Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
This edition of the game might be a simple matter of "getting with the (new) program" and using the new take on classic (Pulse) or crank up those HUM control / consistency sliders higher than in the past...
After a bunch of years with the series, handfuls of franchises and hundreds of played games, this is the first year I feel like almost every pitch is a "chuck and duck"...
Other than that, this thing is playing better than ever...so I really need to find a system that works for me...pronto!Last edited by KingV2k3; 04-13-2012, 03:51 PM.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
This thread was started to see if classic pitching needed slider adjustments. So to stay on topic relating to sliders, so far I would agree with H&V,
it doesn't need adjustments when playing on AS.
HOF might be a different can of worms though...Madden Breakdowns Full YOUTUBE Playlist

I gotta say that I also am in agreement with the vast majority of the statements made here fellas. I gotta let you all know that since I started using Authentic and I live for this' sliders using classic pitching I have had a great variety and really fun games. I can get a hitter to chase out of the zone on a hammer or a slide piece, or I can toss up a straight heater and whiff Bruce, Votto, Kemp anyone really. Its all about knowing when and where to throw the ball. I have gotten shelled as well so there is the variety.
My controller doesnt vibrate so I just go off of feel. I think I play on HOF with control and consistency at whatever their default slider is. I know it was edited.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
There was definately a bit of difference there going back to AS. I was messing about with the ILive and Authentic sim sliders, which are quite a challenge, and they called for HoF pitching.
I still have human pitching control and consistancy at 6-6, not at default yet. Results were better. My dominate pitcher felt dominate, he still was wild at times, gave up a pair of runs on some garbage hits, when I couldnt find the plate, walk a guy, and had to just lob it in to stop throwing balls.
But then regained control. Ended up striking out 8 or so. I think I also need to take into account that my skill with this game is just not as good as some people here. HoF hitting seems quite hard, yet so many people say they get good results. I do know that HoF pitching is way above my head.

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
I felt that those settings were too much for me with Authentics sliders, so I kept the ball marker and the strike zone on. I guess the short story is I need to figure out this x button press timing. Because I must have it very wrong, because I just dont get any sort of control.
I have been practicing using practice mode, and pitching simulated games, trying to see if I can get the hang of this, because for me it is very very difficult.I will see you at THE SHOW!!Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
Man!!! Boston, Texas, and Detroit!!! I've been getting smoked.
My respectable team 3.80 - 3.95 ERA has skyrocketed to 4.30 something. Thanks to Michael Pineda, almost completely on his own, by the way. Wouldn't it be cool if sending down guys in this series could help them work out "kinks?" LOL! Manny Banuelos or Dellin Betances may be getting a call up sometime soon. Just saying.
Seriously, when I post my end of month stats in the Franchise Progress Thread; if I have time, I'll post it with and without Pineda's numbers. It's mind-boggling. He's given up 8 (yes 8 HR's) in April.
But he does lead my team in K's. So yeah, I guess that's something.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
I've been playing default Veteran and getting good results, but I decided to go up to All-Star to see how it is. I've been getting hammered. Even with good pitchers like Hudson, pitches are all over the place - regardless of confidence level. And just about everything the CPU hits seems to be a rocket somewhere. I don't know how you guys do it on All-Star. I'm going back to Veteran.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
I just purchased the video game and a PS3 on Sunday and been playing all week and needing to learn how to pitch. I have always played the other game and used classic pinpoint pitching. It says if you use classic it will be like meter, but if you are not good at meter it is better than using meter. I like to aim and throw. In the other game if you hold the button down it will allow you to be more pinpoint and the pitch is more effective, but on this if you hold it down you throw harder but the the pinpoint sucks. The one difference I see are the arrows. I line up the arrows and throw and it is nowhere near where the arrows were pointing or the ball was when I started the pitch. So if anyone can help me pitch and let me know what the arrows mean, how I should aim, tap or hold the button, etc...
Also I cheated and made my pitcher all 99 on all pitches and made the sliders where you could not throw balls and even 0 the BB/9 and still threw balls.
Thanks in adavanceComment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
Help anyone? I am looking to find out do I aim the ball or the arrows when I am pitching? It feels like it doesn't matter what I line up as it never goes anywhere close. I made all my pitchers 99 and on easy mode, sliders are set to high and still it goes everywhere but where I point. I use a tap, full throttle, 1/2, 1/3/, 1/4, 3.144444444/4 of the power and still the ball travels. Also like others say it is in the strike zone and called a ball. I thought 2k was lazy and didn't change enough so I bought a PS3 on CL for $135 (120g so I got a great deal) and the game new and $200 down I am not to happy with my purchase. The videos on YouTube is so much better than playing this game.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012
I only get 5,000 characters for a PM?!?!?!
Forget that! I'm not a quick to the point kind of guy.
Here are some tips I've learned along the Default AS Classic pitching journey:
First, I want to preface with a reminder that Classic pitching is largely ratings and confidence dependent. It's a varied interface, and your results will change greatly on a game-to-game and pitcher-to-pitcher basis. That said, it's results on AS are incredibly true to life, and I believe with a few pointers, anyone has to ability to truly reflect the player's attributes like no other interface currently available.
