Re: Armor & Swords/Marino's - MLB The Show 13 Timed/Classic Sim Sliders

Took a no hitter with Josh Johnson of the Jays into the 7th against the Marlins.
I was up 7-0 with some timely hitting with RISP and a 3 run bomb by Encarnacion.
Johnson was gassed headed into the 7th (must have been the 7 walks, yikes!) but I left him in.
Got the first out of the inning and then Juan Pierre lined one up the middle that went off Johnson and rolled towards Lawrie at 3rd. The throw was late and ther no-hitter was gone. Following a strikeout Stanton hit a hard grounder to third that Lawrie missed. Scored a single so it was time to take out Johnson (why does that sound dirty?)
Had to leave so I simmed to the end. My bullpen gave up 3 in the 8th but that was it.
Such a great variety of games with these sliders and still haven't really seen anything out of place or weird happenings. Actually saw my first foul tip strikeout in my last game.

Re: Armor & Swords/Marino's - MLB The Show 13 Timed/Classic Sim Sliders

To get a good feel for the set I found the most middle of the road offensive and pitching team possible on the first roster update. I chose the D'backs as they were very close to 15th in most categories. These results are from the first set of sliders posted by A&S/Marino with no changes to the sliders/settings. To best judge my performance to real life I played a 29 game season with the D'backs (1 gm vs every team). I also mixed up the stadiums when I was at home (to reduce stadium skews)

So I realize that some of this info may be a little late as some changes have already been made to the sliders but I still believe this information to still be very valuable. I have been playing MLB the show since before it had the "the Show" in the title (I believe since the '05) and I have a very good baseball background (college & minor league experience). I have always played with Zone hitting but have made the switch to Timing per A&S's high regard on the mode. I had used Classic pitching for most of the '11 and '12 games. Here are the results:

Note: The first row is the ACTUAL results from the 29 game season. The 2nd row shows those results extrapolated to a 162 game season. The 3rd row shows the 2012 Major league average for comparison.

I am obviously very happy with the offensive results, though the extra base hits were a bit low. From the pitching side walks are still way too low and HR against are still low as well.

If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears! Thanks guys for listening and thanks to A&S and Marino for such a quality set!!!

These sliders are absolutely killing me. My pitching is way too good, which I'm fine with, however, because I can't hit anything whatsoever. In 6 games I've scored 1, 0, 1, 1, 2, and 0 runs with one HR total with Stanton. I guess I'll try the hybrid version, because I don't know how anyone hits on All-Star.

Re: Armor & Swords/Marino's - MLB The Show 13 Timed/Classic Sim Sliders

I have a small 5 game sample size playing as the Reds, but I'm a little too good (and I consider myself an average player). I'm 4-1 with the following team ranking...

BA .294 6th
R 36 T-2nd
H 50 8th
2B 10 t-10th
HR 12 1st
RBI 34 4th
BB 3 Last (showing I'm a hacker)
K 37 t-23rd
Slug .576 2nd
TB 98 3rd
ERA 2.87 5th
Hits Allowed 33 t-1st

I'm doing a little too well at the plate and on the field.

I would definitely try the hybrid set. I was on allstar at first because I thought the CPU pitching approach felt better on that level but with the toned down offensive sliders the hybrid set plays just as good. Plus it takes out a lot of the frustrations of not being able to hit.
On allstar there were times where I couldn't tell the difference if my 3 hitter or 9 hitter was at the plate, basically from my own lack of skill which made every player hit the same......bad.
With the hybrid set I know my chances of a hit are much greater with a guy like say Cano is up as opposed to Cervelli.
Hybrid makes the games fun and competitive with pretty realistic results. As I mentioned a few posts ago I have never enjoyed this game (or any version of it) as much as I am now.

If I am always early on the swing do I need to up pitch speed???

Also what does XP points do? I can't seem to find its use anywhere

Hey Armour, I basically need to double my pitched walks (from 1.76 BB/9 to 3.05 BB/9) I'm thinking I need to do something drastic to reduce my command. I already have the pitch cursor off. I don't foresee one click down for control and consistency (the changes made from the original slider set) resulting in twice as many pitched walks. Do you have any recommendations -4?, -5?? Or move to HOF Pitching and reduce cpu contact/timing? I'm thinking if I get my walks straightened out my pitched HRs will raise to where they should be.

I believe I used classic pitching on HOF last year but this will throw many of the sliders off. I'm already giving up a few too many hits as is.

If you're giving up too many hits and too few walks, it may be an issue of your approach. Try to throw more balls outside the zone to get guys to chase.

Not using these sliders but I do use timing hitting/classic pitching heres my opinion:

I had this problem too and no sliders really fixed it alone the way you would think. The reason for this is that the CPU is not scoring enough or enough of a threat against you, so you don't feel the need to pitch outside. You should be throwing waste pitches having the CPU get into more deep counts. If you are just attacking the zone nonstop and getting away with it then the CPU is not very good at hitting. I would recommend boosting the CPU contact or solid hits.

Once they start hitting you harder then you will start to pitch on the corners more, and outside the zone. There should be many times when you purposely throw a pitch outside the strike zone.

The only way to have your pitcher throw more walks is to change the way you approach the batters, and that is done by making them better hitters

Im using:
Human Pitcher Control - 4
Human Pitcher Consistency - 4

CPU Contact - 6
CPU Power - 5
CPU Timing - 5
CPU Foul Frequency - 7
CPU Solid Hits - 5

its challenging and you have to focus 100% but I like it that way. rather it be too hard than too easy

In my last 2 games with these sliders I've walked 7 with Josh Johnson of the Jays (final total was 9 but I had to sim the last 2 innings) and 6 (5 by Kershaw and 1 by league) so the user issued walks are certainly there.

I don't disagree that there are user issued walks in the game, and I am not throwing dirt on these sliders as I really like what is here. However with the sliders at 5 & 5 as they were under the original set, I just didn't see 9 and 6 walk games and if I did it would be counterbalanced with many 0/1/2 walk outings. I pitched every pitch of every game in my short 29 gm season with the D'backs and had the following:
2 games with 5 BB's issued
1 game with 4 BB's issued
4 games with 3 BB's issued
9 games with 2 BB's issued
7 games with 1 BB's issued
6 games with no walks issued
Every player is different and will get different results with the same sliders. This is just my experience. A&S lowered user pitch control on the most recent set so I'm obviously not alone.

That sounds simple enough however, I'd like to avoid artificially increasing my walk totals. You shouldn't be trying to give up walks while you are playing, they should just happen. Similar to what BrianU said, I'm thinking I may have to lower control AND up CPU power a bit so that I would be a bit more afraid of the pitches that drift back over the middle. I more or less pitch to the corners but when they missed middle I really didn't get hurt if anything they were just base hits. Does anyone have some team statistics that they could share from where they've played (and not simmed) and have a larger sample size say 20+ games? It would be great to compare. In the end I'll probably have to tweak the sliders towards my own liking just as many others do but I really like this set, especially offensively. I have found that timing hitting is MUCH HARDER than zone hitting IMO and really provided a challenge and a change from what I was used to.

I have this issue, as well. Thru 7 1/2 games, I've given up only 3 HR's with the Reds.

Hey All,

Just wondering have others tried these with the Vita? I did for my first three game series (I know small sample size) and swept the Yankees. Where generally I stink at anything above Veteran I was surprised by this. I know that the two systems will play different but just wanted to get others opinion on how they translated to the vita for them. The sliders were great as far as stats go except for the fact that the Yankees only scored 3 runs in the 3 games which was my major source for concern. They did out hit me (again not hard to do). Thanks!!
