I'm going to start a 1 yr franchise real soon. Have you tried Pitch Speed at 4 ? If you can,can you quickly tell us some differences with Pitch Speed at 3,4,and 5 ? Also,I normally use Classiic(buttons) for assist baserunning, but in the past has cost me numerous games with my terrible baserunning. I think I'm going to auto - baserunning this year !! . With auto - baserunning,if I have a guy on 2nd...my next batter gets a single but my runner is automatically held at 3rd...would I still have the option to send that runner on 3rd home ? Basically, can we still command runners . I asked this in the Q & A thread but got no response. Thanks in advance !
I can try to help here. First off, unless it has changed this year, you cannot control auto baserunning in the situation you provided. You can control lead off and steals, but in the case of a single and u want to go through the stop sign at third, I do not believe you can do that. I personally have bounced around on auto/assist and I still am not 100% satisfied. On auto I have had bonehead decisions of slow guys tagging up on shallow popups, but I have also ran myself out of innings more than once with bad baserunning decisions.

As far as pitch speed goes, all it does is slow down how fast the pitch gets to you at the plate. One issue I had was that at 5 I was constantly behind every fastball because I was trying to pick up the offspeed pitch. By time I would realize it was in fact a fastball, I was almost always behind it. Even at default of 5 I was able to sit and wait on offspeed pitches, but constantly being behind the fastball lowered my AVG, power numbers, and literally meant the majority of my fastball base hits were opposite field.

I first moved down to 4 and saw my timing get slightly better, but still behind most and a lot of opposite field base hits on inside/mid pitches. Moved it down one more click to 3 and it just felt better for me. I am still behind on some fastballs and still get my share of opposite field base hits (which is actually ideal with good timing on outside pitches), but I feel like I now have the time to pickup on a fastball and get ahead of it if I am looking for it (say on a 2-0 count with a power guy at the plate). If you are hitting fine at 5 and you are not constantly behind fastballs, I would say to leave it. If your timing is constantly late though, then I would move it down a click, play a handful of games, and reassess. If still behind move it down again until you get to a spot you feel is fair. I do not think every pitch should be good timing, but if you cannot get ahead of a fastball ever, then you probably need a change.

For me the pitch speed was a big change. Not only could I get better timing and drive more pitches, but it also gave me more time to recognize what was coming at me and if decide what I wanted to do with it. I am not always correct and on the money timing wise, not even close, but my offensive numbers have picked up to a more acceptable level since making this change.

I noticed that last night. Ive been tapping x for offspeed and when i feel a need to bring the heat i try to hold it until just before it rumbles. Not even sure if holding it down makes the pitcher throw harder but it sure feels that way. Im brand spanking new to classic pitching with broadcast view so i dont know if that is what it does. But im soooo glad i made the jump this year from meter pitching with classic catcher 3 view. Im hooked!

Re: Armor & Sword's MLB The Show 15 Timed (Directional)/Classic Simulation Sliders

The first game I have played with these sliders and it was a beauty even if the final score may at first glance not look like it was. This was a hard fought battle to the end, and I mean right till my last couple of outs so this really was a big win even though it was only the first game of the season. I used meter pitching instead though I will probably move to classic after, and also have the ball fade on, I have just never been comfortable what so ever with not using it, but again as I go on and get into it again I may turn it off.

Tanaka really pitched a gem for the game and turned the ball over to the bullpen in the 8th with a 3-2 lead, he struck out 13 batters and only allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run. I was having a heck of a time in making contact on his pitches, he was just on all game long, lucky for me they did turn the ball over to the bullpen. Betances came in and got Edwin out for the first out but then walked Donaldson and Navvaro, Pillar hit a single that tied the game, Carpentercame in and Travis struck out, but Pompey walked to load the bases. Reyes followed that with a double scoring 2 and then Martin walked. At that point the bases were loaded Martin came in and got Jose in a 3-1 count, got a strike and then Jose unloaded a grandslam to wrap up the win!

In theory this is correct, but its not as black and white as that. It is correct that the longer you hold X the harder/more bite your pitches have and it does use up more stamina. The control part is hard to explain. Ill use Kyle Lohse as an example, since I pitch with him a lot. His two best pitches are the Sinker and the Slider. When I throw a Sinker with Lohse I find that im most accurate when I hold the button from 80-100%. If i just tap it the Sinker doesnt move much and always seems to ride up and in to the right. When I throw his Slider and hold X to 100% he always seems to hook it way left off the plate. When i just tap the Slider always seems to ride to the right. I find Lohse's sweet spot on the slider to be between 50-70% effort. This varies from pitch to pitch obviously, but ive pitched enough games with him to know this where he is most accurate. Although the length at which you hold X is technically effort, I also define it as a pitcher's release point. I find certain pitchers have different sweet spot release points/effort for certain pitches. Some may agree or disagree with this statement, but I see it to be true. Learning the "DNA" of your pitchers pitches is one more way to try and master classic pitching. Im not calling myself a master of classic pitching because im not, but i am very good at it because I know my starting 5 like the back of my hand.

I agree 100%. It is also one of the reasons I warm up my pitchers.

I have yet to be thrown out stealing a base. I am able to throw out the computer at the right percentage so I dont want to mess with the slider but it seems like whoever I have steal always gets a great jump.

Have been have a some very good games so far with the sliders, the first game I posted we made the huge comeback in the top of the 9th with one out, my next game against Baltimore I got smoked 10-4 and really didn't have a good game and the 4 runs were flattering because the cpu left their pitcher in with over 100 pitches in the 7th inning and he was tired so score 2 free runs then. And just finished my next game against the Rays, this was the first game I would say my pitching has really been keyed on, Dickey went 9 innings with 5 hits no walks and 6 strikeouts. I changed to Classic Pitching and have loved it, still using the ball fade though but I don't find it helps to much. This last game against Tampa I had a good variety of hits, 13 hits altogether that included 8 singles, 3 doubles and 2 homers from Jose and Smoak. Overall only 3 games in so small sample size but so far they feel great.

But if have it on it allows you to get a feel for his stuff that outing, how certain pitches are moving....etc.

I have now played 6 games and have only issued 2 non-intentional walks. I've even moved HUM consistency and control to 0

Great sliders A&S. Third year ona row using these. I'm about to start a test franchise and really test them out. Love them so far, thanks.

Thank you for responding and your great insite !!!! I'm going to try Pitch Speed at 3,then start my franchise soon. Thanks again !!!

                              1. To build confidence in certain pitches

                              Classic pitching is amazing.
It truly is amazing. I was one of those guys who got too good at zone/meter that I was playing on such a difficulty that I didnt feel like I was playing REAL baseball. I never tried classic pitching until June of last year and I was immediately hooked. It was like I was playing a completely different game. I will never go back to using meter or analog. Its kind of funny, actually, I used to say "I can't believe those guys who think pressing the X button for pitching is fun." Now I say, "I cant believe those guys who use meter think pitching is fun." Everyone has their preference, but as someone who has used most control layouts timing/classic is the way to go. Once again, great sliders A&S!! The only thing missing from making this the greatest game ive ever played is a patch that will be coming out in the very near future.

Absolutely. I was a meter/zone guy on 09 then made the switch on 11 and never looked back.

A good patch is needed as there are some nasty bugs and stability issues online that need to be cleaned up. Once that big patch hits I am sure this game becomes GOAT.
