How’s everyone striking people out with “classic pitching” and contact on 7. Sliders seem to be working great but it is incredibly difficult to get them to swing and miss, even when pitching outside the zone.

Enjoying it. I'm getting swinging strikes and backwards k's. Actually kinda refreshing not having to use the pin point.

Jose Ramirez was tricky because since he's such a great baserunner, he would get a 99, but if you look at his sprint speed, he's not necesserily that fast. So, the rule is that if our in-house speed value is 25 points higher than the player's sprint speed, we use sprint speed. Same thing applies to Jonathan Villar. We don't want to inflate too much, but think players should get credit for more than just sprint speed.

If you wanted to use sprint speed only, the formula is:
        (Sprint Speed * 13)-300

We used the higher sprint speed of the past 2 seasons (2021 and 2020) unless the player is a rookie, where we used 2022 sprint speeds.

So, if we use the highest of the 2022 and 2021 sprint speed averages, you'll get:
Jarran Duran - 29.3 sprint speed, 81 speed rating
Trevor Story - 28.7 sprint speed, 73 speed rating
Franchy Cordero - 28.7 sprint speed, 73 speed rating

Thank you for that explanation. Totally see trying to marry baserunning IQ with raw speed.

Excellent formula explanation as well, I shall begin warming up the calculator and testing my new-found mathematics skills!!

        Thanks for the break down.

Hey Cycloniac, curious about what the reasoning behind having cpu manager hook at 0 whole simming. First few weeks into my franchise and I’ve seen a good amount of 8 ip games and cgs. Thanks bud!

DetroitStyle did a ton of testing and stat tracking for how the game's sim engine works. Here's what he said:

            SP/RP Stamina: 5
            Hook: 0

Here are the 3 year MLB team averages along with the single season sim results. Each sim was run multiple times and the results were averaged out.

            Stat/Sim/Real Life

            BA/.258/.248
            Runs/736/746
            ERA/4.27/4.30
            Strikeouts/1436/1402

Both runs and ERA are darn near perfect. Well within a standard deviation of the MLB 3 year average. Strikeouts and batting average are high, more than 2 standard deviations but in game results are negligible.

So team stats are perfect, how does it affect individual stats - the outliers on the bell curve?

Terrific! There's a lot of randomness to each sim but overall im seeing 10-15 pitchers with over 200+ innings. I'm seeing a great variety of 200+ strike out pitchers including some that hit 280 or more. Obviously complete games and shutouts are high but that's a sim engine limitation. I would also like to see more sub 3.00 ERAs and it's a different variety each sim but not quite enough.

Batting stats look good overall. Averages are sometimes too low with only a few getting above .300 but then I have sims where there's about 8-10 over .300.

If I had one recommendation it would be single out 20-30 players for stat boosts that can affect batting averages. I tried raising contact +10 for a few dozen players but the sim engine is difficult to manipulate. Not sure if there's other batter ratings at play that can help.

The idea being you can raise averages to get more outliers hitting .300+ consistently without affecting team averages since it's only a handful of players.

Regardless of individual player performance, the sliders combined with the rosters provide a near true to life, or at least believable, MLB statistical universe!

Cycloniac did a tremendous job with these rosters. The difference in franchise sims between these and the Live rosters are night and day.
So you'll see a few more CGs and SOs, but this is a limitation of the sim engine, and it's necessary for the rest of the stat outputs to be most in line with MLB averages.

If you browse through I think pages 30-35 or so of this thread, you can see my discussion with him and the results we got with different sim slider settings.

I don’t want to turn this into a slider post but I had to adjust these. But I’m also just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

I’ve played 10 games without touching anything and I have 4 games in a row without scoring runs. I get hits. But they’re usually blooper hits. Very few solid hits and or home runs. I’ve hit balls with “good” timing that are pitches right down the middle. They’re usually pop flies to the outfield. Even some hits I had are perfect timing and the outfield will run them down. Now the compute on the other hand. Have hit maybe 2 home runs and don’t get many doubles or extra base hits. But I get singled to death on blooper hits. Usually on pitches outside of the zone. Also I’m getting a ton of at bats with 8-9 pitches. They foul off EVERYTHING. I upped human solid hits (3) and power (5). Lowered cpu contact (6) and upped their power one (5)

This all being said I’m having a blast with these rosters and sliders. I think it’s close. I’m sure it’s just the difference in style of play and level of play of course. Great work on these. I’m definitely going to enjoy these sets with tweaking to my own game play style.

I’ve played 10 games with the rosters/sliders, and I noticed somewhat the same. Both my team and the opponent are averaging 10+ hits a game, with the vast majority being ground ball singles through the hole. I have given up maybe 3 HRs in total, but both teams score at least 5 runs a game on single after single. Just last night I beat the Royals 8-6 with them having 19 hits, with only 3 of those hits being XBH.

I think, as with every roster/slider set, you have to tinker them to your playstyle. I prefer pitchers duels to happen more often, so toning down the hitting sliders for both teams is going to have to happen for myself. I’ve seen too many times where the opponent is hitting 95mph+ exit velo on 1-2 sliders away in the dirt, and can’t seem to put easy hitters away on filthy pitches.

Just an question/ opinion - baserunner speed seems to be too fast. These guys are getting doubles on hits just to the left or right of outfielders but the outfielders are getting to it in time.

Anyone else have a feeling about this?

Makes complete sense and I figured it would be need to be tweaked. I always do as none of the sliders I’ve ever downloaded for my game play style. However these are the closest ones I’ve ever had. It feels good and is great gameplay. Im seeing stuff that actually would happen in a game and it’s challenging there’s just a few things I’m like ok, something’s gotta change here. I was just wondering if others noticed things too. My biggest thing is the computer is getting hits on pitches they shouldn’t even be making contact with and I’m hitting meatballs down the pipe and it’s ending up being a pop up or weak grounder.

Also im convinced that Cycloniac is a Cubs fan cuz they’re impossible to beat. [emoji23][emoji23]jkjk.

So to summarize, where are we at with pitching stamina and hook sliders?

I have everyone set into bullpen setup (lowest rated under 20 stamina in LRP slots, long reliever in middle MRP slot with other relieves in MRP, no set up slot and a closer.)

If anyone needs assistance on that, let me know. I’ve done it a fair few times lately so it’s fresh in my memory lol

                        Thanks!

I tend to send down the actual long relievers/spot starters to AAA and call them up when a SP gets hurt since the MRP spots are really the high leverage bullpen spots now, and the LRP spots are low leverage/middle relief depending on game situation.

Sim sliders are staminas at 5, injuries at 6, and hook at 0.

I shared the breakdown DetroitStyle did a page or two ago, shoutout to him.

One of the first things I noticed was my hitting was a lot softer.

Hitting is set to 'Directional' and using the default rosters I just relied on swing timing without actual applying any stick direction. Lots of good hits with nice exit velocity.

Playing the same way with these rosters resulted in soft hit after soft hit (for me at least) . . . UNTIL I actually used stick direction. Once I started applying left stick my ball contact was much harder/faster.

I'm not sure why, but for me applying direction with the stick cured my soft hit epidemic.

How do you deal with this? I did it then put it back to the ai and they put it back to as it was before. So do you have to sort all the other teams rosters out all the time anything happens (injuries etc?). Seems like so much work!
