97-100 MPH now really looks like it.

It is not easy either….pitch speeds are purely user preference. And honestly a great way to crank up the difficulty in hitting without touching anything else.

It’s not for everyone and I thought my 53 year old eyes would not handle it….but so far so good….time will tell if I dial it down a click or two.

But it certainly feels really good to fear Ace pitchers.

It also IMO feels more like how it was on the PS3 with MLB 11 and 12 at default pitch speeds on those 2 respective games with pitch speeds cranked on 20.

In Armour I trust. I’ll give it a shot. I’m still in the process of setting up 26-man rosters, lineups and rotations for all 30 teams before I’m able to start my franchises with the new ‘23 rosters.

Then I’ll play a spring training game or two to see if I can handle it. But I can still be late on the high heat with the pitch speed sliders at where they are now

We’re you consistently way ahead of 97-100 mph with the sliders at 6/5? I can’t say that I am. But I’m always up for a challenge so that I feel that I earned my hits. But I might try 8/8 first. I think that will give me a hard enough time!

      Good luck!!

Holy mother!!! It’s like a new game.

I think I finally have embraced this. I am literally blown away at how much more realistic it is.

We are going with this in Year 7 and all my other franchises as it really feels great and challenging.

        I love it.

For those on the fence about max speeds......

It's incredibly more difficult using the fish eye view.

Personally, I think retro or MLB 15 hitting view works better IF maxing out pitch speeds.

Isn’t that the whole point of max pitch speeds?

First 3 games with the new 23 rosters and pitch speeds at 10. 7-1, 6-0 and 6-1. All losses . Only 4 hits in each of the 3 games. Each game felt exactly the same. Going to need more time to adjust to the pitch speed change. Not sure how I fell about it yet but I’m clearly not seeing the ball well

There is an adjustment period no doubt and hey….if you don’t like it just do you. I have always said the pitch speed slider is a personal preference setting.

If 10/10 is not working try 7/7 or 8/8 see where your sweet spot is.

If it is 6/5 like we have been rolling forever then so be it.

I am giving it a real shot and a sample size and will report back.

Decided to play as the Padres within the same Yankees franchise with the 2023 set. Since I do 30 team control I switched to them.

13 hits and an 8-5 win with pitch speeds at 10. Now that Padres team has some hitters on it so I am not getting my hopes up but I felt like I was getting my timing down. Felt real good to swing and miss at pitches I was not looking for and even better to punish mistakes.

I use a custom retro cam, myself. Retro cam is the most scale-to-size, and thus works best when maxing pitch speeds out. When you use fish-eye, everything feels so much further away, so the pitch speeds are naturally faster.

Ex.: max speeds on fish-eye will seem faster than max on retro.

My pitch speed observations from my 59 year-old eyes

Started a spring training game with my Phillies with pitch speeds at 8/8. Tigers started Boyd whose fastball tops out at 92 mph. I hit ok, scored 4 runs with hits primarily off field, but did pull some fastballs. Then they brought in a guy who topped out at 96. Was usually pretty late on the high heat, but I was able to pull a 94 mph heater to right-centre for a homer with Harper

Then they brought in n a guy who threw 97, so I upped speeds to 10/10 to see what I could do. Yikes! I couldn’t catch up to the heater and if I did it was way late. I tried it for 2 innings and it seemed too much for me. My issue was that every pitch seemed to be the same speed so I ended up swinging or check swinging on every pitch.

So back down to 8/8. Had a bit more success against a 96 mph pitcher, but still seemed to have an issue differentiating between fastballs and off speed pitches. So I tried 8/7, and that seemed to work really well. I was able to determine fastball vs off speed pitches and was able to determine strikes and balls a lot better. It looks like I need to keep the off speed slider one lower than the fastball slider.

I’m going to test 8/7 for another few spring training games, but it looks like that might be my sweet spot

After several more spring training games I think I can handle 9/9. Can’t quite match you - yet!!

At 9/9 I REALLY have to pay attention. I can still pull mid 90’s fastballs if I’m sitting on it. Otherwise I tend to hit the direction the pitch is located (outside pitch hit off field). This seems very realistic. My last at bat the pitcher hung a curve and BOOM, Harper pulled it and blasted a 438 foot bomb

Ready to start my franchise. Play ball!!

Higher pitch speeds look incredibly realistic and play really well (as long as you are excited about focusing on every pitch, thinking through AB's and sitting heater and adjusting to off-speed).

I am thrilled with how it plays.

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider

Well after moving up to 9/9, I was ready to start my Phillies franchise. Then I got a little cocky (anything Armour can do, hopefully I can do too) and decided to move up to 10/10

Opening day was against Alcantara of the Marlins (93 rated with fastball rating of 97). He consistently threw his fastballs between 97-100 with a 95 mph sinker. Yikes!! I didn’t have a chance. It was either I struck out or walked for the first 3 innings. Schwarber was way late on a fastball and hit a grounder that bounced off the 3rd base bag for a double. I started hitting some singles (some perfect timing) in the 6th when he began to tire. I ended up scoring 4 runs in the 7th through singles, walks, an error and a double. They brought in a reliever who also threw 95+ and I was back to striking out, chasing bad pitches and swinging at almost every pitch. To me it didn’t seem realistic.

So I started the game again and went back to 9/9. It just felt better for me, hell, it almost seemed slow after trying 10/10. I was able to pull fastballs when I was sitting on them (also still was late quite a bit and struck out chasing them at a reasonable rate) and hit a few extra base hits and even a homer in the first 4 innings. It just felt better and more realistic for my 59 year old eyes

But you are right - upping my pitch speed from 6/5 to 9/9 seems way more realistic and far more challenging. I certainly need to be focused and on the edge of my seat if I want to hit a fastball and to be able to adjust to sliders and off speed pitches. Just like real life baseball!

Thanks to those who suggested upping pitch speeds. It certainly does feel even more realistic than before and makes the game even more enjoyable for me. I always want to feel that I earned my hits and victories an moving to 9/9 certainly does that

Looking forward to officially starting my Phillies franchise tomorrow and setting up my Yankees franchise as well

I am on this train also and feel just like you in that it is so much more realistic at higher pitch speeds. I have been going 10/10. As the Yankees, 5 games now and I have not managed more than 1 run per game and 4 hits or less in those 5 games. I switched to the Padres for 2 games and pounded out 16 runs and 26 hits in those 2 games. I am going to keep going as I like the feel and focus it takes to hit this way.

I feel like it is in my head now that I can not hit with the Yanks but I am going to keep plugging along until Boston Rob releases his final set this weekend and hopefully everything evens out. Good luck everyone
