Now you still have show patience and at 3 I havent had any issues with Wp, bb ect as i once feared it being that low .
    hope this helps
    Exactly.

Lowering just Strike Frequency won't do much, because their balls/strikes will be borderline and make it difficult for you to determine a ball or strike so your'e forced to continue protecting the plate and still swinging at mostly everything.

The lower Consistency takes the "missed" balls, and puts them a bit more outside the zone, and just adds a better variety of balls. Comparing the pitching charts after a game, you can see it. Where before, the Balls are still concentrated mostly around the strike zone, where most of them are barely misses.

Re: Breaking this Game Down on AllStar ,group effort

Thanks for all the tips guys, I may just try out what you posted pbz06 but before doing that I want to see if by lowering the CPU Pitch Consistency slider to 4 will equal more walks, if I can get that then thats all Im looking for. My biggest fear is that back when I had this one at default I saw 1-2 wild pitches or passed balls per game on average so in my mind I figure that by lowering this another click will only equal out to even more passed balls and wild pitches, is this not the case though? Some of these sliders are damn confusing with the descriptions, especially for Consistency and Control as they both mention accuracy except one throws in the word "reliability" while the other doesnt, in my mind Im thinking what the hell does that mean? My hitting has been abysmal lately, Im talking hitting below .200 per game (minus the one game where I had something like 17 hits), and Im not walking either so its becoming a snooze fest right now. Again, thanks for the tips guys, I will work the changes into my game slowly to see what works and what doesnt.

EDIT- Ok, Im just going to give your pitching sliders a try pbz and report back on what I see..

      CPU Strike Frequency: 0 (-5)
      CPU Consistency: 3 (-2)
      CPU Control: 5 (0, default)

Thinking things over I think all the Pitch Control slider does is allow for more balls to light up as being in your wheelhouse more often and nothing more. Strike frequency will help get them to battle more and if Consistency allows them to miss their spots by a wider margin then, in theory, that should lead to more pitches to hit anyways.

Side question, with those settings is the CPU still just beating on the corners or are there pitches to be hit that are catching some of the plate? I hate to make changes at times, especially considering Im 9-3 right now so Im not struggling to win, but something has to give in terms of walks drawn and batting averages at some point.

If you're talking about the CPU throwing passed balls and wild pitches, then no. I can't say it's a problem at all. I can't recall it happening much at all. Maybe once a game. I think seeing 1 or 2 more passed balls from the CPU is the lesser evil when comparing it to a better overall pitching experience from the CPU in the balls/strikes department.

I leave the User pitching sliders at default for now.

I also thought it would be a problem but it isnt , I mean youll get a few balls in the dirt ect , it also depends on whos pitcher? but 5-3-0 is a perfect blend ! thanks

I just see a better variety. Don't know how to explain it more than that It all depends on the quality of pitcher and how his confidence is going and what kind of day you're having at the plate. The game is just too good and random each time out, so I can't say for sure.

The good pitchers like Halladay and Peavy are still around the strike zone, and pelt the corners and stuff. Pretty realistic if you ask me.

I've had games where their pitcher is struggling a bit to find the strike zone, dishing walks, and then laying meatballs in 3-1 counts before getting yanked in the 4th inning. I've also been shutout by their #5 guy too, which seemed to get trickier and more confident as the game went on.

But generally speaking, I just like the outcomes almost every time with the Sliders I recommended. I don't let one or two games be the deciding factors and "back to the drawing board".

I just think it's a good balance and mix of strikes/balls for al the different pitchers etc.

I mean, now it's a guessing game. Before, it was always 0-1 or 0-2 when taking pitches, sometimes you get lucky and get the rare 1-1 or 2-1 count, lol.

But now I see all sorts of counts. It could be 0-2, and I still have a chance of getting it to 3-2. Know what I mean.....

Before, at default, I would rarely see an at-bat with more than 3 pitches. Since they pound the zone or were very borderline, I pretty much was forced to swing and put the ball in play within the first 2 or 3 pitches.

Everything sounds good, I will hopefully get a game in here shortly as Im prepping for my fantasy baseball draft right now but if I do I will report back with what I see in the first game. It all makes sense on paper, I just want it to carry over to the field.

For the basics, I'm playing on All-Star with all the fancy stuff "off". No strike zones, no guess pitching, no hot zones, no API, no PCI etc. All that is optional though, so use it if you want.

I've been using the "meter" for pitching, but I'm contemplating on switching to "classic" to try it out for a bit. I've been having trouble getting in good rythms since every pitcher I use has different timings and motions. I think because the Confidence plays such a huge role this year, once I miss the accuracy bar a couple times, all hell breaks loose. So I'm thinking of trying out "classic" to see how it plays out for me.

As for Sliders, currently I'm using Blzer's GLOBAL slider changes, except I left the Pitch Speed on the default.

Right now I also have the User/CPU Sliders mostly at default, except for the CPU Strike Frequency (0), and CPU Consistency (3), as talked about in this thread. I also have the Reliever Stamina for both User and CPU at 0 too, and CPU pickoff tuned down (I think at 2 or 1).

With MLB 09, I focused more on the CPU pitching properly before I messed with any hitting sliders.

Now that I got the CPU to pitch the way I like it, I'm going to start on looking at hitting stuff. I will try out the All-Star sliders going on by Blzer, Psycho, and Dorismary to start. I've been following the threads and getting a feel for what they are seeing. I'll probably end up using my own "combo", since everybody's skill level also plays a big part in the hitting sliders. I think I'll focus more on the CPU first though.

Unfortunately, right now my PS3 is out of commission The lens for the disc reader broke a couple days ago, so I am in the process of sending it to Sony and getting it serviced. I won't be able to test anything for at least another 1.5 or 2 weeks. Although a buddy of mine is going out of town this week, so I'm trying to convince him to let me borrow his PS3, haha. We'll see.

So in summary, you really don't know what slider set you are using yet do you?

I'm considering tinkering the with CPU pitch consistency myself, I'm using the bulk of Psycho's sliders. I think they are really good. I've lowered the fielder arm strength by two though and of course I have the injury slider at -4. I'm not getting as many walks at -1 as I'd like but I'm not sure if that's the slider or my lack of patience. Might give it some more time before I make a decision on that.

I've decided to combine you guys sliders, Psycho's slider's, and my own. I'm not seeing enough walks and I need all the help I can get with my K/Walk ratio. So I'm going to go -2 on CPU consistency and -5 on strike perecentage.

                        Hope it works.

Im sure everyone plays differently but I play with auto baserunning, is the reason my runners are not attempting steals very often due to the pickoff attempt slider being too high? Maybe its just a by product of using auto baserunning I guess?

I tried a game with those pitching sliders mentioned above and they werent bad, I had to save the game in the top of the 9th but the CPU pitching was light years better in terms of variety of pitch counts. I only drew one walk but its fine as I can tell that there are walks to be had and its a much better representation of the majors as opposed to what I was seeing previously. As I continue to play I will report back on what I see but in the meantime if anyone can give some feedback about auto baserunning and stolen base attempts that would be much appreciated.

Chef you know you can steal with auto baserunning on don't you? You don't have to rely on the CPU to do it for you. I have SB frequency at default and they will go some but if I want to send my runner I'll just do it myself.

Damn, I forgot about that, what is it, L2? I really need to remember this as I keep forgetting and get too focused on just batting constantly.

Yeah L1 to lead off and L2 to steal.

If you want to freeze the pitcher while you get your lead and decide if you want to take off or not hold R2, then release it to continue.
