Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
I've been quiet here lately; but for a reason....I've been scuffling a lot with the OP sliders here recently. As much as I like the feel - it's become abundantly clear to me that the higher contact value is not going to work (at least for me). For example, my team batting average (which had already been a bit high due to having several high contact rating hitters) is now at .281 on the year (we just hit July on the calendar) and we're starting to hit some crazy HR numbers too (it's similar on the pitching side- which doesn't jive with the ratings of my pitching staff). It isn't just a streak either as I'm seeing it in my other franchises. While my games are still competitive, I feel that there's a pretty strong bias with the contact values at 6 (way more than I expected)...it isn't obvious at first, but it definitely builds over time.
After trying out a few adjustments to the OP to try to compensate (even trying HOF), it became clear to me that the best adjustment is to revert the slider causing the issues. I'm going to reign things back in closer to default (again...).
I'm looking for a couple of things:
1. Less offensive consistency. When we play The Show, we often tend to look at games with 5 or 6 hits with disdain (especially for CPU offenses getting that "not threatening enough" moniker). The problem I saw with Contact at 6 is that it swung things WAY too far the other way.
2. We need an uptick in swings/misses. This is my biggest issue. If I swung at a pitch in the zone with good timing, it was getting hit (and often, hit hard). Even great contact hitters 'swing through pitches' and I just wasn't seeing enough of that (particularly on the user hitting side).
The updated set is now on the OP, but in short, I am changing both the contact and pitch control sliders back to default (also waffling back to 4 on the two fielding sliders). I've had some very interesting variety (including a 17-4 loss in my last game....by far the worst I've had all season).
Now, I know a lot of you are enjoying the current OP (which is archived on the OP) or your own brew - if it's working for you, stick with it (don't change just because I am). I keep what I am using up-to-date on the OP as a baseline (and it makes things easier if people ask what I use when I'm streaming).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I went back to 5 control and contact also. I was having the opposite effect. Hitting and pitching was terrible. I kept feeling like no matter the count, I couldnt get anything on hits. With pitching, it felt like if I got 2 strikes my control went away and after 2 innings I just didnt have any control. So I am back to OP as wellReally wish sports games played to ratings!

The swing and miss issue is the big problem; it affects everything from strikeouts to pitch count and everything in between. It happens so seldom regardless of what sliders you mess with, it’s really just something the developers need to fix. I’m not saying it to complain, I’m saying that because the cpu will miss but the user rarely can. The only possible solution may be to drop timing to 0, and I don’t even think that will help much.

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
I think I'm going to keep mine as the last set...haven't really been seeing what you were saying at this point in my season (late May). The only thing I guess is happening is I'm seeing more doubles...as Blackmon and Murphy lead the NL and it's not really that close. But the only guy hitting HR's is Trevor Story. Arenado has been out basically the entire season thusfar.
I'm 2 games over .500, playing a lot of good close games...averaging about 7 hits per game, CPU about the same.
Just had the best comeback ever. Down 4-1 going into the 9th, went F9, Single, Single, K, RBI Double, 3R HR to go up 5-4. Ian Desmond, who started the year 0-29, has had 2 game winning hits in a row and is up to .260 batting average. What a joy this game is.Teams:

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
How many batters do u guys average to sit down on strikes per game ? After 100 games played I noticed I strike out anywhere between 5 and 10 batters per game . I'm in the top 5 in strikeouts and era after 100 games . With the pitching rotation I got I don't think I should be striking out that many . I'm using the set as listed and seems it doesn't matter who I'm pitching with , I even put my pitcher control on default 5 and CPU contact on 6 thinking this might help but I still strike batters out a bit too often .

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
Regular , I think I'll move the pitching up to HOF for 10 games or so and see how that goes . The thing is it's not like I'm dominating and winning all games , I'm losing more than winning . I walk batters , I give up hits but I just strike out too many with that . 1 game I had today I gave up 5 runs on 7 hits and walked 4 but also sat down 8 on strikes . The funniest thing is half the time when they strike out it's by a pitch I didn't even have control over [emoji38] for example , I'll aim a fastball down and away to the left or right but it ends up going the complete opposite way and they swing n miss for strike 3 . I think that's the most frustrating thing overall for me , I place a pitch in a certain spot but it goes the complete opposite way and I'm rewarded for it with a swing and miss .

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
Don't worry about the rankings (I personally think the 'sim stats' are a bit off). Focus on the numbers you're getting...
You should be averaging around 7-10 strikeouts per 9 innings if you're trying to mimic today's game. The major league average right now is about 8.9 K/9.
If that seems high....well, it IS....it's historically high, but it has been the trend. If you're in that ballpark and everything else seems good...I wouldn't fret too much about it from a 'numbers' standpoint.
Also, you can have a mediocre pitching staff, but if they are predominantly guys with high K/9 ratings, they will still strike out a lot of guys. You can have a great pitching staff with predominantly low K/9 ratings and I can tell you, that won't strike out as many guys. Some of my worst pitchers (based on overall rating) have some of my team's highest K/9 ratings (and consequently, the best strikeout stats).
You're welcome to make the move to HOF....I may follow suit at some stage..but if that's the ONLY reason you're thinking about doing so....I'd pause and really look at the numbers.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
Thanks for this , it puts me at ease and helps cus it's like I said , I'm not dominating the mound and just killing it . 102 games played and my record is 48 -54 , I'm getting good variety in games that I'm very satisfied with overall . From what u say it looks like I'm in the right neighborhood with the strike outs per 9 , so I'll stick with the pitching on all star to see how everything looks at the end of the 1st season .

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
I had the same thing happen to me. The CPU has the bases loaded with nobody out and they hit a grounder to 1st. I went home with it (which should have. Even a mistake cause it should have been too late) but the runner didn’t slide and he was out. I felt like I cheated the CPU with that. But really they did that to themselves lolFollow me on Twitch
