What about just a "exclude pitchers provision? Instead of compromising the entire mode with "unwanted" counts just to help with the sac bunt thing... how about giving us an option to simply abstain from having counts generated during any at-bat for the #9 hitter, during NL play? Or a button/menu option to "not generate a count for the next batter," that you could manually select mid-game, say, when the #8 hitter was at the plate.

Seems like it would be easier than more "count balancing", and it would not make anyone unhappy, or compromise the fundamental goals and ideals of Generated Counts.

And it helps with the sac bunt thing.
With the game not being out yet I think all of this discussion about changing the mode already is a little premature. That said, Ramone mentioned how QC's uses a separate code from regular full length play. The count logic/stamina/etc.

I don't know if 'turning it off' is really an option here mid-game. At least not how it's been described in these early stages.

However, as long as all of the games users provide smart and quick feedback, and the mode gets some use, I'm sure that the coding could be modified somewhere down the road if it is indeed possible.

What's important when the game comes out is to use the feature and critically analyze it for future implementations. If it's a popular mode, I'm sure it'll get some love year to year.

Even as some of the compromises/limitations surface, I'm still looking forward to this feature. The ability to squeeze in a game in 30+ minutes and still experience most, if not all, the dynamics of a baseball game (eg, as opposed to hacking hastily) could really add to my games played total. I suspect full-length games will remain my preference, but I could see running a franchise with a good chunk of games using quick counts to move the season along.

And without playing (meant as a significant qualifier), I'd prefer to have 2-0 & 3-0 counts in there. I understand the argument for expediency, but I don't view those hitter's counts as automatic long at bat. When I'm in that situation, most times I'm looking for the get-me-over fastball to drive, so it can be a short AB... Or I can whiff on a few changeups.

Or you could also a draw a quick walk. Come on man you don't swing 3-0 unless of course you have runners on and a thumper at bat

I understand why some people people dont want or will not use the feature, but I like the fact that it makes you have to strategize your at-bats a little differently than normal and I think thats a fresh and welcome addition to most of us players.

But as always with SCEA, its an option that can be turned on/off, so if anyone hates it or gets tired of it, all you have to do is toggle it off. In my book, its just another great feature implemented into an already awesome game.
I disagree that it adds more to realism. Because this is a simulation baseball game not an arcade game. I like the fact that I don't have to use it if I don't want to though, but in my opinion it's not helping players who struggle at the game, to get better by giving them shortcuts.

I would assume that someone who would buy a baseball game would understand it's long and games would drag on a bit.

As far as providing more realistic counts, that's the product of a player and how good he is. People who are going to use just this feature are going to get run over in online franchise, diamond dynasty and head-to-head.

Working a count to 3-1, 3-2 or 2-0 and getting a hit would feel more rewarding and give the player confidence, rather than the count starting at 2-0 and you get a hit.

Funny that it is even included for online Franchise again and my opinion this feature totally defeats the point of competition for online

Boxscores from QC looks almost identical to those seen in normal games. So it's not "arcade game" and there are a lot of users who on beginner and rookie difficulty who still struggle to hit. This new mode gives them another avenue for success.

I would assume that someone who would buy a baseball game would understand it's long and games would drag on a bit.
You shouldn't assume that because it's the antithesis of the feedback we've heard the last 3 years.

You shouldn't assume that everyone who uses QC will ever play an online game or head-to-head. They also won't get run over online you have no data to back that assumption up.

Quick Counts isn't for everyone some people will love it others will hate it, Some guys will only play using QC while others might use it on occasion. Different strokes for different folks.

Sure you don't see every pitch but what it might do for some people especially as a pitcher it will give more realistic pitch counts and totals. I'm willing to bet that most people probably have 10:1 strike to ball ratios. Also very few walks allowed as well. Hardly realistic. Now with more balls forced into counts you'll see a change I would think.... This is where I might use the feature. I won't be using it while I'm hitting though. I like full control.
I dont mean it to sound this way but as a few have mentioned It can get very boring just going through the motions in a near 2 hour games at times while viewing all the wonderful presentations so having ten pitch at bats all condensed in a few pitches will be a Godsend while still keeping sim .

Im not sure its a option for just pitching or hitting though as I think its either a on or off only ... but I would also only use it when pitching if that was a option as batting is not a issue for me either .

I understand your point in not using the feature to give the player the opportunity to be a more patient hitter, learn to read pitches, etc. I also think if you flip that logic around, the generated counts would help some players to work the counts, draw more walks, or get into a hitters count. This could possibly help those same players be more patient in the games where they decide to toggle off the generated counts.

As for me, I plan to give the generated counts a shot just so I can play more games. I would love to be able to take my time and play all of my games in franchise and go deep into counts in most of my AB's. But with work, family, gf, and other priorities, I cant do that and even get through hardly 1 year of my franchise like I desire to.

And like you said in your post, it IS a simulation game, not an arcade game. Thats why I have confidence in SCEA giving realistic generated counts depending on the pitcher/batter and allowing my game to have realistic results whether I play with generated counts or I decide not to.

                    I agree 100%.

If most feedback given to SCEA is that baseball games are too long and as a result guys aren't being patient at the plate because they simply want to get the game moving, then those same people are probably more likely to be patient when they know their game can end much more quickly because of a generated quick count.

I want to draw walks in baseball games. I usually can do so in The Show. But my games also take two hours to play 9 innings. I don't know how anyone finishes in one hour. It takes me 2. That's too long for one game.

Knowing I can continue to be patient but have that time cut by 50% is huge for me as a baseball gamer. Huge. I doubt my games will be 30 minutes long, but even if they are 45-60 minutes now, I'll take it over the marathons I was playing in prior versions.

And realistic stats to boot? Turning this option on the second I can change settings.

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts

QC is huge for me. I am a very patient hitter and go deep into counts. It appears QC is going to allow me to play 2 or 3 games in the same amount of time that I currently play 1. I don't think QC is going to change my approach at the plate. I'm still looking for good pitches and trying to lay off pitches out of the strike zone, no matter what count I start with.

I currently sim a fair amount of games due to the time it takes to complete even one season. With QC I should be able to complete 2 or maybe even 3 seasons playing every game before 2015 comes out.

I get that not everyone will like or use this feature but that's the great thing, YOU DON"T HAVE TO USE IT!

I don't use fast play very often so I'm curious as to how quickly games go with that on. Does it speed the game up in a significant way?

I wonder how quickly a game can get done if you turn on fast play, turn off batter walkups and anything that takes time away from gameplay. And then turning on QC's.

Have the 30+ min estimates been with broadcast mode on or fast play?

That's a silly assumption, but it's also an invalid argument. I assume when I go to Manhattan, New York that there will be crime there. Does that mean those in power should make no effort to keep crime as low as possible?

Of course everyone knows baseball games are long.
That doesn't mean everyone is 100% satisfied with their length.

I agree completely, and I'm not complaining one bit. It's great that they took the time to add such a unique feature. Honestly, even if a "compromise" of some sort never makes it in, during my entire lifetime, I'm still fine with it, and I'm still using quick counts at least some of the time.
