I never touch potentials, because then that eliminates the chance for busts, or gems. I think it's cool that you will see guys with A potential getting picked in the 2nd or 3rd round, and guys with C potentials in the 1st round. Teams make mistakes and draft busts all the time.
1st round, college aged player = Mid 60's-74 (depends on position, slot, etc)
1st round, high school aged - 60-63 (sometimes as high as 69-70, in those Bryce Harper/Mike Trout types)
The higher the pick, the higher the overall.
So if the 1st pick is an 18 year old, he'll be a 63. If it's college aged, he'll be a 72-74. But if he's a C potential, and a 72-74. Well, you just have to accept the fact that you likely used your 1st pick on a guy who is close to being maxed out, doesn't pan out, etc, it happens, that's baseball.
The architect of the player is basically how you see fit. A utility player isn't going to be drafted (intentionally) high in the 1st round. Teams look for that No.1 or No.2 stuff from pitchers, or players who are power/average combos, or five tool players.
I was having good success doing this in my franchises, before I just got fed up with the minor league/development (or lack of)
Also, if a team picks a RELIEF PITCHER in the first two rounds, I automatically edit him into a starting pitcher for that team. It drives me crazy, that this game will have teams selecting relief pitchers as Top 10 overall picks.
Just use your cell phone, and take pictures of the draft re-cap rounds, so you know who picked who, and in what round. It takes about an hour, hour and a half to do this. It's worth it to me.
