One question, have you done any sims? If your line shows a nice correlation, that's good, but it doesn't say anything about how accurate stats from these ratings would be in game. I would be interested in seeing what your league stats look like in some sims with these ratings.

I've already re-done knight's scales (so that they're based on rate stats rather than raw numbers--all normalized to 600 PA) based on some things we saw last year with making the Hybrid set (BBs originally being too low, SBs being too low etc).

Comparing your DISC ratings with mine, they're actually pretty close, but your top of scale guys and bottom of scale guys are a bit exaggerated from mine, which means your slope is steeper. For example, your Joey Votto DISC would be 133 using that formula and mine is 117. Your Trout would have 99 DISC and mine has 92 DISC. For the guys in the 50/60/70/80 region, our scales are quite similar. I am getting the inputs from ZiPS projections for this year.

As for your VIS scale, that formula produces ratings that are 5-10 points higher than what I have for guys over 50 VIS. For strikeout kings, our rating methods produce a similar outcome. I'd be reticent to raise VIS 5-10 points per player seeing what's going on in MLB as of late. Strikeouts seem to be only going up.
Last time I checked, 10% was 0.10 so no need to divide by 100...

Again, I'm not trying to come up with a completely new ratings scale, I'm trying to align the OSFM ratings closer to the default ratings and find out exactly how the devs come up with said ratings. These "formulas" are nothing more than tabulating the default vision and discipline ratings and trying to fit them to K% and BB%.

The scale being used by the devs isn't all-encompassing and has a fixed maximum and minimum, which is why seven players in the game have a 99 discipline rating despite Votto having far and away the best BB% (the cap is probably around 14.5%). On the other end, the bare minimum rating is a 25, which equates to ~2.3% (Josh Harrison's BB%).

Like I mentioned in my previous post, in the last stream it was evident that there is some subjectivity involved in the default ratings, which is why I'm not too hung up on having a 100% correlation. Since the ratings in The Show represent a range and not absolute hard numbers, being off here and there doesn't really matter to me as long as the overall numbers look good? How many minor leaguers have Votto's plate discipline or Juan Pierre's vision (which is pretty bang on)?

To Ridin - last year there was a change to the ratings that dropped pitching ratings and raised a few hitter ratings (vision, discipline, and possibly power and contact). Knight's charts haven't been updated to reflect these changes, which is basically what I am trying to do. First step is to figure out what stats are being used to determine ratings, next is to fit a line to the data. Straying too far from the default ratings will have no effect on the league deeper into franchise once there are a good number of drafted players.

If anyone remembers when Nomo was doing this a few years ago, this is basically the same thing. Obviously his data is out of date, hence the new data.

Ratio =/= percent. If people were to enter the BB% directly as given on any statistical website, it would not work with your formula. Hence dividing by 100 is necessary before converting to ratings. You should change your formula to (BB%/100) so people don't need to think too much. Or just plug your x-axis in as percentages and not ratios as you've done.

Which is why I keep asking for sim stats. Nobody cares how any of this is derived as long as the players play to their talents in game.

My apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but is there a general timeline to when these will be finished? Not rushing y'all or anything, just trying to plan out what Im going to do first when I get the game. I appreciate everyone involved in making this happen!

I want to preface this by saying I'm not being an *******. But the answer is it will be finished when it will be finished. These guys don't like to give out projected release dates because people will get pissed when it isn't released on that day.

Does anyone have a plan to incorporate new prospects into a 2014 carry over save file for 2015 ? Ex. Rusney Castillo , young talent. Thanks

While I don't think that'll work due to 'too many cooks in the kitchen,' I am looking forward to seeing data on how seanjeezy's ratings play with the sim engine.

In other words, if you edit a (decent size sample) test group of players to have ratings derived from seanjeezy's formulas, then how good are the sim stats? Does Trout become more Trout-like? Or less? Does Kershaw become more Kershaw-like? Or less? Do they play more life-like than what's been already done with the ratings from the Hybrid rosters from last year in the spreadsheet?

If ratings based on these new formulas are better than what we've been using, then I am all for switching. If not, I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel. Our only goal should be getting it the best we can get it, but that means it needs to be tested beyond fitting trendlines and achieving high R^2 values. We need to see/compare some sim stats to find out for sure.

We will be creating 2 new threads in the next week to discuss "expectations" for the roster this year. One will discuss ratings and potentials while the other will discuss CAP, mainly focussing on faces, service time players, player ages etc.

It won't be anything terribly new to the guys who are vets at this, but more or less a way to filter discussions and try to ensure we have a level of continuity with the roster this year.

Also - we are still looking for someone to take the Rockies

They were still free as of a couple days ago, so I signed up to do them because I didn't know if you'd be back this year. That being said, you've worked hard on them for years and I don't want to take that away, so you can do them again. If I can help you in any way let me know!

Idk if there should be a new thread for the equipment, but for you guys creating Yasmany Tomas he is wearing Under Armour batting gloves, New balance Cleats (not in game so I would use Generic 1 cleats), Shin Guard (inside all black) Small Elbow guard that is black. His mitt I believe is Rawlings, but I'm not 100% sure.

                            Mitt http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/ne...hoto/465812584

He's been wearing this style the last week or so. (same UA glove style as Buster Posey)

I know some of the equipment is going to be difficult to find for created players. So I figured if I see something I'd post it. We also don't know yet if SCEA will include licensed gear with the players they add through weekly roster updates.

Yeah I figured we would wait until the game drops so we know what exact brands are in and go from there. I will ALWAYS post pictures like this instead of doing everything in text (unless I can't find a picture of course) I feel it's easier this way. I think once the game drops I'll start an equipment thread. Obviously some if not most minor leaguers are going to be hard to find equipment for, in some cases so the more people to post info the better.

I'll still post pictures in here as I go just so we have a note of it.
