Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders

Armor, just wanted to check in and let you know I am still loving your sliders. I have used them for every game of my Reds franchise, below is an update on my season. Great work on these, I am seeing everything. Close low scoring games, close high scoring games and blow outs.

    Cincinnati Reds
    26-21
    Team BA .257, HRS 60, SB 40
    Team ERA 3.67

    Player Stats
    Votto .277, 12 HR 30 RBI
    Bruce .242, 9 hrs 27 rbi
    Phillips .310, O HR, 15 RBI
    Duvall .285, 10 hr, 21 RBI
    Messoraco .221, 7 hr, 21 rbi
    Cozart .259, 6 hr, 18 rbi
    Suarez .282, 6 HR, 19 RBI
    Hamilton .310, 1 hr, 15 RBI, 35 SB!

    Bailey 3-3 4.44 era
    Iglasis 4-1, 2.10 ERA
    Finnegan 3-3, 4.40 ERA
    Lamb 2-0, 2.20 era
    Hoover 1-0, 4.50 era, 14 saves

As you can see everything is pretty realistic, and I am having a blast.

Just want to say great job on these Armor & Marino, I feel like you guys had a finished set locked down earlier than the past installments.

Do any of you guys keep solid hits at 5 (default)? I feel like I have way too many games where I have only 3-4 hits and tons of misses or infield/foul pop-ups with "good" timing.

My hitting seems fine with solid hits at 4. However, I may be increasing cpu solid hits to 5 and cpu timing to 6 (rest of my sliders are set exactly as posted on OP) as I'm thinking the cpu needs a bit more offence. Admittedly I've only played around 20 games between practice games and my franchise, but I still haven't seen the cpu scoring a bunch of runs in any game. I'm practically hoping to get blown out one of these games.

I hear you on the CPU offense. I have played most of my season on Hall of Fame difficulty for pitching. I'm still top 5-6 in ERA.

Thanks so much for this slider set. These have made the game so much more fun for me.

              Thanks again man.

I play on AllStar. I'm trying a few games with cpu power at 6 to see if that helps. I remember Armour suggesting this in a previous post if you want more challenge. So I'm playing with:

Cpu contact and power at 6, timing at 5 and solid hits at 4.

Some basic rules I follow seem to help.

I take more than I swing in 1-1 counts.

I shorten up and use the contact swing with 2 strikes unless I have a notorious free swinger or dead-pull power hitter.

On 2-1 or 3-1, I look to either lift and drive the ball (R-stick up) or to pull the ball (R-stick toward the batter. This allows me to lay off balls that are not in my target zone and increases the chance of drawing a walk by forcing me to lay off borderline pitches. Sometimes you get burned here, but more often than not, this practice pays off for me.

Just doing the above will likely reduce Ks and increase BA if practice consistently.

So I've been trying this, and I've upped HUM CON to 6. Still atrocious at hitting.

Can someone give me any advice and/or slider adjustments so I can actually start hitting the ball? I'm really bad... and I worry it'll affect the stats.

Is it because your timing is off? If so, raise Timing slider up a few notches and try again.

Are you getting just too many swing-and-miss even on pitches in the zone? Contact up another notch should help. If you want to be near MLB averages, about 20% of your swings should be misses in the zone, and around 50/50 outside the zone (The Show doesn't track O-Zone contact specifically, so you'll have to see on your Chased section how many Missed results you got...I believe you can do that in Batter Analysis), varying of course game to game and according to player ratings.

Is your timing good and you're not outright missing too many pitches but still getting bad results? Solid hits up a notch or two might help.

In order words, it depends on why you're struggling as to what sliders to increase.

Good call, timing sounds like the issue. Let me give this a try.

On a side note, the median for hits per game is 8.41 (https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/hits-per-game). With this set I'm getting 2-5 hits and so is the CPU. Will timing fix this?

Been following the hitting discussion here towards the end of the forum...I am getting tons of fouls tips, even when timing is supposedly good...should I be raising the contact slider a notch to avoid so many of these little dribblers in front of the plate and foul tips?

only 8 games into my season...but loving every game, with exception to the frustration of these dribblers...

Im over 40 games in.....there are times where i feel like I can use my tongue to press the button and drive the ball into the gap all day. Then there are days on end where no matter what I do, I can't make any solid contact. Same ups and downs with pitching...... I wouldnt even worry about anything at all until you have 30, 40, 50 games in. Seriously. It will come.
