Right with ya, the style guide is the style guide. Nothing is gonna change that.

I hate the style guide. It exists to protect the brand yet it does the opposite

We did use BIS a few years back now all of our data comes from MLB.com.

I have a question for Russell or for anyone else who has an early release of the game. In MLB 13 during MoM games (this could also possibly exist in CPC vs CPU games though it is not as obvious). When I wanted one of my batters to lay down a sacrifice bunt, it did not matter how far the pitch was out of the strike zone, the batter would always attempt to bunt no matter what which usually resulted in a strike. In the real world, if it is obviously out of the strike zone, the batter more often than not aborts the bunt attempt and takes the pitch as a ball. Has this been addressed in MLB 14? Was SCEA even aware of this issue in MLB 13 during MoM games?

I'm curious about editable potential. When you change a guy's rating in this area are you prompted for a letter (A through F) or a numerical value ranging from 0 to 99?

                Thanks

I always use default rosters and I'm curious about generated players after seeing a couple things.

                  • Refined player generation logic
                  • Player regression has been improved to slow down the amount older players will decline

When I saw those among the new franchise features I was wondering if generated players would have reduced attributes to balance older players remaining in the game longer.

Then when I looked at the screenshots of lineups and pitching rotations I saw no generated players.

I wonder if anything has been posted regarding what changes were made to generated players and whether there are any major league ready generated players.

While ur right, what irks me more about the style guide is when it's used as a crutch to answer uniform questions that have nothing to do with the style guide. Just sayin

I know that it wasnt SCEA themselves doing it.

What Nomo told me last year was that whoever is in charge of ratings (I think its Chris, can't remember though... sorry!) gets a spreadsheet from MLB and the info is plugged into a ratings generator. The pitch types are exactly what you see on Fangraphs with one exception:

The pitch repertoire thread from last (?) year - If there was visual/anecdotal/analytical evidence that a pitcher throws a particular pitch then it was included in a future roster update.

So if a 2014 thread surfaces make sure to use it, any changes will be included in the weekly roster updates.

I was just wondering if the stat "Left on Base" (LOB) that was in the game log fixed from last year. In MLB 13, the stat did not annotate in each inning correctly.

That's not exactly what I said, I think...

All I know is that SCEA now gets statistics (plus some other proprietary info that only MLB can provide) from MLB, directly. Not sure if that's in a spreadsheet or not (and the form really doesn't matter). And SCEA has its own in-house formulas to convert those stats/info into player ratings. Most stats of course are available publicly, so there won't be any different whether they get from MLB or places like Baseball Reference or Fangraphs. Other stuff that they can use from MLB, I don't know what they are and how SCEA actually are using.

I'm not actually sure if the info that SCEA uses is exactly the same as what you can get in Fangraphs. Especially with pitch repertoire, there are different systems for labeling pitches (all of which are simply for the convenience for human), and I am not sure if the way these labeling systems work are similar.

It is entirely possible that SCEA may be simply using the info that's already interpreted by MLB (in which case they should be similar to the pitch-by-pitch info you can get directly from MLB), or they have rawer data as in Pitch F/X, where they are doing the manual conversion of pitch flight information into in-game ratings.

So there are a few points in the process in which things can become "inconsistent," meaning things might not look similar depending on the info sources you are comparing with.

But that was what I gathered in the community day event last year for MLB 13. Who knows things might have changed since then, given how critical some guys have been on certain aspects of player ratings.

Can you change the letter grade manually in the editor? or does it automatically change with whatever the player rating is?
