Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
--- v4 fixes the 2012 Tampa Bay Rays pitcher stats with RISP omission ---
--- I have also changed the pitcher H/9 and HR/9 formulas slightly ---
--- v4 uses batting average to calculate "contact" ratings ---
NOTE:
The biggest change in v4 is that the calculator is now using batting average to calculate contact ratings. I am not entirely happy about this but with the previous formula (which measured true contact ability) all the ratings were pretty high.
I am not sure what the contact rating in the game is actually a measure of though??
The previous method can still be found in the "Calcs" tab, should you prefer to use it - just a case of switching the formulas around.
The pitcher H/9 and HR/9 formulas have been altered to lower the ratings slightly, as I wasn't seeing many hits or HRs in my games although this is probably due to me playing on HoF and Legend, as when I played on Veteran, I was seeing plenty with the old formulas.
I now multiply by 2.5 and 25 instead of the 2 and 20 and it does seem that lowering the H/9 does mean more hits but I will continue testing.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
---- v5 contains a new fielding abilty formula based on positional averages ---
The old formula, which was just a players fielding percentage meant that nearly all players had ratings in the 90s.
The new formula is based around a player with an "average" fielding ability for his position receiving a rating of 66.
The new formula leads to a bigger gap in ratings between players.
In the games I have played using this formula I have noticed a difference between the players rated highly compared to lower rated players.
--- The pitcher H/9 and HR/9 formulas have also been lowered slightly (again!!) ---
I now multiply by 3 and 30 instead of the 2.5 and 25 which reduces each rating by about 3.
****
I don't foresee any future changes to the calculator (unless somebody can suggest a formula for arm Strength and accuarcy??) as I am pretty happy with all the formulas now and they play a good game on all levels with default sliders.
My only other suggestion to improve gameplay would be to lower the fielder arm strength slider to 3 and reduce the fielder run speed slider by 1 (or maybe 2).Last edited by jimbo_1884; 11-23-2012, 06:26 PM.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
It looks like a very nice Calculator, great work!
I have the same problem with the #, and also I can't find Hunter Pence.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
Have updated the file in the opening post so that it now includes players that were missing from the player list (inc. Hunter Pence!!).
The player information has also been updated so that all players now have their B/T, DOB, height and weight info.
The player #'s are incomplete though and to be honest I will probably just remove them, as with player movements etc. keeping them up to date is pretty hard!!Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
Not sure what the problem is to be honest, as it works fine with me!!
What program are you using to open the file?? It may be that it isn't compatible??
If it isn't, then I could try to put up an open office document to see if that helps.
Oh and Hunter Pence is included in the latest update along with a few other players I had missed,Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
If anybody wants to see how the game plays with these formulas then I have a roster that I have been using for testing that you can download.
Only the American League East and The National League East have been completed, so that's the NY Yankees, Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Philadelphia, NY Mets, Miami and have also done the Seattle Mariners as well....go M's!!
I think it was one of the OSFM roster I used but it's really just for testing purposes.
It plays a good game on all default levels and sliders but as mentioned previously, if you are struggling with hits, lower the fielder arm strength slider by 1/2 and fielder run speed slider by 1/2.Attached FilesComment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
I'm pretty sure there is a problem with transferring the data validation from Excel 2010 to older versions, as well as open office etc.
You could always try downloading Microsoft Office Starter 2010 which is a free "lite" version of Word and Excel, as I'm pretty sure it will work in that.
Just tried it and it does work in Starter and I'm assuming that's not because I have the full version as well.
Type "microsoft office starter 2010 download" into google and go to the download crew page and follow the link.
Usual guff...blah, blah blah, I take no responsibility for any problems etc!!Comment

i think it was the program I was using, but the one you mentioned in a post ("microsoft office starter 2010 download"), I was able to use and it works perfectly!
thank you for the quick reply.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator v3 (with download)
This has been my first year playing MLB The Show and I have enjoyed it that much, I decided to have a bash at creating an Excel ratings calculator based on MLB regular season statistics.
I thought I would make it available for people to try and also because I am looking for any feedback or alternative formulas etc.
I am especially interested in any suggestions for formulas for Arm Strength and Accuracy, as I have been unable to think of any, based on the current set of stats that I use.
The calculator is worked by simply selecting the player from the drop down menu on the HOME tab.
If you want to see the formulas I have used, they are listed on the Calcs tab and down the right hand side, I have also listed alternative formulas that could be used instead.
As I am a total newbie to roster making, I can't promise it will be 100% accurate but it has been completed to the best of my abilities.
03/11/12 --- v3 fixes an error with the pitcher k/9 rating ---
05/11/12 --- changed drag bunt formula - doesn't affect rating, just inputs "-" when appropriate ---
17/11/12 --- v4 This fixes the 2012 Tampa Bay Rays pitcher stats with RISP omission ---
17/11/12 --- pitcher H/9 and HR/9 formula changes ---
23/11/12 --- v5 new fielding ability formula and changes to H/9 AND HR/9 ---
02/12/12 --- Have updated the file to include missing players and all players now have detailed personal information ---
Exceptional job man. I have made a few excel ratings calculators for NBA 2k and The Show. My thread is floating around in here somewhere. Mine is decent, but yours is awesome. Bravo!
I'm not a huge fan on some of the calculations as I just can't see how guys like Miguel Cabrera don't have contact in the 90s. You don't seem to utilize the full scale much so in sims I have seen with numbers like this (and I ran tons of sims of my own with my ratings calculator) that you really don't get the separation from the great players to the average players like you should.
Regardless, you did an amazing job.Comment
