Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
Hmm maybe I'm just imagining things. I'm playing around in exhibition now and I dont even know what I'm seeing... but I'd swear the CPU is stealing more often with the slider at 0 than with it at 10.Comment

Only 20 games though, so I'm not convinced yet. I'll update my thread with new stats once I get ~ 50 games done.Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
I think a lot of the steal conversations fail to factor in BR Ability and BR Speed. The slider itself alludes to 'many factors'. What exactly that algorithm is, is left to be said. Another factor that I feel people fail to realize; almost everyone is playing with Throwing Errors raised - in my opinion this is directly related to the accuracy of the throw from the catcher on the steal attempt. (allowing for higher success)
Many of the slider sets I'm seeing have base runner speed lowered, but then have the (reversed?) steal ability slider decreased. This sorta confuses me. Moreover, the Frequency slider explicitly states that it has an impact on success (of repeated) steals. Again, a lot of guys are raising Frequency and shooting themselves in the foot - as it's decreasing the penalty on steal attempts.
Not to mention a lot of examples people are using (not simulated) are in exhibition without fatigue having an impact.Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
Bob, awesome writeup. Am sorry I didn't see it sooner. Lately, my issue has been pitching (I use meter). I am getting absolutely pounded. It seems that almost a third of the strikes I throw, seem to find their way to the middle of the plate, about belt high. And the cpu doesn't seem to be missing on many. For example, in my last game, Ruben Tejada hit two hr's. Yes, two. It just seems like everything I throw, is being hit.... hard.
After reading this, I would think pitcher consistency would be my first adjustment. Then, solid hits. What would you advise?Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
I definitely think you're right, Pitch Consistency sounds like your best solution. Just to be sure though, these pitches ending up meatballs are being aimed on the black? Are you already giving up a realistic number of walks? I ask because if you raise pitch consistency too much it may effect your walk totals and strike percentages and stuff. Pitch Control may or may not be the better idea, depending on how things are going.
As for the offense in itself, it's obligatory I first suggest you lower the difficulty level.
Solid Hits will help... how many strikeouts per game are you averaging?Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
Great thread Bobhead. I have great respect for your work and appreciate your insight. I have all my sliders exactly where I want them and am getting realistic scoring results, types of hits, ect. However, my power numbers are too low. Not just HR's, but even my line drives feel like they should be hit with more authority.
I'm using analog all-star hitting. My solid hits and foul frequency are at 3 with contact, power, stride, and timing all at default. I tried increasing timing to 6, but I was getting an unrealistic amount of balls hit dead center. Based off your analysis, I was thinking of increasing solid hits to 4, but don't want to lose the hit variety. I was also thinking about maybe raising power by 1. Thoughts?Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
Well Solid Hits will definitely increase overall offense, but in terms of actual line drives, MLB Avg is around 20% of balls in play. In my testing, The Show produces about a 10-15% range at default Solid Hits, on default All Star with Zone hitting. . It definitely changes with each difficulty, and I'd imagine it is different for Analog, but it's worth keeping that in mind.Comment

Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders
Bobhead,
you said in your explanation that contact effects batting avg, but is this only with timing hitting?
You said contact does not affect avg if your using zone pitching?
On everything default I'm hitting the ball quite hard but its almost always at someone, i get like 2 hits a game. But i rarely strike out and I'm on rookie hitting. What should i adjust? It really can't be me so much cuz everything is hit, hard, at a player.Comment