Do not go in expecting consistent contol. And do not expect to master the interface. There's nothing to master (which is exactly what I love about it!). During stretches you'll inevitably feel like you have it completely down. 10 game periods where you're Mr. Stud, and the CPU is Mrs. Minor Leagues.Until...well, David Aardsma for some reason looks like a good relief pitching option. 1 out and 7 runs later, you'll see what I mean. And stretches like that can last too. And it's frustrating. But that is baseball. But no worries, you'll dominate too, and the feeling is remarkable.
Savor your wins. But most importantly, savor your losses. With Classic it actually feels good to lose, because you know you simply just got out played or that your pitcher just didn't have his 'A-game.' Not becuse of your meter or pulse timing or how far away your GF made you move your couch away from the TV. LOL!
1. Don't nibble...unless confidence and/or pitch confidence is high, or the count is in your favor, or a BB is the best option in the situation. I like to aim the ballmarker (which I leave ON) within the area of the strike zone in which I want the ball to land in. Notice how I did not say that I pitch to the black (unless the above has occured). 3-0 and 3-1, especially in a circumstance where a walk is a bad idea, I actually bring the ballmarker even closer to the middle of the zone. This is the nature of the interface. This is why it's tip number 1.
2. Pay attention to individual pitch confidence. Because the interface is largely ratings and circumstance dependent, you need to go with what works when you are in dire need of something working. From the very beginning of the game, I intentionally try to ensure that I have at least two pitches with good overall pitch confidence (ideally one straight, and one offspeed). To build up the other pitches, early on I like to find low risk situations to use them in. That way, I have something else to fall back on when (A) I need to mix up my strategy up and (B) the originally confident pitches aren't working any longer.
3. Effort. Maximum effort is reflected by a vibration on your dual-shock controller after hold X to throw. If you do not have a vibrating controller, maximum effort is also always a one second count. This never varies under any circumstance.
As a general rule of thumb, unconfident pitches seem to be more accurate when X is held longer than just a gentle tap. Though this isn't always the case, low confidence pitches tend to miss their mark by a wider margin when minimal effort is used.
Once your pitch confidence is built up, you'll notice how much more accurate and remarkably effective mixing up your release point can be. Example: Long hold on X for a swinging strike change up can easily be followed up with a light tapped one to completely fool the hitter if they are set up properly. This is when you'll know that you have dominate stuff that day (or moment, at least), and it's a great feeling.
4. Bullpen management. Know when to call it a day with your pitcher. From the 6th inning forward, I like to have two relivers ready to go at all times. Even if you are dealing, if you start an inning out with a walk and a hit, it might be time to make a pitching change if a win can easily be taken off the table. Mound visits are also crucially important; it may just give your guy that extra overall confidence to get through that particular part of the game. Never leave in a pitcher only to pad his stats. Fatigue also plays a major role here too. Even during a dominate outing, pay extra close attention to how your guy is reacting to being tired.
5. Use your warm up pitches. With this interface, knowing what kind of stuff your arm has that particular day is sometimes essential when you are facing big-time, game changing moments. Practice on your release points there, and get an idea for what's working, what isn't, and which way the pitch is moving depending on when you're releasing X. If the ball is tailing up after a light tap, you can use this to your advantage. Discovering this mid at-bat can be a recipe for disaster.
6. Overall confidence. I know I probably don't need to tell you about the importance of pitcher confidence, so I will make this section brief. Just know that if your pitcher is dealing, you'll have a ton more flexibility with all of the tid-bits I'm writing out. And inversely, a lot less if overall confidence is shot.
7. The Pitcher Analysis Screen. It is not given to us for show, it's given to us for a reason. After you get through the order, take a look at where you are trending during early/ahead/behind/full count situations. Even breaking one of your patterns even just during one at-bat can make the difference between a hit and a strikeout, or even a win or a loss.
I use the API, but usually just as a guide. Again, if I'm in a bind, I go with what's working. Not what the catcher wants (though sometimes what he wants is better than what I end up going with). Trust your baseball IQ.
8. Struggling? Don't blame youself. If you get beat up badly, just remember that dominate and beat-down type variation is apart of the nature of this interface, and more importantly, the nature of real baseball. Promise yourself that whatever happens, you will accept it for what it is. Good or bad. No resets, no restarts, and no controller hurling. A FA, a Minor Leage call up, or a trade are a much better and less expensive option. And way more fun too!!!
I generally only play one game per day. So essentially a poor pitching stretch occuring over 10 games in The Show literally takes a week and a half in real life time. That's a long time to stew in interface doubting, wanting to slider tweak, or change difficulties. I can assure you, if you ignore those feelings the payoff is enormous. Your video game world will be one filled with happiness, whether or not you win or lose 10-2...three games in a row. In the end, the stats WILL balance out. I assure you. Don't be your own enemy. Accept the outcomes for what they are. I cannot stress that enough.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 05-07-2012, 05:28 PM.Comment
