Exceptional job man. I have made a few excel ratings calculators for NBA 2k and The Show. My thread is floating around in here somewhere. Mine is decent, but yours is awesome. Bravo!

I'm not a huge fan on some of the calculations as I just can't see how guys like Miguel Cabrera don't have contact in the 90s. You don't seem to utilize the full scale much so in sims I have seen with numbers like this (and I ran tons of sims of my own with my ratings calculator) that you really don't get the separation from the great players to the average players like you should.

Regardless, you did an amazing job.

Yeah I totally understand where you are coming from.....

The original calclulator used a true contact formula (from the baseball forecaster book) but I found with the higher ratings it gave, even "average" players had PCI's that were too big, right up to HoF level.

This meant that players tended to have good contact, even with pitches that they had no right to have good contact with, which in turn meant that I experienced the old, great contact but the ball goes like an arrow to the shortstop/outfielder etc.

(Even with this formula however, Cabrera would still only be 84/82, instead of 85/79)

Of course I could have started messing about with the solid hits slider etc. but I am not a fan of pissing about with sliders... excuse my Scottish!!

My other "problem" was that I wanted everything based around stats, which kind of limits what I can do, although it has the benefit of completely taking out my opinion of players, which being new to baseball, I don't really have anyway.

The calcultor is hopefully set up in such a way, so that people can alter the formulas in the Calcs tab to whatever they wish, as we all have our own ideas about how the game should be played.

Oh and I am always open to new formula ideas!!

Re: My Ratings Calculator v3 (with download)

A few people have asked about making the calculator work with older versions of Excel and with Open Office, so I have a version that has removed the IFERROR formulas that stop it from working properly.

Removing the IFERROR function does mean that if there is an error or missing stat etc, a hash error will come up instead. This means that the AVG and 3YR WGHT figure will only be accurate if the player has a full 4 years worth of figures (AVG) or the last 3 years worth of figures (3YR WGHT).

It does not affect individual yearly figures, so it should still be easy to come up with a suitable rating for players.

If anybody knows how to sort this problem in the older versions, any advice would be appreciated.

You can download this compatability version from the link below:

Awesome work. I'm not sure I agree with all of the formulas, but this is going to be huge for roster makers. Thanks so much.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

Have now added Bahnzo's formulas for Contact, Power, Vision, Discipline and pitcher's H/9, K9, BB/9, HR/9 ratings to the alternative formulas in the 'Calcs Tab'.

This latest version also fixes an error with the Pitching Stamina formula, which only becomes apparent if the pitcher has no 2012 stats.

Download from the link in the opening post.

(NB. still to add Bahnzo's formula to the older compatibility version.)

I don't know if others agree with me but Bryce Harpers speed should be higher than a 70.!

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

Using the calculator, Bryce Harper's speed comes out at 77 which I think isn't too bad for a rookie!!

Of course, we only have one seasons worth of data for him to go by and who knows what sort of figures he will put up this year, especially as he has bulked up.

The calculator is based solely on player statistics, so in that respect, it is limited by the stats a player puts up.

This does however mean that all players ratings it provides are relative and not based on estimates or guesses.

NB: when roster making, if a player only has one year of stats, I am inclined to only give him a figure that is about 95% of his rating, so in this case I would probably give Harper a 73.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

Here is one final update to the the calculator - unless I can fix the problem with speed figure displaying a 0 on years that there are no stats!!

New formulas now being used for:

                    Base Running Ability
                    Base Running Aggressiveness
                    Discipline
                    Bunting

(The old formulas have been moved to the the alternative formulas in the 'Calcs' tab.)

I have also slightly modified the formulas for:

                    Catcher Blocking
                    Reaction

You can download the new versions from the opening post and the "Compatabilty" version has also now been updated with these formulas, as well as Bahnzo's.

Hopefully the ratings will work ok with MLB 13 and having just got my game in the post today, I will soon find out!!

I am still not happy with the fielding ability and reaction ratings formulas and it will be interesting to see how they play in the game, as apparently player ratings will have a bigger affect on the new throwing meter.

If you have any thoughts, comments, suggestions or if you spot any errors then please post a message!!

Oh and remember the calculator is set up in such a way that if you are not happy with the formulas I use, they can be modified or changed in the 'Calcs' tab to your own liking, so that it provides the ratings you want!!

Sorry for being a total pain in the..... but I think I have solved the problem with the speed figure displaying a 0, even in years where there are no stats!!

Have uploaded the (hopefully) fixed versions and they can be downloaded from the links in the opening post.

Put my ratings into two teams, The Giants and The Tigers and played an exhibition match on HoF, that was a good competitive affair.

The game was won by The Giants (CPU) on a fielding error (using auto fielding) by a sub player who was playing out of position, in extra innings.

I did notice that with my ratings, no Tigers players were rated OVR 99 - top rated was Verlander on 98 and Cabrera was a 92.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

So, fixing the problem with the speed figure displaying a zero, even when there were no stats, actually created another one!!

The average speed figure is being calculated as if there are always four values, even when there aren't.

For example if the ratings on the HOME tab were -,-,20,20 it is being worked out as 40/4 = 10 which of course is wrong!!

To fix this error, please input this formula into the Spd Avg cell N12 on the HOME tab:

                          =IFERROR(AVERAGE(J12:M12),0)

This only applies to those using software that supports the IFERROR function.... Excel 2010 etc.

Alternatively, you can download a fixed version from the link in the opening post.

This is exactly what I was looking for Thanks for the effort you put into this!

I plan to take a look at some of the Mets minor leaguers another poster created without attributes and try to give them some for OSFM.

I see the ratings here are all based on MLB stats. I wouldn't want a .300 hitter in the Majors to have the same rating as a .300 hitter in AA so is there any good method to using this tool for ratings minor leaguers?

I downloaded but havent given it a look yet. I get the game tomorrow so I will soon, thank again!
