    1,000 Hour MLB Roster 2021

Love these!!!! You have done an amazing job, man! I'm all about ratings and you nailed it. You took care of the ridiculous amount of overrated (too many 90+ rated players.) Phenomenal. I went in and manually injured the players that are out for over 30 days. I'm seriously considering just rolling with these in my new 2021 franchise. I already played 2 full seasons (every pitch/every game) and ready for a new start.

I really don't track the nuisances of specific equipment or hair styles so I have no clue if this is as good as the ratings. I'm not knocking folks that place a high value on that for sure. Just more positive feedback on the ratings.

One question, did you simulate multiple seasons to see how it stacked up to 'Real Life?:

Re: 2021 Update Roster for MLBTS 20

I simulated 5 seasons and the overall rating progression seemed fine. Yeah I figured the best way to make it have some longevity was to give only the 10 best players a 90+ w/potential to scale. I did the same with the Top 100 prospects. Like...Mike Trout is a 99, and he's the only one. The only prospect with the same potential was Wander. I feel like A potentials should be special and so I limited it to around 20 total.

I try to keep 70 OVR as the lowbar for MLB players. Everything else is kinda based on that.

      90+ Superstar/franchise player
      85-89 All-Star, star player
80-84 Good MLB player, on the cusp
      75-79 Above avg MLB player
      70-74 Avg. player/fringe AAAA guy

That's basically how I scale things.

Re: 2021 Update Roster for MLBTS 20

I like the fact you use some common sense in your approach.

In my classic files I have a personal system I use:

Pitchers are based on ERA and hits-to-innings pitched. I figure those are the two key statistics to getting something realistic. So I scale them from the 90's ratings (ERA of 1 or 2) and then slide it down (so, a 3.2 ERA would have an 88 rating). I then go back and look at strikeouts and walks and then scale from there.

Hitters are based on batting averages, homeruns hit and stolen bases. I use 50 as the base number as a .200 average. So anything under gets basica splits under 50 (and I get this is a bit subjective, the the simulations play out great). One thing I learned in my latest 1996 file was raising the baserunning aggression for players who more doubles (and even triples). So, their power doesn't really need raised, but the aggression has them taking that extra base.

If you want to look at any of them, just download my 1996 file, and then pull up baseball-reference and look at the ratings to the statistics. It's pretty easy to recognize the approach I took.

Again, I'm just one person and they are NOT close to perfect - but it's a video game, and it's fun and they really make the game come to life.

Lastly, I don't get too consumed with the OVERALL rating. That's not a wise approach. Because then you starting having to make a player do something that he's not good at if your objective is the overall number. (so a guy who is a lousy fielder but a good hitting - to get the overall up you're going to have raise attributes you shouldn't).

This sounds like the way to go. I never even thought about the ratings making the game play that much different until I started to read through these threads. The one about how many A potentials there are is mind blowing really. And the base running Aggressiveness makes total sense.

Is this roster Full Minors as well or just the 40 man?

Looking forward to trying these out too. I know this question was just asked, so I’m sorry for asking it again...are the Minors re-rated too? Or just the 40?

I re-rated every team's entire roster, yeah. Minors are current with newest Top 100 and every team's Top 20-30. All the international FAs on their teams too, except Colas. He's not signed with a team yet but there are nice CAPs of him in the vault.

I also updated a ton of faces of prospects and got pretty much every guy's updated equipment. If I missed anything I apologize.

Gotta say I love these rosters. I went ahead and started my “2021” franchise with these. Everything looks good and I really like the ratings. I will say though they make my slider set REALLY bad haha. So I have some tweaking to do but out of 162 games I’ll figure it out. Nice work.

Thanks and I'm glad you like 'em. I think this past year's game was the first time I spent more time tweaking and editing than actually playing. Roster editing calms my nerves for some reason.

I've spent the past couple weeks researching the Pirates, with closest attention paid to their farm system / prospects, etc.

Based on your avatar of choice, I figured you'd nail all that and to my eye, looks like you sure did!

Are you planning on doing any updates to the roster to include recent moves like T. Cahill signing?

If not, is he on the FA list when one boots up a franchise?

                      Continued thanks!

I actually have an update for today. Yeah, Cahill is a Pirate. It's tough because they have soooo many half decent prospects at the lower levels that deciding whom to dump when they sign someone is hard. I figure things will shake out more closer to April because they have a lot of fringe guys who either have no options left or are not on the 40-man. I also adjusted some stances based on watching this week's games. Cole Tucker likes to tinker with his a lot, so it's a chore to stay up to date with him. Also, Ke'Bryan is using a leg kick now so that's included. I am gonna watch them play the Phillies today, then take pics of anything different on my phone.

Look for version 2 soon. Will update this thread. I've also been going through every non-pitcher on my roster just to see if they have Generic bats. I hate it for some reason. And although some bat brands aren't on '20, I'd rather give a guy a real brand and make the logo invisible than seeing Aaron Judge use a The Show bat because Chandler isn't on the game.

So yeah, I'm still grinding away. I somehow got lucky and have a ps5 coming Thursday, but plan on keeping these rosters up to date and fresh just in case '21 is lacking. I will let you guys know when the new version hits the vault.

And Armor....thanks. Your stamp of approval on these boards means a lot. Glad you like them.

Great set as I have stated earlier. What do you recommend for a slider set? Most attributes are lower on this roster compared to the default roster so I am interested to see what you recommend. My sliders that I have used for a long time are: HoF - Classic/Directional (same for Human and CPU) - Contact, Timing at 5 and Power/Solid Hits/Foul Frequency at 4. Pitching default, except stamina at 6......I made one change now since using your roster... I moved Power up one to default........any recommendations or observations?

As much as I'm amped to get started, I'm also amped to see that you're going to giving PIT the extra / extra TLC.

As easy as it would be to just sign Cahill from FA, the ensuing moves regarding the 40 Man and Call Up / Send Downs for a team I'm not as familiar with, would be a much appreciated tune up.

While we're at it, I do have two questions re: Nick Gonzales:

I've read a couple projections that place him as MLB Ready by '23 and rank him as second only to Hayes and ahead of Cruz on their prospect list.

I'd think that'd place him higher than your current 62, MAYBE in the 66-68 OVR range going into '21 or so would make him MLB caliber in a couple seasons?

I'm tempted to give him a bump, but wanted to get your take, if you have one.

His second position is currently listed as 2B / 3B as well.

I'm guessing 3B / SS might be more accurate?

                                Agree?

I play this title every other year and always adjust at least a few things.

This year, with this roster, All Star Default is gonna be all I need.

This roster's ratings smoothed out everything that I was thinking might need tinkering.

                                Continued thanks.
