Any early feedback about ‘23?

Nope other than I prob know graphic wise it will probably be legit, and they'll add some nice cosmetic touches.

That's all very exciting, but at my core, I care WAY MORE about the hitting mechanic, gameplay and variable outcomes than I do how the game looks on the screen (and 20 looks darn good on a PS5).

I'll probably fail, but everything tells me to not buy it......this series peaked in 20 (for what I want out of a baseball game).....maybe I'll be wrong.....time will tell.

You’re right man. 20 is just amazing as far as gameplay. The last 2 versions left me wanting more. I’m actually surprised how far a step back the gameplay is compared to 20 especially the hitting.

I gave implicit instructions to both my wife and son “do not purchase MLB 23”

They will comply!!!

We are head deep into Yankees Year 7, a brand new single season Statis-Pro 1980’s fantasy draft Yankees season as well as our “Captain” series (single season play-throughs of 1995,1996,1997,1998,1999,2000,2001,2002,2003,2004, 2005,2006,2007,2008,2009).

If I could pull two things from 22 it would be:

OF defensive play
New ticker

That’s it. Everything else on 20 for my taste and playing style is superior.

SDS got greedy by moving to Xbox, whether it was the MLB’s choice or not, and then the move to switch just absolutely ruined this game. This game was made for the PS hardware, when they changed that, they changed the entire core of the gameplay IMO.

I am 99.9% sure MLB forced the multi platform move.

And I agree. The core engine….something fundamentally changed under the hood with RNG results in regards to hitting.

Also the sweet sound of perfect/perfect in 20 is unmatched.

On 21 it was awful

On 22 it was a lot better but still not as beautiful as 20’s sounds off the bat.

22 had some very positive things. Crowd audio and crowd swells were greatly improved of course as mentioned before the OF defense is beautiful and the new ticker is outstanding.

It is not a bad game by any stretch. It just got bland unfortunately in terms of the range of outcomes with hitting. I played well over 100 hours of franchise and it became apparent I had seen it all and the variety simply was not there. Couple that with a regression in presentation in terms of camera angles, cut scenes, OSD’s, god awful repetitive PBP and color….and overall presentation felt rushed for my taste. Even replays and HR cameras went backwards from 20.

Hey I hope those that pick up MLB23 enjoy the heck out of it.

I will just keep playing what I love.

22 is playable, 23 and beyond will be too, but for all the reasons already mentioned, none will ever give me the feeling I get when playing 20.

I refuse to have "shiny new toy" syndrome this year.

For all those that do get it....I hope you easily find the slider balance you are looking for and enjoy the hell out of.

Likely a dumb question, but why can’t they simply bring the ‘20 hitting engine back for ‘23? I’m assuming it’s not as simple as that.
