Alright so I’ve played 15 games on classic pitching with 2 minor tweaks...I have cpu contact at 6 and cpu solid hits at 5. I am still never feeling truly challenged by the cpu offense....i have never given up more then 6 runs so far. I KNOW it’s still a super small sample size....but I legit start almost every game not giving up a hit through the first 3 innings. Would these sliders still work if I changed solid hits and contact back to OP, but bumped pitching up to HOF? Sorry for the annoying post, and once again I know the sample size is small. But Even when big hitters come to the plate with men on base, I don’t feel worried. Thanks again for all your work josh!

Side note- I do use manual fielding, not auto. I feel disconnected if I just pitch it have no control over the defense. Could this have any effect on the cpu offense?

Sorry about the delay, I've been sick and just now getting back into my normal groove.

Lots to digest in your post.

      1. I don't love the adjustments you made. I can kinda see the CPU contact at 6 (though they swing more) but the solid hits at 5 is shaky. They hit the ball too hard, so you see far fewer little hits dribble in....and those add up.

      2. The OP on HOF will work fine....it'll be tough for a bit though.

      3. Manual defense. If you're skilled, you can probably get to more balls than CPU guys. That said, I think as you turn off the fielding marker and throwing meters and so on, you should be OK.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Howdy Josh, just wanted to confirm you’re in for 2020? Will you be getting any of the early release editions?

Our play styles are extremely similar, I’ll be using your set from day 1 for sure.

Franchise stream was disappointing, but even just gameplay refinement is enough for me to go all in on 2020, as 19 was excellent fun.

          Oh Heck Yeah!

I pre-ordered the highest edition for MLB20 months ago...so I'll be firing up the game on March 13th (as of right now, I'm planning on taking a vacation day).

Sliders....I'm going to be perfectly honest, I would not be shocked if we wound-up using this exact same setup for 20. SDS is pretty consistent in how they tune the game from year to year and there are usually 3 things that are just a hair 'off' to me (which this setup addressed).

          - SP pitch counts are usually a hair too low.
          - line drive percentage is usually a hair too high
          - CPU hitters/pitchers are usually a hair too dumb

But...I will definitely be doing some baseline assessments on pure default.

Josh I can’t get answer on this, hoping you can answer.
Cpu vs Cpu games what difficulty should it play on ...or does it matter.
I’m planning on a custom roster for 20 ..any help would be appreciated.

Sorry man, I've seen your questions, but I honestly can't answer this first-hand.

That said, nomo did CPU v CPU sliders for years and always said that the difficulty did not matter. I can't personally vouch for that, but he was a very data-driven guy, so I'd tend to believe him.

Thanks a ton for responding...I have been asking many questions as of late..probably too many...but I’ve been finding great results in sliders as of late because of guys like you Warmwind Mike Lowe ect, and it has really made the game really enjoyable. Putting together a Fictional Hollywood team gettin things ready for 20. I won’t waste much time on difficulty..however HOF finding low scoring games..may drop to Allstar...to test
Thanks again...your Madden sliders were the only thing that kept me hanging on to that mess of a game this year lol..

                  Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders

Hey Josh, these sliders have saved the game for me. I've tried multiple times trying on HOF sliders, with total frustration. I'm using the Red Sox and should be one of the best teams in the East. On HOF I was always at the bottom. On yours I'm playing at a more realistic level with Bostons roster.

I'm using your latest OP, except user control at 5. My offense looks good, but my pitching is a bit too good. All visual aids are off, strike zones, and no ball trail or vibration. Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention additional cpu batting

                    Avg - .221
                    Slug% - .334
                    OB% - .258
                    OPS - .592

I don't know if I should lower HUM control to 4, or increase CPU contact to 6 or maybe power to 6?

                      Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders

                      Hey Orion!

It always makes me happy to hear that the work I share makes people's gaming more enjoyable so thank you!

CPU offense....this is where All Star can be a tad dicey....but you've got a nice sample size there...and yeah....unless you overhauled the BoSox pitching staff, they shouldn't really be doing THAT over a 45 game stretch.

That said, I always found the pitching to be a bit too simple with User Control at 5 (and it got easier the lower I went - barring a RNG-based meatball). I can induce swings and misses without paying much attention to the game if I'm using a pretty good pitcher.

I know how bass-ackwards this sounds, but bumping up User Control to 6 is the ONE thing that has actually improved their offense on a reasonably consistent basis in a way that didn't make it feel like a "boost". They approach ABs more intelligently (it's like they "know" the user pitcher is "good"). Also, when you "miss" pitches, they tend to be poorly thrown strikes, vs pitches well outside of the zone (especially on those 3-0 "get me over" pitches).

CPU Contact 6/User Control 5 actually was kinda weird. They swung at "everything" which often lead to very quick outs (i.e. the same as 5/5 but with more weakly hit balls than Ks). Evening them up at 6 might be an option and was one I supported for a while, but ultimately shot down because it lead to a lot of high scoring games. I never considered boosting power to be a necessity in terms of batted ball distance...but it could be interesting to see if it would change their approach any (i.e. will they use fewer power swings?). I can't advocate that right now, but I can look into it a bit as I gear-up for 20.

All that said, my number 1 recommendation is to raise User Pitch Control to 6. Your pitchers are probably all on hot streaks right now, so you may not see the benefits right away. But as you face better lineups, you should start to see the difference.

Thanks for the response Josh. I'll try control at 6. I used it at 6 for about 15 games though couldn't tell you exactly what impact it had. My starters have been lights out as they're all on hot streaks racking up gaudy stats, especially K's. The staff has a WHIP of 1.04!

My biggest concern obviously is the lack of cpu runs and slugging.
