Re: Mike Lowe MLB The Show '17 Sliders

Hey Mike, just wanted to let you know how much I'm loving these sliders. I've adjusted them just a little bit to my liking, but I'm having some great variety games.

I just finished a higher scoring game as the Astros against the Royals, I jumped to a 5-0 start on nothing but base hits in the first 3 innings. The Royals exploded for 6 runs in the 4th though, a solo HR and a 3 run HR included. The bullpen then came in for both sides soon and settled in and I was able to score one more run on a base hit in the 7th to tie it up. The game went extras and Beltran missed a no doubt homer barellyyyy foul in the bottom of the 10th and the game went on. Royals would score in the top of the 11th to make it 7-6, and in the bottom of the 11th I had 2 men on with 2 out and Gonzalez hit a deep fly ball that Cain barely tracked down to make the game saving catch over the shoulder and they won 7-6.

Royals had 7 runs on 12 hits, no extra base hits and 2 HRs. .323 team BABIP

I had 6 runs on 14 hits as the Astros, 4 doubles, 1 triple and no HRs. .368 team BABIP.

My previous games were pitchers duels with final scores of 2-1 and 4-1 where offenses struggled, but this particular game was a bunch of fun.

Are you using directional or zone hitting?

I had a 13 hit attack against the padres last night but poor clutch hitting meant I only scored 3 runs (including a solo shot in the 10th by Freeman). In my other two games I've seen doubles, triples, home runs and singles - it's been great.

However, I have only struck out twice (both Bartolo Colon) in 3 games on All Star. I wasn't striking out much on HoF, but last night, in my 13 hit game, I didn't swing and miss once...in fact, my BABIP was actually a v respectable .308, because all of the outs I made were made on balls in play! Struggling now with the idea of going back up to HoF, but potentially back to feeling like I'm never a threat at the plate, in order to get some swing and misses, vs All Star, but knowing that, if I'm patient, I'll basically never strikeout...
I play with Mike's sliders on AS. Only change is I play with pitch speeds at 10. Try playing at 10 you'll have more strikeouts.

If I remember correctly, this started from the beginning with Knight on earlier versions of the Show. I believe the reason was that the CPU would have the freedom to pick it's own Opening Day roster from the 40-man roster once you reach the end of Spring Training, so it wouldn't actually be the real Opening Day rosters once you got to the first game in your franchise.

The issue with that, and perhaps they haven't actually checked in recent years, is that the AI simply doesn't just add guys to the 40-man roster. Therefore, you'll have those guys sit in A-ball all year long.

Personally, I think it would help more folks to have the real 40-man rosters set so that waivers become in-play from the start, just like in real life. If they go as far as to get the rosters so accurate, it seems odd to leave such an important element out--almost like making the perfect outfield, but none of them are wearing gloves.

I feel like the OSFM base can only really be used effectively by people who do 30 team control and want to spend the time making every roster exact by the day. Thankfully others modify that base for users like me who mostly just want to play the game. There's a couple good 40 man versions based off of OSFM in the vault.

Correct. While all credit goes to the OSFM guys, I use a OSFM v1.0 that had the 40-man rosters added. I then added Beau Burrows and Joe Jimenez to the Tigers becuase, well, they are two of their top prospects! Jimenez has already been called up to MLB this year.

I agree with you. I believe the disclaimer Knight used when releasing his 25-man rosters each year was that you should use 30-team control and add the remaining people to the 40-man once Spring Training ended. Then you ended up with the correct Opening Day rosters and teams would progress through the season with waivers and calling up minor leaguers once Opening Day had passed if you added people back to the 40-man rosters.

Hey Mike, I know we have conversations going on in multiple threads but atleast they are the different topics.

Is it possible that Power had been turned down by the devs?

I've been following along with your sliders and was getting accurate results. But the last 6 games I've played I haven't seen a HR by either side. Really haven't seen too many deep fly balls either.

Is anyone else having similar results?

Definitely no update from the team on this (no patch), so just stick with it. I'm averaging slightly higher than .8 HRs per game now, and the AI is the same, now that I bumped them up to 2 for power.

I'm looking to give these sliders a go but only the CPU hitting side of it. Managed to tune some perfect AS sliders that have got me right in line with league average for offense but struggling to get any sort of challenge from the COU offense at AS level.

I'm hoping bumping up to HOF will finally give me a challenge! I use pulse pitching and I wanna feel like I work for my outs.

When you are swapping out sliders, are you making changes before the first pitch, in-game. Then after the game - before you sim through the rest of the day, to your next game - you go to sliders and adjust back to what your reccomended sliders for sim are?

Just want to make sure I'm doing this right to get the results everyone else is seeing in franchise mode.

I set them up as he has them for sim. Then when I play a game I change them to the game settings. After the game I load back up the sim sliders file.

I have the sliders always set for simming purposes. I sim the MLB games one by one so that they still update live in my 30-team franchise. The minor league games, I'm still not positive if those are simmed before or after my games this year (used to always be before), so I try and keep the sliders in-tact immediately before I sim MLB games and after I exit upon playing my game.

When I change them for gameplay is, yes, right before first pitch.
