Re: Armor & Sword's MLB The Show 15 Timed (Directional)/Classic Simulation Sliders

    These sliders are great.
Im through the first two games of my red sox franchise. First game i won 8-1 with 16 hits (Ortiz dominated. 3 hits from 4 ab's 1hr 4rbi's). Second game i lost 8-3 with 5 hits i think. Great variety in offense which was good. Thanks

-My pitchers gave up 0 walks over 3 games...not a single walk.
-The baserunning is glitchy, I think. I had a blunder in the 3rd game where a runner from 1st ran to 2nd, even though it was occupied. This killed a rally and cost me at least 1 run. I've seen a few of these.

The biggest concerns are the lack of HR's and HUM walks. I did hit 2 balls off of the wall that were nearly HR's, so maybe it will even out.
Try lowering HUM Pitch control and consistency 1 tick and see if that helps with the walks.

Hey Armor im jumping into your Hybrid set today (may even try QC for the first time) was wondering if im not feeling it with Catcher Zoom 3 is it safe to try other batting views? I will give Zoom 3 an honest shot first though. Im also going to give an honest go with other stuff too. Classic pitching, quick counts, auto fielding and Broadcast views are things ive never considered but im willing to try something new for a fresh, sim experience.

P.S.- Reading through your thread i just wanted to give you a shout for being such a class act here and in your Madden thread. I know you get the occasional post that is a head scratcher but its great to see you to take the time to give help and suggestions especially to others who play different than you. Ive seen other gurus not grasp that and be jerks when it wasnt appropriate and it honestly sucks to see that. Either way thank you very much for the continuous time and effort put in its appreciated man. Fins Up!

First off....thank you. I truly appreciate the kind words and it is my pleasure to help others try to enjoy the greatest game on the planet both in real life and on the virtual console. This years game is truly special. IMO even without the needed forth coming patch to clean up some wonky bugs (and they will be fixed make no mistake) it is so easy for me to declare MLB 15 The Show hands down the greatest sports game ever made.

          That's right. Ever.

As far as the batting view you use. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using any view you please. Whatever helps you have the best approach to the plate, immersion and feel is A. O.K.

With that being said here is my pitch for Catcher Zoom 3 and why I made the jump to it this season.

I had always played on the default catcher cam view on this title. I never had much of a problem hitting with it in the past. But while I was playing MLB 14 awaiting this years game I decided to mess around and try some different views out for both hitting, fielding etc. I wanted to refresh the game a little as I played MLB 14 from release till 3/31/15. I play this game pretty much almost every day of the year. So I stumbled upon the Catcher Zoom views (1,2,3) and worked with each one. I wanted to have the feeling and view of actually being in the box and being able to read pitches as if I am batting. IMO Catcher Zoom 3 gives that view better than any of the preset views available. With the new ball spins and breaks it is even more concise for me and I am reading pitches better than I ever have. It does take some getting used too. But I can promise you, if you were a long time baseball player you should feel right at home. It has taken the game to a new level for me in terms of realism and feel.

I am quite confident once you start playing classic pitching on QC's with auto fielding and manual throwing and I mean give it a real shot (30-40 games) you will be hooked. Totally hooked.

It is IMO the ultimate sim experience.

And the cool thing is this year online has been pretty awesome. I am playing in the Triple Crown League here at OS and fielding again and competing with other human players has been a joy. So I am getting my fix of both playing a more simulation approach with offline franchise/classic season and then getting my rush of playing with my stick skills vs other players.

The cool thing also about online this year is I can pitch classic and hot directional/timed. So my players ratings are driving my results first...and i am doing fine with it. I am pitching really well with classic online. I know I am playing guys who use zone and meter....but I have won plenty of games vs that approach with my own classic/timed approach.

          It's been really great.

What is meant by the numbers in parenthesis?
            Human Foul Frequency - 4 (+1)
            Human Solid Hits - 4 (+1)
            CPU Foul Frequency - 4 (+1)
            CPU Solid Hits - 4 (+1)
            Throwing Errors Outfield - 2 (-1)
            Fielder Run Speed - 4 (-1)

              Thank you
Those were the changes made. For example, Solid Hits was originally set at 3 and was moved up to 4, thus the (+1). Same thing goes for anything that is a -. Number was just moved down from where it originally was.

I never thought I would like Classic pitching this much but it is fun to use more than you think, especially with many of the settings you recommended. I think I may have finally moved away from Meter pitching.

                  Armor,
First off thanks again for these amazing sliders. I play AS quick counts and have been addicted to QC since last season Imo It makes sim baseball amazing. With these sliders I have seen every type of game possible. This years game is absolutely the best game ever made. I am around the same age as you and laughed about your pitch speed comment and how your old eyes and fingers need a little more time to adjust I agree with you on that lol. I was struggling with the pitch speed on 5 so I moved it to 3 like you and actually started hitting the ball better. My question is have you moved the pitch speed up yet and if so when did you know it was time to bump it up? We are in for a amazing season of baseball all so enjoys.

Hey Vince! So I have not moved it up as of yet. For all I know I may not. But my tell in when to move it is when I can wreck ace pitchers on every staff more than once. Its a feel thing. And also statistical. If my entire team just keeps pounding the ball....it may be time to up the gas.

I have never played The Show with a pitch speed higher than 5. And on 12 I had it at zero.

Glad your enjoying the game as much as I am!

If I end up grooving the ball too well I typically kick it back to default 5. But between 3-5 is where I usually find my sweet spot.
People having issues with EXBHs and HRs, I think pitch speed is a possible place to look at. I was finding myself struggling this year with some numbers at the plate, but when I would check timing after swings I was consistently late on every fastball. That made me have to almost anticipate the swing and put me waaayyy too far ahead of offspeed pitches. I too settled on 3 this year, after playing previous years games either on or even higher than the default of 5. I do not know why, but this year I had a much bigger issue with timing. By simply lowering this and allowing me to just get in better at bats, I saw my offensive numbers pick up to a point where I am pleased with what I am seeing number wise.

Might not work for everyone, but after catching up on the posts today I found it interesting Armor took a similar approach with pitch speed. Figured some other people may be overlooking this and just wanted to throw it out there as an alternative for people feeling a bit off. Check batting timing after each pitch and if you are consistently off, this may be a good place to start.

That seems to be a reasonable suggestion, but is no one else seeing this issue? I have now played four games and still have not issued a single walk. I play with the APIs suggestions on, which is exactly how I have played that game in the past with no problems.

Start holding down the pitch button a little more. Not only will you start giving up more walks, you'll also see more swings and misses and strikeouts.

You're probably like how I would just tap the X button. Would rarely miss my spots, issue walks or get them to swing and miss. Try that and let me know.

About to give up on this game. Low breaking balls are freaking impossible. Doesn't matter what pitch speed I'm on, there is no way to tell if they're out of the zone.

Go into hitting practice mode and mess around with different cameras or create a custom one until you find one that helps you out.
