Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders

Switched to Hall of Fame pitching 3 games ago and loving it. Only change I made was to bump CPU timing down a notch as I was seeing a few too many line shots on good pitches and didn't want to drop solid hits for the computer. I also play on veteran + hitting as I am not the greatest there so I go dynamic and always end up in this range as my sweet spot.

Last game I played was a classic with the Rockies visiting the Cubs (me) at Wrigley.

Arrieta pitched great going 8 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. I hung a curveball to Cargo in the 1st and he took it deep for a 2 run bomb and that is what I love about these sliders on HOF. You get punished for making a mistake to a good hitter.

Despite the great outing Arrieta left trailing 2-0 as De la Rosa was matching him giving up 5 hits, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts going into the 9th. In the top of the 9th Strop had one of his semi-frequent meltdowns and gave up 2 more, so 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the 9th. I was able to plate a run and chase De la Rosa with 2 straight hits. McGee came in and recorded an out after giving up another hit and a walk. I then strung 2 hits and another walk together, with Jason Heyward smacking a 2 RBI walk off single to right field and the Cubbies win 5-4. I don't think I have ever come back from a 4 run deficit in the 9th, definitely one of the most exciting finishes I have ever had with The Show.

    Great job on these sliders!

That sucks. Definitely makes coming out with your starters a bit more difficult.

On a side note - just tried three games now of HOF level for pitching, and I agree with the others: the results are much better! Strikeouts now get me jumping up off of the couch like I do when I score a goal in FIFA. When I screw up and see a pitch hang I pretty much know it's going out of the park before the guy even swings the bat. These settings are definitely getting close to being dialed-in at this point!

We had a group of about eight of us that played Hardball - we would create our own teams and do seasons, so much fun! I've at times thought about trying to bat from the pitcher's perspective but would probably be pretty hard in this game! We also played the crap out of Street Sports Baseball - not quite the game as Hardball, but we'd get into screaming matches over picking players before the game!

One question for ya - I pitch from the Broadcast cam and from time to time (maybe with lefties) I can't see the catcher's signals. Any of you ever have that happen?

Also - did they remove the ability to take warm-up pitches with your starting pitcher? I do full games (no quick counts,) and I have the option selected for 'warming up pitchers,' but when the game starts it immediately goes to the first batter without giving me a chance to warm-up my starter. I need that 10-pitch warm-up to feel him out so I know where the 'vibration point' is located in his wind-up.

I also used to play 4th and Inches and Hardball 3, 4 and 5 as well. I'll add that two of all time favs were TV Sports Football and Earl Weaver Baseball.

Having played sports games since about 1986 on my old commodore64 and later Amiga500 and various PCS and consoles, , I got to say that MLB 16 the show is the greatest sports game I have ever played. No question or doubt about it. it is that good.

Yeah I also obviously pitch from broadcast and when that happens I call my pitches. In the stretch you can see them but from the windup it may be blocked with some views. Just do you best.

Starter warm ups are gone. Just relievers warm up.

Armour, I promise this is the last question before I start my official Mets franchise and Yankee franchise. I simply aim for the location the catcher wants and press the button of the pitch he wants. I listen to him 100% of the time. With this simplistic way of pitching, do you think I should stay on AllStar pitching or move to HOF. Like you, I want to be challenged and feel like I have earned my victory, but also want it to be realistic and enjoyable. I expect the Mets rotation to be very good and dominate, as well as the Yankees bullpen. With my approach, is AllStar pitching the right level? Thanks for your help

You should give HOF a try regardless. I tend to follow what the catcher tells me with some exceptions. I played two games with the Red Sox last night: one with David Price pitching, the next with Joe Kelly pitching. You can pretty much figure how went Price's performance - pretty consistent, when he missed a pitch here and there it wasn't up in the zone (although I did get away with a couple.) With Kelly it was a different story. He left three key pitches up in the zone and all three got sent into the stands. From there the game went downhill - I went to the bullpen (which isn't great) and gave up a couple of more runs out of frustration. On All-Star I could probably get 8 or 9 KOs will Joe Kelly, but in that game I think I had only 2.

Enjoy the couple games I've played with these. HOF is definitely a good choice, especially with classic pitching. And I 100% pitch what the catcher calls for.

Last game I lost 6-3 to the Orioles with the Twins. My bullpen ruined it for me late. Each team had 7 hits, and two homeruns a piece

You guys have outdone yourself this year. These sliders are so enjoyable. I've played 3 games with them, all unique but SIM in every way. Great work guys! The HOF pitching made ALL the difference. Tip of the cap to you.

Man oh man! Did I just have the best opening day game I could ask for!

Decided to try HOF pitching over All-Star as the Ks on All-Star was too high for my liking.

To start off the game, Betts his a triple to the RF corner and scores on a groundball out to 2B. With an early lead 1-0, Price was dominating. Went 4 innings with no hits allowed, finished the 5th with just 1 hit allowed, then come the bottom of the 6th, I got careless.

Price started off allowing a couple of singles, walked a man to load the bases for Mike Napoli. Got ahead in the count 1-2, then he battled back to 3-2. Went to throw a 2 seam on the outside edge and left it over the plate and you can guess it, GRAND SLAM! Ugh, could not believe it.

4-1, I was afraid the day was done. Travis Shaw hits a home run very next inning to cut the lead to 2. I manage to grab 1 more run heading into to the 9th 4-3. The closer comes in and what happens next is crazy. I start the inning with a pop out from Travis Shaw but then Brock Holt gets something started with a single. Finally, coming up with 1 out, 4-3 in the Top of the 9th, Jackie Bradley Jr, the 9th batter, comes up. I get ahead 2-1.. then he fires an inside fastball just barely off the inside edge and Bradley smashes a line drive to RF for a 3 run HR!!! Kimbrel comes in and allows a leadoff single, only to get a ground ball double play and a strike out to seal the game.

Redsox win 6-4 and start the season 1-0!

Some Notes on the sliders (only 1 game but still wanted to give input)
                    • Everything felt great, such a damn good game!
                    • Pitching on HOF feels alot better, only thing is I could not get the CPU to chase at all.
                    • I allowed 10 hits, 4 runs, however, 4 runs are from a grand slam, that was the only score they got.
                    • I walked 3 batters I think with Price, the umpire was very demanding in the zone, could not get a close call.
                    • Cannot wait to see the results with a less talented pitcher and see if I get shelled, but right now HOF makes you WROK!

I take the catchers pitch suggestion 85-90% and shake him off sometimes. I do not ask for location thought.

Are you saying AllStar pitching is a bit easier this year? Is HOF the new Allstar when it comes to pitching? I don't shake off my catcher and always pitch to the location he asks for

He is just saying try it man. You don't need him to tell you how to play. Trust me, you just need to fire the game up, plug in the sliders and play away.

If you start getting hammered on HOF, simply dial it back down.

I think I'm going to stay on All-Star for right now since the most batters I've struck out in a game was 10 by Archer. I'm usually striking out 3 or 4 batters.
