2013, 02:55 AM.Comment

Been the major problem for years with this games commentary, hopefully the PS4 capabilities mean this will go away in the years to come.Comment

You will never get an announcing team that will satisfy everyone. Some guys think McCarver is great, others think he sucks (I'm one of the ones who thinks he sucks). IMHO, Matt is good. I always mute the other two. In the old days, when they played real baseball in the daytime, on real grass, and in open air stadiums, the classic radio broadcasts had lots of dead air, with no announcers filling your brain with worthless drivel. The play-byplay man could carry the whole broadcasting load. The dead air was great for listening to the ambient stadium sounds. When there were two announcers, each would broadcast half the game while the other was mostly silent. Mel Allen and Red Barber did it this way. I believe the best thing SCEA could do for the show is to hire voice actors to mimic the great announcers of the past. Just think how great it would be to listen to announcers who sounded like Harry Carey, Ernie Harwell, Milo Hamilton, Mel Allen, Red Barber, Phil Rizzuto, Russ Hodges, and all the other greats.Comment

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
Because Matt V was accessible and affordable. He was announcing the Padres at the time he was hired, if I'm not mistaken. Therefore he was right in the same area as the studios. Not to mention he probably costs a lot less then if you were going to go after some of the bigger guys like the two you mentioned above. Quite honestly I think Joe Buck would be a complete waste of money.
In order for Baseball commentary to work you need two guys who interact back and forth with stories, experiences, player and team information, etc. That's really the only workaround for developing great Baseball commentary. It's the hardest sports game to develop commentary for because there isn't action every minute, so you need to fill the non action with exciting stories, stats, previous game information, etc. That's a lot of stuff to record and place in a game to make sure it's not too repetitive.Comment
